We had a rather eventfull day Ed. We had two hot women start fist fighting. We had the beer-peanut guy short change us big time. We had a streaker that didn't get tased by B More's finest and some small other situations.

Still what a great day. Sorry I couldn't meet up with ya. Alot going on in section 67. lol

So, we are about a month away from the all-star break. Things are starting to shape up.

Boston isn't nearly as bad as some of you think.

The Marlins are creeping, somewhere. At least from where they are the only place they can creep from is behind.

Werth and his Nationals remain a non-issue...except for the Marlins.

Phils are plagued with injuries but still seeming to pull out the wins.

Cardinals have a pretty big Achilles heel there. Can't lose 5 in a row just 'cause your star outfielder is out with a boo-boo and expect to make the playoffs, guys.

When we started this, roughly 4 months ago, things looked pretty similar to how they are now.

So who's imploding? Who's doin' better than you thought? World Series predictions?

Atlanta had some signs of being pretty good early on, but they seem to be settling into mediocrity as usual. They take two series against a top team like the Phillies, but loose series against Washington and San Diego. They just can't seem to keep it going. I think they had the Phillies' lead down to 2 games, then they go on a loosing streak while the Phillies are now on a 7 game winning streak.

The Braves may be in the wildcard race, but even if they do get in, they'll make a quick exit in typical fashion.

I don't know. I have a bit more hope for the Bravos. Their rotation has been stellar. And the one-two punch of Kimbrel and Venters out of the bullpen is the best I've seen in years on ANY team.

Uggla's worrying the hell out of me, though.

I surprised the Padres and Twins are doing so poorly. Both teams were contending for the top spots and now they are in the bottom 5 in the entire league. Hell, Twins would be the worst team if it wasn't for that loud, sucking sound coming from Houston.

After today's win by the Phils, Hotlanta is 5.5 games back. If they lose to the Mets, they'll likely end up 6.5 games back since the Phils beat a division rival today and the Braves would lose to a division rival.

And where'd Colorado go? They went from having a .600+ season to .484 win percentage in 4 weeks. Maybe they are too close to Houston and the suck is rubbing off?

Sorry... but you're going to have to explain the logistics of that:tongue:

You know what? I've never been impressed with Uggla. I think he's over-rated and inconsistent in his batting. He's a good fielder and when he's hitting his bat might as well be a cannon but he has slumps that can last for weeks. He's just as if not more frustrating than Ryan Howard.

I don't think the Braves are out of it though. They've had some injuries but unfortunately they were to steady producers and that seems to have impacted them more than they'd probably had hoped. The talent pool there is deep though and if Uggla gets out of his slump (lowest he's ever hit. He's usually above .240 but is hovering around .75 this year and that blows for what they are paying him), the Braves have a competitive team. They are one of the few that actually look good against the Phils. Other teams have impressive rosters and even in a win of the Phils, you can tell they pulled it out of their butts. The Braves seem to walk in to the stadium knowing they will win and are surprised if they don't.

Sorry... but you're going to have to explain the logistics of that:tongue:

If the Phils plays Boston and win, they are 1-0. Since Boston is not a division or even a league rival, the game only counts as .5 in the divisional standing for the divisional rivals. So in the division, they are only .5-0

If the Phils play Atlanta and lose, they lose the .5 from above but the Braves gain a .5 game as well. The equates to a full game behind the lead where as the Boston game only gives the Phils half a game.

Since the Phils beat the Marlins, a divisional rival, they put the Marlins another full game back with their +.5 and the Marlins -.5.

If Atlanta loses to the Mets, they will be a full game down again as well because the Mets are a divisional rival. The Mets will not be any closer to the lead so they'll like be 9 games out still because the Phils won. For the Mets to gain ground with a win, the Phils have to lose.

However, since all 4 teams are playing division rivals, the Braves will go .5 games down to the Phils because they didn't play the Phils. But the Phils won a division game so they gain .5 games on the Braves for the division win over the Marlins. That's a full game.

It's confusing stuff so I could be off on that but from what I understand about the wild card system, I think that's how it goes for divisional games that count towards wild card standings. For other games outside of the division, the half-game thing doesn't work out the same.

    John,
Its actually much more simple than that. It doesn't matter if you're playing a division rival, someone from the opposite coast, or its inter-league play. Its all about the win/loss percentage. If one team wins and the other looses, it is a full game swing. If both teams win or if both loose, it stays the same. If one team has the day off and the other one wins or looses, the difference changes by .5 games. You can also get .5 game changes if one team plays a double header, or if there's a rainout, etc.

I suppose the reason why Philly is showing a 5.5 game lead right now is because they played an early game and the Braves don't play until later today. If the Braves win, it will go back to 5 games. If they loose, it will go to 6 games.

    So much for those O's......................

But I still think they're better than most people think!

Looking at the standings lately, I hate to say it, but it looks like Boston could be getting ready to pull away. However, it's still too early to tell! 162 is a lot of games...

So it's about 10 days away from the All-Star break.

Phils passed 50 wins earlier in the week and have been hovering right around a 2:1 W/L ratio for a while now. They played the Red Sox and took the series 2 games to 1 from them. Lotsa people said that was a glimpse of late October baseball.

    Whatdaya think?

    How's your team doin?

Ugh... I seriously cringed when I saw you brought this thread back to life again!

Went to a game 2 days ago, and they were pathetic! Lost 5-1... loaded the bases with no outs in the 5th and in succession, Markakis, Jones, and Guerrero all failed to produce a single run... painful! Still losing more than they're winning, and I can't seem to put my finger on an obvious remedy (yeah, better hitting and pitching...). They're very inconsistent (well, maybe not at losing), but I still love 'em! I'm still looking forward to more games this season.

Braves are coming to life. 8-2 over the last 10. Swept the Mariners in Seattle, now in a home series against the floundering Orioles (took the 1st tonight). After that, I think we have a 4-game series with the Rockies then one big weekend in Philly.

By the break, I predict the Braves will be less than 2 games out.

They still need some bats. McPhail is still trying to lasso one of the re-treads hoping to catch lightning in a bottle (Garrett Atkins, Mark Reynolds, Derrick Lee). It would be nice if they had gotten Adrian Gonzalez but I hope they stay away from Prince Fielder. With as big as he is, once his skills go down that will be it, kinda like his dad. They probably need to get a replacement for Brian Roberts as well. I like the guy a lot but that doesn't win games. Just my two cents. Cheers.
