The condition of our forum

Hope everyone is well,

This is more of a plea to our mods then anything else. We all have issues with CP currently, system showcase isn't working correctly, iTrader feedback has been down for awhile, I don't know about you guys but when I click someone?s name the user page doesn't display correctly for me. All of these issues are frustrating, and I know I'm not the only one that feels like this.

This is what I would like to see happen - mods please feel free to chime in -and let all of us know what is possible. I'm SURE someone here has the knowledge and skills to fix (at least some?) of these issues, and if we have to bring on some outside help, so be it. I would be glad to contribute money to pay to have our forum repaired, and I know a lot of us would most likely be willing to contribute to a fund to repair as well. If we all just pitch in what we can, I'm sure we can get the funds to fix this place up, if it's that easy.

What does everyone else think? A lot of us are on here every day, and Polk does provide this as a free service to us, but maybe it?s time for us to pitch in a bit and do our part. We could have a Paypal account (with somebody we trust, don't trust me!) with hopefully a set goal that will get this place back into shape.

I'm willing to help, are you?

-Cody

I would be willing to help, but I doubt they would ask or allow it.

That said, overall this is a very good forum and the lack of itrader or showcase doesn't deter me in the least.

Anyone who has ever worked for a big corporation knows that upgrading software costs a ton of coin and is usually the last thing on their mind. Instead they go for the bandaid approach and well....it is what it is. I feel Polk maybe in need of some newer software but the bottom line is holding some of those decisions back. Also keep in mind that ownership has changed hands again, and with that comes a new set of standards for margins. Give them time, they'll work it out.

Wow, it went from would you help to a gripe fest in no time flat.

Guys, if you are that unhappy there are plenty of other places to go. itrader and a showcase area are not big deals. By now yu should know who is good to deal with and who is not. And if you really want to Showcase your system, create your own website.

These issues have been addressed with Patrick, even by me directly. It's not an upgrade issue, although it's available and I assure you that outside help will not be requested, asked for nor is it needed. This is a very small part of Patrick's work and his main priorities lie elsewhere. He knows about the issues but needs some one on one time to get it fixed. That will happen when it happens.

This is a fine idea Cody but you have to sit back and chill for now. We'll continue to remind Patrick like an ex-girlfriend who won't go away for now....then we'll step it up to the pregnant ex-girlfriend who won't go away.

EDIT: I had Justin on my mind for some reason....I must be dreaming of those days again.

    Mark,

Thanks for dropping in, I'm sure Patrick is a very busy man, and I understand. I'm NOT here to gripe about our issues, there fairly small, but was trying to come up with some way to help, as I know me, and many other members would be willing to do what we can do to clean this place up. Lets all hope it happens sooner rather then later, but all we can do is wait. Hopefully Patrick will see this thread and put it on his summer honey-do list! Thanks for your input.

I think it's silly that we can't go back and edit posts--indefinitely; and change thread titles. I'm a member of countless forums--this is the only one that does that.

You can't go back and update pictures, mark your item as "sold" or edit when necessary--it's a level of micromanagement that is rediculous IMO. I don't see a single "benefit" to it.

Agreed. It was done because some idiots would type stuff to piss someone off, then edit it because they didn't want the mods to see it.

I'd say if you catch someone doing that, just ban them and don't worry about it again.

I am fine with the forum as is. The system showcase and feedcack are luxuries and not necessities. If they did away with either, this forum would survive as is. We all know who is reputable and not; inevitably every for sale thread has positive feedback within the thread these days of people vouching for the seller and/or buyer. Basically, I think this place has done an OK job of policing itself and the less Patrick has to do and the less time Polk has to spend truly moderating ensures that this forum will be around for quite some time.

Well said Shawn. I can agree with your view, but I think if we do have these luxuries they should work, if they we're removed completly we wouldn't have a gripe. I just tend to think that the forum should receive some much needed attention before the LSiM line is released, I'm sure we're going to a step up in traffic, hopefully good traffic, and a well polished forum may steer a few more people to Polk. We could go on and on, but I've gotten the response I needed to see, its just a wait and see game from here.

Considering we don't pay for membership means we don't really have a gripe.

The forum isn't broken to items above and beyond the forum are.

And your gonna honestly tell me it is because we may increase in traffic that you are worried about this?

"necro-editing" is like trying to 'unsay' something. You want to express a new or different viewpoint - post a followup. Otherwise, limitless editing is like 'spin doctoring'.

    *sigh*

I'm not 'worried' about it, but as I stated above, if these are services that are offered on the forum, they should work. Looks kind of jank to ME that we have a few other things offered here, besides the forum, that don't work. I thought this was a positive thread, I was trying to offer up the help of the members in any way that we could, if it was a money issue, I'm willing to donate to the cause, if its a labor issue, lets find someone that we can trust to fix it, thats all I was trying to do. I can't belive I'm being half-blasted for offering some ideas to help our community here.

Think of it this way, those two areas are two blights on our forum, its kind of like if you lived in a neighborhood and your two direct neighbors never mowed, or took any care of their property, would you fuss about that? I know I would.

Guys, chill. Polk is not in business to provide us a forum. They do it even though at times they do NOT want to do it. Be advised that we are still lucky to still have a forum, period. That said, you figure the rest out. Have a good day, gentlemen

    I hate threads like these.

And why do they always come from people who have barely been here a year?

You know how long this forum has been around? 1997 I think was the first time I signed up for any kind of account here. You think it sucks now? Go to the Wayback Machine and take a look at it then. Then come back here and realize how good you have it.

Yea! Back in our day we didn't have the multi-quote feature...we had to do that manually!

Dang kids with their youtube embedding capabilities.

I remember the good ol' days, when the car audio section was the 'dark side' of the forum. No really, it was gray/black.

I like CP site a lot I spend more time on that than any other site , I dont care if sometimes it wont load or view something , I even get error statements from internett explorer and ebay (so a polk hiccup is nothing), I just enjoy the site and you upgrading software would be a waste I would rather see that coin go into polks R&D to make the fine audio products we know them for .
Your customer service is great , your support is great , recently I had problems with some speaker parts the person went out of their way to go pull parts and make sure they were working before they sent them , this is for $5 parts , now I am willing to bet many other companies would not go the extra mile . The only thing I could see is having enough moderators (like Cody) just to keep advertisments and abusive folks out , as said "polk is not a forumn company its a speaker company if you dont like tune out "
POLK is a awesome company there are many companies out there who need a lessen from them , I hope polk stays around for a LONG time , I look forward to sharing polk stuff with my kids ,
    sorry if I vented/rambled on .

I hear ya ... The forums in great shape and spammers get kicked to the curb when they try post . I dont see whats so frustrating about itrader not working ? If theres a good seller here then the guys will let you know it when they bump a thread . Polk is awsome for giving us a free forum and you should be humble instead of patronizing the polks name by offering money or bringing outside help ?
