What do you guys eat for breakfast?

So we've been working on changing our eating habbits, eating at home alot more recently, and saving a ton of cash. Its easy enough to cook dinner, and taking something for lunch isn't a big deal either.

The meal that's hardest for us is breakfast. I don't do cereal or oatmeal, and we don't have the time always to wake up and cook eggs or a full meal like that.

All my friends either don't eat breakfast or just grab a bowl of cereal, and neither of those options work for me. Lately I've been grabbing a Zone bar, but not sure how healthy those are.

I just thought I'd see what others out there are doing, or if the norm really is to just skip breakfast altogether.

    Weekdays are different than weekends.

Weekdays my kids have school and my wife and I both work so it is a simpler quicker breakfast - mostly cereal and milk, a bagel or muffic, some cut fruit that my wife will prepare on Sunday and put into bags for the week, and some OJ.

Weekends we always do the full blown breakfast with eggs, bacon, toast, or muffins, fruit - maybe pancakes or french toast every now and then instead of toast.

Right now, 5 scrambled egg whites and 3 turkey bacon slices. Next Tuesday, 3 regular scrambled eggs and regular bacon. Sometimes, I'll crack the eggs, stir them in a bowl, and cover it with foil and throw it in the fridge the night before. Saves a few minutes

Our local grocery store also has its own name brand 'O'Brien-style hash browns'. Similar to these:
    http://www.oreida.com/products/o-brien.aspx

Just square cut up hashbrowns with peppers and onions. I'll cook them on the stove until theyre done, then add in an appropriate amount of eggs. Makes fantastic potato-egg breakfast tacos. Put it in a bowl and just heat it up in the mornings with a tortilla. Can even add some shredded cheese.

Well, if you're concerned about being even remotely healthy, avoid things like bagels and muffins, which are horrible for you. Fruit, yogurt, eggs. Or, nothing's to stop you from eating what you'd eat for, say, lunch as breakfast. Why eggs are relegated to breakfast while turkey sandwiches are only lunch I will never understand.

    Soup usually.

What a funny word, soup. Soup. SOUP. Now it looks like it is spelled wrong.

My wife loves a glass of Carnation Instant Breakfast. You can make it real quick with milk, put it in a Nalgene bottle and drink on the road....

It isnt a massive amount of calories (which she really likes since shes not a breakfast person) and is actually quite filling.

I use it and mix in a scoop of protein mix for added calories :)

I always hated oatmeal growing up. I think it was a texture thing. I tried some apple-cinnamon instant oatmeal a couple of months ago and am hooked.

I know the instant/processed stuff isn't as good for you as the all natural, but it's still a hell of a lot better than the sausage biscuits I used to eat every morning. So for 3$, I get a box of oatmeal that is breakfast all week at work (2 packs per day.)

Do you prefer Italian then? They have three words that generally mean soup: zuppa, brodo, and minestra.

Favorite parents saying to their children, "o sta miestra, o per la finestra". Loosely translated as, "This soup or get out." My parents are teaching it to my children now.

Back to the topic... I generally eat 1 or 2 of the following: banana, yogurt, orange, bread/bagel, mixed fruit, OJ. These are easy to grab and go. I have cereal on weekends.

I agree with others though... fruits, grains, cheese (not processed), and simple cold-cuts are all good for breakfast. Try to stay away from too many sugary and high fat snacks though. I agree with Bobman, much better to eat a plain (no mayo) turkey on wheat bread sandwich with a slice of lettuce or tomato than a sausage and egg bagel.

Fruit and veggie smoothie with some Udo's oil every weekday. Weekends we will do more traditional breakfasts but I am always thankful to get back to the smoothies.

i don't do bread or many cereals, although i love both.
I eat 4-5 egg whites (sometimes one yolk) black beans, spinach, and super spicy salsa every morning. I also keep a dozen hardboiled eggs in the fridge for the mornings I'm running late. A good amount of protein within 45 minutes of waking is one of the best thing you can do for yourself (as well as adding legumes and veggies) it helps buffer against blood sugar peaks, as well as promotes other beneficial processes. Also cinnamon in your coffee instead of cream, and cutting out excess dairy. but thats all other things that you may or may not want to do depending on your goals.

I can dig it, pretty much my routine too. Though I have been taking supplements to offset some of my bad habits. I eat pretty good but don't avoid the bad stuff either, just try and keep it in moderation. Ice cream, italian lunch meats, are two of my down falls.
Breakfast, if I am hungry, would most likely be a banana and a cheese danish washed down with coffee followed by a smoke...of coarse. If I'm real hungry when I get up, sausage sammy.

    Extra large Coffee everyday!

I am usually not that hungry in the morning. All I need is lots of caffeine.

Some suggestions make me wonder whether you eat supper at night before going to bed.

Coz sometimes I do eat snacks for supper and sometimes I don't. But regardless, I usually only have coffee for breakfast.

20oz of green smoothie we prep the evening before. Nice to wake up grab a glass from the fridge, shake and slurp. Been doing it for nearly three years. It's a mixture of nuts/seeds, fruit and gobs of kale, spinach and whatever green we have extra. That and a banana later in the morning keeps me going until lunch.
