2011 Baseball predictions?

Baseball season is upon us, but I can't wait for it to warm up a little more! Got my tickets for the home opener in Baltimore on Monday. (And there's snow outside right now!)
Let me just start this off by putting it out there - This is THE YEAR that the O's finally do it!
World Series? Nah, not going that far... yet.
Division title? Errr... AL East is pretty tough...
Wild card????
What I'm saying is that I'm thinking (read hoping) that they will finally bust .500 this year! It's been a long time... Oh, would I LOVE that!

With that pitching staff the Phillies should be strong.
I don't give my Jays much chance. -
Yanks/Detroit will be postponed today...when will MLB ever wise up scheduling the first week?Yep, my name really is Bob.

I will go out on a limb here...the Cubs will not win the world series.

I know everyone's defaulting to the Phils winning it all, but I wouldn't be so quick to automatically grant them even the NL East. Teams with strong rotations aren't always a shoe-in for a championship. Just look at the Braves in the '90's. Plus... their batting order has taken a few steps back and their preseason was nothing short of a disaster.
I guess what I'm saying is that there always seems to be some "sure-fire" contender at this point and it rarely pans out. Hell... look at Seattle this time last year and what everyone was saying. It CLOSELY mirrors what others are saying about the Phils this year and we know how the Mariners turned out.
Then again - I'm a Braves fan and probably talking out my ****.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. I keep seeing media pundits say Phils/Red Sox World Series. While I think that would be absolutely freakin' awesome, October is a looooong way away.
On a bonus, Chase Utley has been showing steady improvement and was taking fielding practice. Hopefully he's not a season long DL'er. The Phils did pick up some decent temporary talent though so I don't think things are as bad as zombie boy puts it.
I also keep hearing consistent rumblings about Pujols being a Phillie by years end since St. Louis doesn't want to pay him.
Oh and steveinaz, Wainwright is not playing this season last I heard and without him, they lose a large chunk of their offense that a disgruntled Pujols will likely not fill. I think St. Louis has a chance but it's very uncertain.
I'm just hoping that the Yankees start showing their age this year and start floundering. I would hate to see them in the playoffs again. Stupid Yankees.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

I know you know your baseball inside out, but I'm kinda confused by this statement. How does losing Wainright hinder the Cardinals' offensive production?
And yeah... I'm probably putting too much stock in the Phillies off-season woes. I'm a Braves fan that needs some glimmer of hope in this stocked division. Who know? Maybe the Marlins will creep up on everybodyI never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. I'm excited about the team too.
I'll be at opening day too. Please no rain. -

A pitcher has alot to do with offensive production. A pitcher's responsibility is to not allow hits. When you have an average set of bats and one big gun, you need to rely on pitchers to ensure that even a small lead wins a game. Wainwright is, by far, their best arm, IMO. With arguably the best bat in the game being Big Al, they compliment each other well. But when Big Al is the only offense of the game, the Cards struggle, especially if the pitcher can't keep up. So if Wainwright is out and he pitches, say, 20% of the games, that 20% is no longer a sure thing and at the end of the season, it stacks up.
Maybe I look at it differently. Baseball really is a team sport even though we like to focus on the individual. It seems simple but honestly, it's alot of strategy and playing against odds.
As far as the Phillies, alot of their sucktastic games in the pre-season were due to split squads playing two games at once. The Phils ran through a good deal of prospects in spring training and looked at quite a few players. I think they have more talent than they think and they have alot of work to do on development of that talent. Fortunately, the Phils have a fairly strong farm team system. So do the Braves and the Marlins for that matter. When the Phils did play the starters for a few innings, they were very potent. I really think it's hard to discount the talent that is on that team. They are going to be a joy to watch even if they don't get to the big show.
But I'll tell ya, this kid-at-heart baseball fan is desperately hoping for a Phils vs. Red Sox World Series this year! If it happens, I will be glued to the tube for all of it!
The Marlins though, they are always a dark horse. They aren't always "good" but they always seem to have a potential to ruin a season for another team in the NL East if they aren't a contender themselves. I honestly don't like the Marlins but at the same time, I love seeing the competition. They keep it interesting, that's for sure. And with a stacked division with the Phils, the Braves and the Mets, it's always a fun race in the NL East. Hopefully money grabbing Werth can do what he thinks he can for the Nats and they can actually get in the mix instead of padding the records of the rest of the NL East.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Personally, I'll lose interest in a Phils vs. Red Sox World Series... I love me some dark horses. I love to see a story develop over the course of the season that nobody really saw coming. I love the teams where you get a different guy contributing every day, from the stars to the journeymen to the minor league call-ups...
Unless it's the Yankees. -
"A-Rod nearly outearns Kansas City Royals"...that just ain't right!
No wonder there are so many Yanks haters out there, well along with the continued post season appearances. Yes, I'm a Yanks fan since age 5 but I do understand the anti-Yankees mindset. Of course, I don't want Boston in the WS and somehow I just don't think the Phils are going to make it amidst all the HIGH expectations.
No sense in me making predictions though since I got the opening day postponement call wrong!Yep, my name really is Bob.

We're going to Boston this summer for a mini vacation and I'm trying to go when the Yanks are in town so I can root for them with my Yanks jersey on in Fenway. Yes, I hate the Sawx.

WOW! What a way to open the season! Come from behind win in the bottom of the 9th for the Phils!
I think I know why. This kid was there and workin' his magic again in the 9th inning!

They should put him on the roster!
His seats are just out of view off the side of the screen but right in the line of sight of the pitcher. There have been a couple times where the opposing team pitchers have said that the kid freaked them out!Expert Moron Extraordinaire

I'm still waiting for the bad karma from Jeffrey Maier to come back and bite the Yanks! (Probably a little too late now...) At least this kid doesn't interfere with play! -

I predict I will not care about baseball again in 2011 until at least the playoffs... and then I will still not care.
And as triple plays go... yesterday's by the Tribe had to be one of the least exciting in the history of the gameMore later,
