Sport Sandal

Summer is around the corner and previously I've bought inexpensive sandals. Looking at getting something very comfortable, long life and I'm willing to spend more than I usually do.

So far the only 3 brands that I have found and are somewhat familiar with is

Keen, Teva and Columbia.

I really like these.

Any other suggestions I might not know about?

    Wow.

When did Club Polk mature far enough to warrant a discussion on comfortable, stylish footwear?

    Slow news day, huh?

I'm just baiting someone for an arguement about what constitutes comfortable and stylish :wink:.

I figure there are some outdoorsy types who have some experience with better than the average department store sandals. I'll also add I'm looking for something that is fairly rugged as well.

    What do you wear John?

If you don't mind spending money, the best sandal I ever owned was by a company named "Chaco."

I am a big fan of Keen footwear. I have several pairs of their hiking boots and shoes. I'm not a sandal wearer, but my wife has a pair of Keen sandals (similar to the ones you linked to) and loves them. My daughters both wear Chacos. The riverrat/hiker/rockclimber wears them all the time and my traveler daughter wore a pair all over SE Asia. The only complaint I hear is that they tend to be heavy for sandals...but they hold up well under heavy/rough use.

I just picked up some toe-shoes for riverwear, love em' so far. I'd check those out, a little goofy looking, but a very nice fit.

I prefer Teva over Keen and others. They have good support for a sandal, they don't mind getting wet repeatedly, and they hold up for a long time. I've had two pair now, the oldest is ~10 years old and I still wear them around the back yard even though the sole is starting to come loose. The other pair is ~6 years old and I still wear them regularly in the summer.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I like Teva and Skecher's personally. What style are you looking for? Sporty or old world leather. I prefer Sporty.

Haven't owned the others but have had two pair of Teva's and both have been stellar. Trail hiking, sailing, river wading, canoeing etc, a decent summer's worth of activity, not every weekend and not too extreme. Both lasted 5 years +.

Vibram Fivefingers are the best out there right now. Very comfortable, fit like a glove and just look stylish where ever you should go. They really turn heads.

Just because you're turning heads...does NOT mean you're stylish.

People are probably just turning around to see how much of a geek you are in those things.

I like Tevas. I had my last pair for almost 20 years. Finally fell apart, so I bought new ones. Not very comfortable at first compared to the old pair, but after a couple weeks of sporadic wear they feel like they're custom molded. Something to be aware of if you go with Teva.

I went with the basic $40 pair over the fancier $60 or $70 pair because they looked more waterproof/quick drying, which is important to me, as they're all I bring on beach vacations.

lol. I thought Brock's post read 'sports scandal' so I immediately clicked on it--then realized I must've been suffering from a brief moment of dyslexia? lol

I almost 'never' wear sandals, the skin on my ankles and tops of my feet is very very sensitive and is better protected. Plus with all the left over Road Salt where I live, you're asking for a 'burning'! If I'm on a beach, yeah, I might wear a pair of sandals but that's so rare it doesn't much matter what they are as they're probably at least 10 years old anyway?

I see Mr. Grand has pretty much summed it up above!

    Good Luck.

So all of you non wearing sandal people, what do you wear when you have shorts on and go out for casual dining or bar hopping, etc? Dress shoes look stupid and tennis/athletic shoes are extremely casual.

I have a couple picked out

heiney, i love the idea behind those open-air shoes, but I've yet to find any that aren't horribly uncomfortable, and plus my feet end up sweating in them.

I like sandals. I'd go barefoot if it was acceptable, but it isn't, so sandals it is. The idea that "men shouldn't do it" is retarded and is purely made up based on some macho bull and bizarre fashion. If you're so concerned with what is "manly" or "what men shouldn't do," maybe think about the idea that men shouldn't care what other men wear.

Except those toe sandal things. Those are just weird.
