gdb, I hope you don't live anywhere near me, there's obviously something wrong with the water there.

A matter of opinion I suppose,
BFD, any buttcrack with a bandsaw and some bar clamps can do that:tongue:
Or CNC rig.Otherwise it is a very labour intensive way to contruct an enclosure. If the builder has the tools, skills and patience to do it they will be rewarded with an attractive low resonate box.

Fred has posted some MDF enclosure photos (in this thread and others) and I have posted some of my Birch ply designs. Perhaps those who are on the MDF-only bandwagon might post photos of some of their builds, so we could see the obvious superiority emerge from the data rather than by assertion.

If you want further data showing very-high-end builds using BB ply, have a look at this:

That's AWESOME. Do any of these DIY high end speaker builders ever go into business? Or is it just for the love of it? I'd love to hear how his build turned out.

I developed and built prototype "enclosures" for some electrostatic freaks that were good friends of my boss at one time..........ended up being another fledgling audio company on the scrap heap of heartbreak. Mr. Matt P.pulled it off, very nicely!

There should be links to people around the world who have built the DTQWT. And yes, there are numerous people who post on the Parts Express board that sell their designs/services.

I don't believe many do as it's a love for the hobby and the process of it all....like the ritual of vinyl in a way. It's also expensive to become a bonafide manufacturer of a loudspeaker, not just become a business which is about $100.

A very good friend and I have been cultivating CES connections for a few years and may eventually bite the bullet but for now it's about timing and priorities. Plus, if you've ever tried to launch a business, its a bit overwhelming sometimes and you wish you could just point and click it all

One thing that bugs me a little is the seemingly interchangeability of the particle board and MDF names which are two very different and distinct materials. Furthermore, every Polk speaker cabinet that I possess is constructed with particle board.
That's correct AFAIK. I leave it up to you to say if that's a good or a bad thing.

P.S. AFAIK, there never has been and most likely never will be a solid ebony violin, it's tough enough just finding small sections suitable for turning clarinet sections from, plus.......it'd prolly sound like ****!
Agreed. I also doubt there is such a thing as a (good) solid ebony violin, but the point is that we're not talking about pure hardwood/softwood cabinet construction. The original point was that difficulties of solid wood are removed when laminating onto plywood. This also gives the required thickness for a roundover while still hiding the plywood endgrain. The roundover is standard these days to reduce cabinet diffraction, and is a pain to veneer. Has anyone here ever tried to veneer over a short-radius roundover?
