I'm leaning toward semi-gloss black chassis and base. Then do the transformers in an automotive dark red/burgundy. So, black - black - red. The chassis is pitted from the rust and a gloss paint on the chassis would show that. The base is done in Krylon semi-gloss black lacquer.
I do have the stickers for the transformers.

Now that you mention auto body fillers, I think some red putty would work well. Its thinner and easier to spot fill in smaller areas. So, back to a red chassis. A little more work but I think looks better.

Try the Ferrari red. For some reason I cannot get that color out of my head. I think the next set of amps I build will feature Rosso Corso and a prancing horse soemwhere.The Gear... I think black trannies and a silver vein finish on the chassis would look steller only because getting it chromed will be a lot of work,also the silver vein would cover any and all flaws from the rust giving it the pits..
