Hi All,

I sit tonight writing from the hospital where I am caring for my Mother. She got dementia on Thursday and had trouble with movement after being in pretty decent shape for 72. Today is her 73rd birthday as she lays just feet away from me gasping for breath as comfortable as I can make her.

The dementia turned out to be from a urinary tract infection that had turned into Sepsis. We thought this was great news because that is 100% curable and treatable. Usually the dementia goes away in two days as the infection clears from IV antibiotics. Instead of getting better Mom got rapidly worse. Dozens of tests, being stuck with needles and strapped down onto contraptions and they discovered one of her heart valves is mostly clogged with calcium. This is akin to a water hose when you put your thumb over it- it sprays more quickly but reduced volume. Her volume measures right at 25% normal. Her brain was slowly starved of blood and how the dementia got worse (they think). The last words she ever spoke was when she was barely able to recognize me but said I love you. Anyway after all of those tests we decided to focus on comfort and stop any heroic efforts to save her. Now I sit watching her slowly decline and don't suspect she will make it through tomorrow.

Anyway sorry for such a long post but you really recognize how much you love someone when they are dying right next to you. Please pray for us and our family.

    Prayers send.

My mom has dementia as well and she's not even 70. It pains me to see my mom's health deteriorate month by month. I can still remember my mom when she was in her late 20s and early 30s.

Such is very heart breaking indeed. Keep in mind you were there for her before she lost conscience and she had the opportunity to tell you that she loves you.

Now, where she goes from there is the will of God. I sure hope she can go through this but if this is not the will of God just have comfort in thinking that she had a good healthy life and that she didn't have to go through any long painful illness so that she may leave this eart in a respectable way.

Thoughts and and prayers sent your way for your mom, your self and family.

May God strengthen and bless you all during this hardship.
