tony,
C'mon man.... don't leave me hanging. Link us up, so next time I know how low to shoot.
shack,
Never been to the big leagues... in the deep end of the pool... AH that is. Here and AK does me fine. The currant flows through the IC's via the pre. The hot of the pre is tied to the ground just like in an amp.
Edit:Input impeadance on an average pre is 47k. This basically means that the signal has a 47k resistance to ground.
You do realize just how little current you are talking about? I mean a say 100-ish mV potential applied across a 47+ kilo-Ohm load = 0.00000213 amperes or 2.13 micro-amps.
Not flaming you... just skeptical.
jet,

I hear ya T2M. I have thought about building a simple female jack with a low value resistor across the pin and jacket to increase the currant. That would speed up burn in times considerably using a CDP as a source. It would be a much cheaper option than getting a cable cooker. I have also thought about using a small amp and putting a 4r12w resistor across the pin and jacket for cooking purposes. A little shootout would be fun, but I would want it to be tried by a few different Polkies to get a more honest opinion than just one individuals thoughts.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

No worries, I've been considering Ben's suggestion and had similar questions so thanks for taking point!
I'm thinking what I may do to give these D-backs a fair shot is hook them up between my tuner and Pre and let it run.SystemLuxman L-590AXII Integrated Amplifier|KEF Reference 1 Loudspeakers|PS Audio Directream Jr|Sansui TU-9900 Tuner|TEAC A-6100 RtR|Nakamichi RX-202 Cassette -
I had the Diamondbacks too. At first I liked them, but after a while I couldn't stand them anymore. I don't know if it was bad synergy or something else.
I then purchased a set of AQ Jaguar and I liked it a lot more than the DB but still wasn't satisfied. Since then I've stayed away from silver connectors and have been very happy. I'm sure they're great cables, but they just don't work out in my rig.
btw, I like your screen name. Are you a fan of the Boeing 737? -

jet,
I'm a stockholder... Forget breaking in IC's and go fix the Dreamliner...
ben,
Now I'm not following your rig proposal... What would the resistor be across that it would form a circuit? Are you talking about the IC's core and shielding?
And I really got lost on the "small amp" option...
Real issue I have is given skin effects and other demonstrated wire idiosyncrasies, I've a hard time seeing the benefits of a < 0.1 ma current...More later,

What happened to the 737? I thought they're still the most popular and best selling model?
Can't wait until the 787's start flying. I live near the airport and plane spot with binoculars from the backyard once in a while. Would love to see those massive wing flex while flying near the house. I see a lot of 737's, 777, once in a while I get some nice views of A330's. On busy hours, I see one every few seconds. Don't know how many runways are being used. -
I found the both the Copperheads and Diamondbacks to be a step up in sound quality from the Sidewinders. The differences were subtle but there. I think the Diamondbacks may be more detailed/revealing...which is probably what you are noticing and don't like. I also felt they provided a little better bass response when I compared them (about 6 years ago). My sidewinders haven't seen use in a long time. I sold the Diamondbacks and kept the Copperheads as the difference between them were hardly noticable.
Ditto but with some comments from past listening.
Years ago when we got in Audioquest , we had the entire line in store to demo. I listened carefully to each IC. What I noticed is basically what was written above. Moving from system to system with different speakers and gear, this really did not change.
The Sidwinder IC's are a very good detailed IC. I find nothing wrong with them especially for what they cost. They are such a value. When moving up the AQ line , slight improvements are made like the cables become more refined. When you enter into the BDS series , this is where the "like balanced" type sound or lack their of is reached. very clear and detailed. You can hear a pretty big difference going from the King Cobra to the Jaguars. But the Sidewinder IC still even compared to this level perform very well.
I have no complaints about any Audioquest cables including speaker wire or IC. Everything they make even at entry level is top notch.
Synergy is a **** and I feel is almost impossible to get it right unless you have unlimited funds and a wealth of gear , speakers , wires , sources etc. I do however feel with patience , trail and error one can build a system to enjoy.Dan

Aaah good to hear. I thought something bad happened.
Tour,
Yeah, I love the 777 but for the past 20+ years, the McDonnel Douglas DC-10 has been my favorite. It's nice to see a handful of them still flying today.
Man, I just realized I hijacked your thread. I apologize for the de-rail. -
