Keep them for home theater and amp them like cfrizz said.

Get some maggies or other polks or Infinity Kappas (Denny :-)..) for your 2 channel listening. That's kind of what I've done over the years. I just aquired a CS1000p from Denny Sat.. Great guy!.

I will hope to always have this RT5000 system as my flagship theater system.

I still need the systems' surrounds but for now I have Rosewood RT55's from another member.(Stryker I think) to put in place now. Then the two Klipsh 12" subs. They are end tables on each side of that couch for now.

It doesn't get much better than the RT5000.

    Enjoy that trip!
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

The urge to upgrade helps keep the audio industry afloat. Thats why you see the slick color photographs in their ads and the constant change in appearance. Reading on forums like this will also influence you to upgrade. Since your preference is to rock the house and rattle the windows you probably aren't interested in fine music reproduction (although your system is capable of that) you might look for another amplifier. Either a 3 channel or 5 channel of around 150-250 watts. You'd hear more of a difference than if you traded speakers.
The increased power will reduce or eliminate clipping and make your speakers sound more dynamic with more punch and clarity.
If you continue to "rock the house" you will soon have to buy new speakers or repair the ones you have.....to say nothing of lowering your ability to hear.

One thing to consider in your decision, while as nice as they are, and I have owned them, because of their age, when something goes south parts are going to be hard to come by. Fully working, they have worth on the used market, not working....well, you know the story.
If I was you, I'd sell them while the value is still there for a working set and look into something thats not necessarily smaller, but more furniture quality that the wife would like. Say something like Salk's, HT3's with a nice finish. Most women scoul at the older black boxes we call speakers, they like stuff that looks modern, not dated, like it's a piece of furniture.

I just recently bought two SRT centers. One needed a driver, the other needed a new tweeter, Polk had both in stock. I can't believe there would not be parts for these speakers. If you intend on keeping them, call Polk and stock up on some drivers and tweets. You would be good to go for years.

Well if something finally goes on them, then he can get new speakers. But to get rid of them now, just because something might go & parts might not exist, doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Beautiful system, and while you might get something else that sounds different, that doesn't necessarily mean it will sound better. Put that money that is burning a hole in your pocket into buying music & movies to show off your system. That center channel has me drooling!

And yes they are vintage, but that certainly isn't a bad thing. So are my speakers & with them properly powered they sound even better now then they did when I bought them 20 years ago.

If you haven't put an amp on them then get a 5 channel amp & see them really come alive.

i was thinking emotiva xpa-5 amp and umc-1 processor.quite frankly ive never heard of this brand but they were recommened by a friend.any thoughts ?

It's very good entry level gear that is solid and reasonably priced for brand new. As is Outlaw Audio.

If you want to get even more bang for your buck, you can check out Audiogon for brands like Rotel, Parasound, Sunfire, B & K, Nad, Adcom.

Just read as much as you can about the gear that you are interested in & go for it.

When were the RT3000ps originally released? The oldest review I can find on them is from 1998.

I always thought the SRT system was released before the RT5000 system?

I think Polk released the SRT in 1995 or so.

I have a RT5000 system and in the CS1000p manual it refers to the SRT. Here's what it says:

    "FEATURES:
The CS1000p center channel was designed to
set a new standard of center channel performance
    for today's demanding digital surround
systems. When the CS1000p is used in conjunction
    with the Polk RT3000p powered
tower front channel speakers and Polk
    f/x1000 Dipole/Bipole Surround loudspeakers,
you'll have a complete home theater system
    that offers performance surpassed only
    by Polk's Signature Reference Theater
    (SRT) system.

    RT5000 COMPLETE HOME THEATER
    PACKAGE OPTION
For the highest possible home theater performance,
    we strongly recommend using the
CS1000p in conjunction with the Polk
RT3000p front and f/x1000 surround loudspeakers.
    This total, integrated system is
called the RT5000. All the drivers and tweeters
in this system are identical, ensuring
perfect channel to channel timbre matching
for absolutely seamless imaging as well as
    extremely high definition and extraordinary
    dynamic range."

Did they release the CS1000p after the RT3000p or did the entire RT5000 system come after the SRT?
