I think it would be worth it to try the passives out of some 1C's or 2B's or the like those look like 12" passives, and if in fact that is just a magnet plate for a weight then they can't be too critical, plus you could look for a set of 12" passives with the weight..

    Think so?

I was offered a 1C passive that someone won from a karma, so I guess it's worth a try unless someone objects. Anyone know the weight of a passive radiator from a SDA 1C?

I would try and get two of them just so they match and the ballance would be the same at least.. My 1C's have the weights but I couldn't tell you what they weigh as they are glued in.

Trying them isn't going to hurt anything..

Hmm, was wondering what the weight of the entire passive radiator was not the weight itself. They might utilize the same basket....could be wrong though.

Regardless, I'll still be on the lookout for an SW-122.

I don't know the weight of the 1C PRs specifically, but regarding the passives in general, there seems to be some variation even within a particular model PR in terms of the weight. I was upgrading my 2B's last weekend and when I had both the passives out I noticed that one was heavier than the other. I got out the digital kitchen scale and one weighed 1lb 8oz and the other weighed 1lb 12oz. They looked completely identical otherwise, nothing loose, nothing missing, both had the stickers giving the model number SW121 and the part number (I'm guessing)... can't remember exactly what that was, 1202-B maybe. They were both the same.

Anyway, someone like Dorokusai might be able to help you get the specs on what the Q should be of the different PRs and you might be able to get close with another model without worrying too much about the weight. I'm just kinda spitballing here... mostly wanted to relate my weird experience with the PR weights.

    Thanks for that.

I did send Mark a PM though asking if he might have a passive laying around he could sell me for these speakers.

Was really hoping that I had a woofer or two out when I brought these home, not a passive!

Still I can't really complain. Just want to enjoy these!

In the meantime, I'm letting the glue cure (glued the weight back on).

I would be too just because i'm anal like that..

Upon further investigation, the drivers are all functional!

Guess the seller meant the passive was bad, since he simply said 1 of the drivers was out...nothing specific.

I'm loving the way things sound Ron!

To everyone else, what differences have others had comparing a Carver TFM-35 with a Parasound amp on SDA's? More specifically a Parasound HCA-1200.

When I get my Karma Passives, you are welcome to use them and see what you think. Then one day when you find a 3.1 passive just send them back to me bro.

One more note...does it seem odd that most Polk SDA's have the same style passive radiator but these speakers used a different one? I know there is a good reason, and I would like to know the answer. Anybody?

When you get them, can you weigh one of them and post it here?

I know it won't be a fair comparison between a 1C passive and mine since it's the weight+cone that needs to match but if the basket is nearly-identical it could work as a good substitute.

Before you say anything, yes I know this is not how you setup SDA's (lack of dedicated room)...hell I even have an actual brochure taken from an audio magazine from September of '91

Just going to say, everything's sounding great!

All I need is a 4 3/8" - 4 1/2" dust cap (with lip), attach it and call it a day!

    Thought I'd post on here rather than start a new thread over something small;

I've been listening to the 3.1's each and everyday. Enjoying them at low as well as 'moderate' volume levels and so far the weight on the passive is holding up just fine.

I've finally decided I want to glue a dustcap but am I looking for a 'poly' dustcap or 'paper'? I'm thinking poly.....correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, since I can't find a replacement passive I want a dustcap that closely resembles that of the OEM dustcap. The other dustcap measures at 4 3/8" which includes the lip.

Other than Parts-express (since they don't have one that closely matches the above size), where else should I look at getting a replacement dustcap?

I thought I find one place to purchase one but it required a minimum order of like $20 bucks and it was $11 something in shipping on top of that.
