I don't have an Apple TV but my friends do and it is very nice to be able to push media and control it all from my iPad and iPhone.

Also, I use the DirecTV app on the iPad to control my receivers in my place, which is really nice.

You are quite correct. They do an excellent job marketing a very strong product.

The Apple TV new streamer with Airplay is a incredible. The ability to have friends over and everyone can share their pictures , movies , and music is just flat out amazing. We all sit around and throw pictures up on the Tv , then someone will start a playlist , then another and so on. It's badass.

I wish they would have also upgraded the old Apple Tv with Airplay but they didn't or come out with a Larger Hard drive model with Airplay like maybe a 1tb model. I would have purchased one even if it was like 500.00 .

on my iPhone 4 the most I've done is around 780mb

Where do you go to get that info?

This stuff is worthless to the average consumer . . . which is why Apple doesn't include the option.

That is far down the list on reason why Apple doesn't allow any differentiation in their products.

I might get a cheap iPad when prices finally start dropping, but I'm not sure why cameras and a slightly smaller package = worth buying over an original iPad.

Ok, I seriously have to ask this... what the hell are you guys doing with your ipads? I've been trying to figure out a philosophy of use for this thing since before it came out.

Not for internet, surely because 1. typing is a pain, 2. no flash/java
Not for music, a phone/mp3 player would be a much better choice
Not for word processing/email/notes because of the typing issue (unless I'm missing something), and a phone is nearly as effective.
Surely not for books because of eye strain/better options

So, what are you using your ipads for and how often?

I use my original iPad solely for work. The iPad replaced my laptop for convenience. First, it is discreet. I can take notes in a meeting that may be easily communicated to the partners. It word processes and emails effectively while at the same time providing me with a very effective means to present documents to clients or others. Frankly, it has made my life easier and I don't see myself ever going back to a laptop and pen and paper.

If typing is a big issue you can buy a blu tooth keyboard. Also watching movies on the iPad is outstanding and very convenient.

Neither of those would be a good reason to get the iPad 2 for me. The main reason to get an iPad 2 over the original is the speed, the new one is much quicker and is more future-proof in terms of processing capabilities.

The speed difference is immediately noticeable across the board. Also the screen is a lot brighter with better color reproduction at the same settings.

They are certainly nowhere near the iPhone 4 quality but perfectly acceptable for Facetime.

I used my original iPad and now my iPad 2 for at least a few hours a day. In fact, I hardly ever use my desktop at home. Outside of work, I almost exclusively use my iPad for all my computing needs.

Typing is very easy and the browsing experience is excellent. I never visit any sites with Java and any site that may have Flash video, they have players for MP4 anyway, like gametrailers.com.

Use it for music all the time since it has twice the capacity of my iPhone and the battery last significantly longer.

Use it for personal and work emails since I have them all pushed to the device and as I mentioned earlier, it is very easy to type on once you get used to it.

When I take the train into work, I catch up on news, stream Sirius, read my email, play a game, maybe watch a show, talk over IMs, or just browse the web. Then when people are over, it gets used constantly. The phenomenal battery life combined with the instant on and off made me sell my laptop as it was never getting any use.

Nobody ever griped about the iPad being "slow", so I still don't see how making it faster is a selling point (to those who know). There isn't a major software overhaul expected for at least 6 months, and the current software version doesn't strain the original iPad's abilities at all as it is.

Obviously the addition of a camera or two makes it worthwhile to some people, but fortunately I don't know many people with iProducts, so "Facetime" isn't really a selling point.

It was never considered "slow" but there were times when it would halt here and there when opening apps, particularly when switching apps. Also, Safari would never save states for tabs due to the 256MB of RAM. I can think of plenty of times where I have had to wait for a webpage or app to fully load.

Having owned both, when you don't know any better, the iPad can be perfectly acceptable but having used my iPad 2 for almost a week now, the speed gains that are universally across the board and particularly substantial in webpage rendering and 3D games, it is worth it.

I ended up picking up 2 of them, the wife saw the keynote and just had to have one. I got the 64gb 3G black and got the wife a white 64gb WiFi... I jailbreak all my "iDevices", so that solves many of the issues. I still have the original unlimited data plan on my iPhone 4 so I just install the MyWi app and tether my iPad. Just wanted the 3G so I could turn it on if I ever wanted too.

I got the bluetooth keyboard and it has replaced my laptop for %95 of its functions. I am an Systems Engineer and I can even remote desktop into any of the servers in my datacenter and fix a problem quickly on the road without running home and grabbing my laptop. I can take this with me wherever I go. Email, Web, and pretty much everything else on the iPad is just simple. Gets the job done!

Must've missed my point, I did feel that it was slow, the other guy was claiming it wasn't to back his justification for getting the first one.

I know, I just like giving you apple guys ****. Makes my day go by faster

I'll probably own a tablet eventually. I like the idea. But everything I do is so Windows based, I'm waiting for one with windows to come out. They have them now, but theyre too expensive for what i want to spend at the moment. I bought a pair of netbooks for me and the wife a couple years ago. Almost regret it now, but if I wouldve waited I wouldve missed out on all the benefits of having one for the past couple years.

I'll probably end up buying a tablet for the wife before I do for me, because her netbook is kinda crappy. But like I said, it will be windows based. Im a huge android fan, but I wont be buying their tablets either.

I'll probably end up buying a new laptop first though. The one I have now, even after reinstalling windows, is running like crap...so I'm guessing its a hardware issue. I bought it around 04-05, so its had its life I guess. I want something with a bluray player so we can hook it up to the new in the bedroom and not have to buy another bluray player for it

That's interesting. I had no idea people used them for those things. I can see how the battery life could be convenient.... and vnc. I guess I just could never justify one. It's hard for me to get past the fact that it uses the same os as my phone. So, for the most part, my phone has the same function.

I'm not one to carry around a device like that, though. I don't own a man purse and having one hand always taken would be quite a bit to get used to.... especially when it is essentially my phone with a bigger screen

It definitely doesn't seem like it is for you as you mentioned. However, while you can do all the same things on a phone, due to the higher resolution and speed, combined with the significantly stronger battery, it adds up and can replace laptops for many.

I was very much in the same boat as you before I used one. Figured I already had a smartphone and a laptop, so where does this fit in? Fortunately my company has them, which we can use for travel and I checked one out for a week, I was sold... then sold my laptop.

    Well, guess what I did....

I sold my soul to the devil, er, bought an iPad2.

So I guess to hell with my 'principles' and 'sticking it to the man'. Don't get me wrong, I still hate Apple. At the end of the day though, the iPad is the only tablet that'll do everything I want it to do and do it well. When something better comes along (still holding my breath for the Asus Transformer) then I'll likely switch, but for now this is the device that does everything I want well.

What actually pushed me over the edge is that they're rolling out iPad support at work, so I'll be able to remote into work using the iPad.

No flash (and knowing it's not gonna ever happen) is a bummer but I got the wifi version anyway, so I'll always have my Android phone around if I need to access Flash sites.

I have to admit it's very slick. After using it for a bit, the whole thing is very smooth and games run great on it. The only complaints I have really are the camera quality and the lack of Flash or java support, but all the positives outweigh those.

Playing with the cameras some more...

Both cameras are terrible at taking still photos, but that's not why I bought the product. The front camera is good enough for video chat.

The back camera does do a decent job of recording video, pair that with iMovie and it's pretty cool. You can tell that the camera was designed for video though and not still images.

So last night my friend was using FaceTime on my iPad when it fell. This is the result:
    d0462da8.jpg

I arranged a time at the Apple store to bring it in and have it assessed. The employee at the store said, "You must've been devastated!". He said he would be back in a few minutes and went into the back. He walked out with a brand new shrink wrapped iPad 2, placed a service slip in front of me and said, "I know how awful this must have been, we want to offer you a complimentary replacement.". I didn't even buy it from an Apple store, rather at Best Buy, didn't have my receipt or the box.

    Absolutely amazing service.
