MC240 found in a shed

How's this for a lost, forgotten, neglected MC240 found in a shed. Alas chrome is all rusted, the lettering is all but gone and a bit of dirt. Seems to all be here but would be a lot of work to rebuild. I guess I'll check the transformers and see if they are good. That will determine if it is even worth cleaning.

It's like those guys who find Bugattis in sheds in old farms. It happens.
(sort of like monkeys and typewriters and Shakespeare, y'know?)

It doesn't really look all that bad, you're just spoiled! :-)

I've got stuff in my basement that is uglier and has less intrinsic value. ... begging the question, of course, of why I don't just pitch it!

    You are a fortunate man.

Nice find! Is it happened to be your own shed or someone else?

I doubt he'd be giving that one away, the potted trannies alone are worth a cheap used car.

Nice find Luther, what else was in that shed?

Just wait, I know Luther. This thread will die off and become forgotten, then a few months down the road he will 'bump' it with an update, it will be all blinged out, maybe even powercoated, or he will have built a custom chassis, etc, and blow everyone away.

It got hosed but with a can of flux stripper. Cleans, evaporates quick, no residue and won't harm electonics.

I was going to suggest some Simichrome polish then noticed the tube in your pictures.

Keep us updated as to how it's going.

Takes a lot of patience to put this together right. Takes a lot of time too. Good find and hope it all works out.

I don't think it looks that bad either. Nice find. You could easily have that chassis rechromed. I don't know about redoing the lettering. I remember reading in Glass Audio an article about silk screening letters, unfortunely I can't remember the issue. Maybe an internet search could come up with something. If the trannies are good, your halfway there. Again, nice find. Good luck.

Time for an update: I decided to do what I can with what I have and get the amp up and going. I may, at a later date, do a full blown rebuild and replace the chassis, but for now...bead blasting.

Primer done...so what color do you think I should paint the chassis? Satin black, silver, burgundy, something else?

If you are restoring to original, I'd stick with original color scheme. If you are modding then go with whatever you like. Assuming of course your plan is to keep it. That is a seriously cool project you have there. Looking good so far.

This one is for me. I may rebuild at a later date and use a nice pretty new chrome chassis but for now I think some color.
