Funny you mention that, I'll be driving to Colorado July 5th for a huge concert/festival I'll be working sound at. We'll be in Olathe. We are driving a 15 passenger van out there so if they don't sell by then, and if we have room which I doubt there will be, they are yours!

Wow, what a coincidence. But, even if you did have the room in the van, there's no way I could make it to Olathe during that week -- work conflict.

    Have you tried Craigslist?

Ahh bummer, I would have loved to have given them to a Polkie who would know what to do with them.

I have, I just posted an ad. They aren't the most popular speakers in the world due to their size.

LOL...I doubt they would have lasted 2 hours in the Indianapolis CL.... there are a couple flippers out there that woulda hopped on the SDA train.....

Personally after hearing NooshinJohns rig w/ SDA fronts, LSi 15 surrounds it gives me thoughts for HT later on....

Polk stopped making them because people stopped caring about great audio and they were hard to sell in a store when they are not setup correctly. You should understand that since you can't set them up correctly without ticking the wife off.

According to Matthew himself, it was a little bit of everything mentioned so far in this thread. SDA technology lives on in the Surround Bar products.

Have you seen my livingroom?!?! LOL No approval necessary. I do talk to my neighbors about my loud music though, so I've given them ample chances to complain. They always say "no, no, you're fine". If they do have a problem, they can't say I didn't try...

You are correct the shear size was one factor, not the only factor. Everyone who has stated why traditional SDA's are no longer in favor are correct. I wasn't trying to prove anyone right or wrong........just putting the facts out there straight from the horses mouth.

The Surround bars are smaller and use dsp technology vs. passive technology to accomplish about the same thing. Passive SDA's are still the best overall IMO. At PF 2009 when Matt Polk was visiting with us, he expressed how someday he'd like to marry the Passive approach with some of the DSP programming he had come up with. Essentially what I would call a more modern day version of the SRT, which used passive and electronic technology.

Perhaps a little less costly and smaller foot print than the balls to the wall statement piece the SRT was.

Mods please label this thread as sold.

I spent the evening clearing out my daughters closet so I can store them there to get them out of the wife's sight, so, they will remain mine. The irony is I got an email from a very interested buyer just as I finished storing them.

My ads should come with a disclaimer: "Act fast or seller may decide to keep them" lol, sorry to be such a bone head around here.

You're making the right choice. You have a pair of speakers that you are very happy with, and also a pair that you have sweat equity in. Making a rash move and selling them now because the wife thinks they're too big and the neighbor doesn't like hearing them when you plan on moving to a new house soon may well be a decision that you will grow to regret. When you're in your own house, chances are your neighbors will not be as big of an issue compared to an attached condo, and you may just end up with a house with a room that's much more fitting to these speakers. If not, you can always sell them later on.

I hope you understand why many people have grown to be upset by you. I think there are two reasons:

    1) Most of the regulars on here are big admirers of these old speakers, and enjoy helping others get the most out of them, and thus are willing to spend our time answering questions and giving advice. When we spend that time helping someone, quite successfully I might add, only to find out that you're going to immediately turn around and sell the speakers, it makes us feel like we've completely wasted our time answering your questions and helping you out. Especially when the reason is along the lines of, "my wife thinks they're too big." Sorry, were they smaller before we started helping you mod them???

    2) Your impatience and rash, impulse decision making is tiresome. People are trying to give you advice on how to build a system slowly and methodically, and you keep turning around and changing your mind about decisions before doing anywhere close to adequate research. It makes it very hard to give you advice, and becomes annoying to try and help you when you are changing your mind about big decisions so rapidly. You've already proven to yourself that break-in matters, so you should commit yourself to taking weeks to evaluate every decision you need to make in your system, not hours. You seem to be putting way too much pressure on yourself to build your ultimate system today, right now. This is not a wise way to pursue this hobby.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.
