Could 1Bs be converted to 1Cs?

So... I don't seem to be finding any SDA 1Cs in my area, but I am finding 1Bs. So, if I switched out the xovers (would be done anyway), and maybe the drivers (if needed), could I turn them into 1Cs?

Why bother? Get the 1B's and be happy.Political Correctness'.........defined

I was thinking the same thing. Get what you can get and make them the best you can.

Not really, the expense and effort still wouldn't make them 1C's. The biggest difference (in the end) being the cabinet structure which you could never replicate.
X-over replacement, driver replacement would cost A LOT and you'd never get close to your investment out of them.
1B's are no slouches, so be content if you find a pair of those.

Adding to that.....the 1B's cabinets are the same as the 1C studio version.Political Correctness'.........defined

I have to agree with everyone on this one. It's would cost more to turn your 1B's into 1C's than what you could get a pair of 1C's for and you still wouldn't have 1C's you'd have heavily modified 1B's. I know 1C's can be hard to find but if your hearts set on getting them save your money and keep your eyes pealed.
And to Quote H91B's are no slouches, so be content if you find a pair of those.
Bottom line IMO it's just not worth the time and trouble.“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain -
I know the pair you are looking at, I don't know why he hasn't been able to sell them - they look super clean in the pictures. The price isn't bad either.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

Get the 1Bs, add the 198 tweeters along with the crossover mods. You won't be able to use non-common-ground amps; but other than that I don't think you're giving up much to the 1C.
Others may disagree. -
Slight correction....the 1B's can only use the RD0194-1 tweeters.Political Correctness'.........defined

That's true but I was speaking of standard 1C's.

Probably not giving up much, but enough to still want 1C's if that's what your heart is set on.
The 1C's have a simpler x-over which yields a more natural SDA experience. 1C's (except early) use different more advanced drivers (side wound voice coils) compared to 1B's and the ability for most 1C's to use the AI-1 cable for non-common ground or mono amps. The non-studio cabinet is also a little better and damping and vibration control.
While all these things singularly don't seem to mean much...........add them together and 1C's are a little better than 1B's.
That said if you can find a nice pair of 1B's for a good price locally, go get them.

I have owed 1B's and 1C's. I would hold out for a pair of (later model) 1C's with the oak top and bottom caps and pin/blade SDA cable. Some of the earliest (transitional) 1C's used 1B cabinets and the blade/blade SDA cable. The later 1C's used a new and improved cabinet in addition to improved crossovers and different drivers.Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -

Yeah, I know I have some SDAs, and extremely nice ones at that. But they just make me want a pair of 1Cs all the more. Yes, I know I'm a greedy feckless ****. And no, I don't care. I want what I want when I want it

I'm working on my CRS+'s now, just got started on my custom stands yesterday at work should be done by the end of next week. The only thing I got left to do is upgrading the crossovers, and making some custom brass spikes for my stands. There will be about $800+ into these as well..
The 1C's are not beneath me they are a great speaker.. -

Agreed. There's no reason to worry about a conversion here, just mod them if you're restless....or keep looking.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
