John, that's fine you don't wear sandals, I do much of the Summer hence my question. I actually wanted new sandals last year but I waited. Now I'm just looking for advice before I spend $75-$100 on something I wear 3-4 months out of the year.

Cheap sandals don't last and aren't comfortable when you sweat or wear them for an entire day or evening.

There's lots of diversity here on CP that's why I asked and I do appreciate your input, I just don't agree 100% because I do like sandals for many activities I do.

I'll add most of your reasons are solid, I don't do that type of fishing, crabbing on the sea. I fish out of a bass boat on a lake where it's mostly calm. For hardcore camping in the Mountains, etc I wouldn't wear sandals either. Lawn work or any other heavy outdoor work probably wouldn't wear sandals either.

No, I don't mow the lawn in sandals. That wasn't one of my stated uses. I wouldn't advocate that to anyone.

Also no, no fishing hooks. But really, with all the rest of your body there to catch a hook, what's the difference between catching one on your foot, or on your arm, or on your back?

Honestly, a piece of metal on the beach? These Tevas would protect the bottoms of your feet just as well as any sneaker or shoe this side of serious work boot/hiking boot. Who wears boots to the beach?

Look, its not like I don't wear shoes at all in the summer. I probably still wear them 75% of the time, but there are many times where a sport sandal can't be beat for comfort, ease of removal, use without socks, and the ability to get submerged.

Maybe its not a big deal to sweat it out in the 1 or 2 month long summer up North, but down South, it sucks having feet that feel like they are in a blast furnace for 6 months out of the year. Its better for your feet to get aired out anyway. I lived in Michigan for 25 years. I don't think I ever owned a pair of sandals up there. I probably didn't have any in Georgia for the first year or two. Since then, they have become preferred footwear in the summer.

    *SIGH*

You stated "summer watersports and outdoor activities". Well, I don't know what you do in the summer but that's what I do. That's why I listed them and that's why sandals won't work for me.

The problem with fishing hooks in your feet vs the rest of your body is that all the slop from fishing like bait, bait juice, fish guts and other effluence and not to mention the water teeming with microbes, all lands on the deck...where your feet are. Unless you are rolling around on the deck for whatever odd reason, a hole in your body anywhere else but your hands and feet is fairly easy to disinfect and keep clean.

And you don't need to step on anything directly to get it stuck in the side of your foot or flip over and get stuck in the top of your foot. Both spots where sandals leave you unprotected. Both spots where I've had broken crab trap wire or even a discarded stake or tent peg stick out of the ground and glance off of my boot when I stepped down. If it was a sandal, I'd have a pretty nasty gash in my foot, likely unable to walk well and stuck somewhere where help was not easily accessible. Not to mention dropping a slipper yset of pliers or a knife. They bounce off my boot and might hurt but at least they didn't stab me in my foot and cause bigger problems.

Who wears boots to the beach? I do. Thought that was clear? Do I wear boots to the beach where kids play in the sand and families frolic in the surf? No. Then again, I rarely go to that beach anymore. Do I wear boots to the beaches that I go fishing from? Yes.

1 to 2 month summer? Are you nuts? It was 85 degrees here all last week and we have maybe 2 or 3 days of reprieve before we start getting back to the 80 degree range. May just started. We are going to have pleasant weather for another month and then 90+ degree days and the humidity hits and sticks around until late September. And I've been south. Farther south than Georgia, to the Gulf coast and Hawaii for extended periods (months worth of time) where temps are higher for longer durations and I still wore boots or sneakers and was just fine with no desire to switch to sandals at all.

Why are you getting so pissy about this? I don't like sandals, they don't work for me. You will not change my mind and it's clear that your summer activities are nothing like mine so what's the use in comparing them? I have tons of experience spanning decades in some cases with my summer time activities and telling me comfort and ease of removal as reasons to abandon what my experience tells me is the better option isn't going to change my mind. You make your case for sandals and honestly, I make a compelling case against. I'm not saying you are wrong. I'm just saying they don't work for me. Just leave it at that.

Yeah, I get that. I haven't been disagree with that all.

If I went fishing on a bass boat in calm, fresh water lakes, I'd probably be barefoot let alone sandals. Completely different environment. But I don't so it doesn't work for me and the comfort level vs boots or shoes isn't large enough to take the risk. But again, I didn't start out disagreeing with anything. I made some stupid jokes but left it at that. I didn't even want to get involved. People asked repeatedly so I offered my opinion and was challenged. Now I'm being mocked for offering a different view point with valid reasoning behind it.

I'm still not disagreeing with anything. Sandals have their place and if you want to wear them, go ahead.

Beside talking about Pass, I can talk Sandal.

Here is my pick. Comfort, style and reliability are all top notch. And it's useable in all terrains. Don't worry about walking down a beach, go hiking, mowing lawns, and going fishing.

Oakley is like "Pass" in Sandals. I can't resist dropping Pass yet.

Would that make them an unnecessarily heavy sandal?

No Steve! They are very light sandal and lighter than most other brands.

And it's made with UNOBTAINIUM? tread according to Oakley.

    Don't know whatever that means.

    OK John,
You're Mr. Extreme everything I guess. Boots are your best bet obviously, but please don't act like Summers in the North East are anything like they are in the Deep South or you'll loose all credibility.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Only Club Polk can turn a stupid thread about sandals into a genital measuring contest.

They're going to revoke my Asian membership card but I dislike flip flops. Those damn things always break. IMO, sandals are an upgrade with better support. Flip flops are fine at the beach, at the pool, and in the shower when I'm at the gym or at a nasty motel.

When the heat index is 108 with 80% humidity, give me shorts, Nike Dry-Fit shirt, and sandals but I understand some of your apprehension concerning foot odor.
