Good bye LSi and Welcome Magneplanar!
images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRHbHjBrYO_wVWMG2J_rox_W-lDj8x9HmH3Vlkbd8CIseByp3uIXw
It`s true, my Forum friends, certainly as the title says, today I say good bye to my complete LSi series and at the same time I welcome my new Magnepan complete series .
Since I got LSi series, on March 20th, 2009, I have shared the experience of knowing a good audio product with which I have been very pleased.
On that date I became a member of this Forum and I found that most of its members share their knowledges in a serious and respectful way; this strengthens the Forum existence.
I thank the Forum its teachings, mainly related to LSi and the fact that you have supported my limitations of communication because English language is not my native language.
The guiding principle learned is to listen our audio system more than ask advice to others about their components, configurations and settings because sometimes we get subjective opinions, others are not true and others come from inexperienced people. At the end we must to conclude that the best sound is a decision, our ear and the fruit of research.
The advice or instruction to the new members is always listening, listening and listening the audio system before deciding to live a sound experience, it is something personal.
At some point, I centralized my updated expectatives on the new LSi-M series, however, I felt unsafe in the way of introduction, together with the uncertain date of start, took me to another purpose. I hope to list them in the future and feel the experience LSi gave me in those moments and today I say good-bye.
In this endless research of what is today the best sound, I have updated my configuration in a full way to a Magneplanar audio system which has my full recommendation.
I warn you, this is not an easy system to build, but accomplished the task to listen the Magneplanar ? either as stereo or home theather- caused me a fascination and attraction difficult to explain. The illusion and reality get mixed in space and makes you feel the experience of being part of this true musical universe, is actually have in my room as close to the interpreter.
I am absolutely delighted with them at home, although I miss my MBL that always will take me to another dimension.
I know that there will be interest in knowing that pushes my new system. Well, I am using a five-channel Bryston 9B-SST2 and I have used also my dear Sunfire. Both are to listen and appreciate slowly because each has its importance; I like both but my hearing in special moments feels better with the secret created by Bob. The most important is that each one produces a different scene to play with space. I also updated my Denon 4308Ci to the new Marantz AV-7005, as well as my Oppo BDP-83SE to Oppo BDP-93, both ready to HDM 1.4a, LG N2B1DD2 Network Storage, Furman IT-Reference-15-I, Furman AC-215 and a new 65-inch plasma.

Congrats! I am building a Maggie system with some refurbed SMGa's but I will be keeping my LSi setup as well. Which Maggies did you buy? Please post pics of the setup! I've found the Maggie sound to be addictive.

    Besides, panels suck for HT.

Its a personal preference for what speakers you choose and your comment is ignorant and insulting . I have panel speakers for HT and think my old rti cones in a coffin sucked but I dont go saying it like it was the final opinion in audio

If you don't mind limited dynamics and a small sweet spot, all the power to you.

So, panel guys call box speakers "cones in a coffin"? That's freaking hilarious.:tongue:

yep - seems to me audio nirvana is a journey... and we're all here to share our experiences on that journey.

so if the OP likes panels (and for obviously subjective reasons) then he should very well enjoy them.

I think what some folks on here don't realize is that many people use their systems for dual purpose, i.e., home theatre and two channel in the same setup.

Maybe he's willing to sacrifice some dynamics in home theatre for the sake of better sound overall then we should all respect his preferences.

    i'm just sayin

I dont understand this limited dynamics for ht when it comes to panel speakers ?

Martin logan speakers are very directional so if I am listening for where a particular sounds coming from then I dont have the problem I did with huge dispersion

Alot of folks say stats aint for them but then they own a pair and never go back

I've been through "monkey coffins" and use my Magnepan (highly modified) panels for both TV/DVD and 2 channel. I would have a very difficult time going back to boxes - I've yet to hear a set that could compare - and I have compared.

Would appear that the peanut gallery has again tainted a thread with comments that are based on wisdom gained by assumption. Have any of you actually listened to Magnepan speakers - any of them?

I think you will love your Maggy's and time will tell. I'd bet you'll not go back to boxes.

I owned a pair and sold them a few months later. I've also demoed panels from King Sound and Maggie at friend's homes. In fact, one friend has a nice pair of modded maggies in his 2ch/HT room, but moves them out of the way and uses a pair of monkey coffins for HT.

If you can integrate a sub with them, they can sound very nice for music.

I am a panel (more accurately call Open Baffle instead of Panel) guy. But I agree with Face coz I know what he means.

I have heard multiple OB / Panel speakers and also owned a few. The so called panels can be made out of regular cone speakers and not necessary from the Magnetic Planar driver, Ribbon Driver or Electrostats Elements.

The shortcoming with the Panel (OB) Type speaker is in the Bass department. And HT requires really good Bass to define movies. Even with subs added, the panel speaker is a little weak for HT usage. But it's all how you feel about it, if it's sufficient for you, then it is. But it may not be sufficient for everyone else.

Yep - they do come up short in bass. I have a pair of woofers to suppliment them. Alone for HT they would be missing something without the woofs.

I preferred the martin logan over the maggies but to be fair I remember reading a review of the magnipan 3.6 r with the 1.6's being used for surround . The reviewer had great things to say about them when they popped in a copy of mirrors

At one point in the reviewer said to his friends " shall we turn of the sub " and it turned out they never even had the sub on so they flat panel speakers can pump out the bass

For HT everyone needs a sub and most speakers are left crossed over at 80 htz so who needs that bass . The sweet spot rule only really applies for critical listening during 2 channel , no one does critical listening when you have company

For Ht the panel speakers are great and the sweet spot is irrelevant due to the addition of a good center channel .The dispersion is only limited to those standing up and I dont know anyone who does not have piles that enjoys watching a movie standing up
