Don't get stupid Jesse. I really don't have the patience for you to drop down to treitz' level and ask dumb questions or make amateurish quips.
Ask a straight person if they're **** and they tend to be more insulted/freaked out by that than if they're called any type of slur.
Calling someone **** has never been a kind/endearing thing, and if you don't realize that, you're living under a rock. Anyone who is playing THAT level of dumb has much bigger issues I think.comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
Who here is calling anybody here a ****? I thought we were talking bout a song?~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

A long time ago The Rolling Stones "Let's Spend The Night Together" was banned in almost all of North America for it's suggestion of pre marital sex. I believe in censorship for the right reasons. Obvious hateful and inflammatory stuff or degradation or violence toward women, certain groups, races, religions etc. But in art and literature we need to be a lot more careful. What about all the great works of art that depict nude men and women, or religious figures, or scenes of war. It's a long way from censoring **** anti semitic propaganda to cutting a word from a song when it's intended meaning was never offensive.
By the way, I grew up in a very homophobic home. My father even went so far as to say if one of my boys turns out **** I'll disown them. It made me somewhat homophobic for a time in my adult life. It was durring this period that being called a **** would have caused the same reaction as was stated above. Now, I have several **** and **** friends and associates and some family members. My father has even stopped being a homophobe and now you could call me any kind of term like that and I may ask you what you have against **** but I certainly won't punch you out. I've grown up and so has dad.SDA-1C (full mods)

What blows me away is that this song is being edited while many truly offensive rap songs with lyrics that could only be thought of as womanizing, sexualizing, violent and seriously anti-social survive unscathed. The lyrics in money for nothing were always meant to from the perspective of an every day working stiff joe watching MTV and being jealous of the rock start lifestyle. This is still art and as a Canadian I'm pissed that friggin' conservative federal government is doing this crap. Just as in Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn the bad words are being used to illustrate a point. It's not used to promote racism in Tom Sawyer and it's not used to promote homophobia in Money For Nothing. Both are art and should be left alone.
That basically sums up my thoughts too.
I really find the entire concept of even editing/censoring a song to be pointless. If a song is on the radio and a line comes along that has a swear word in it, or some kind of racial/sexual preference oriented slur in it, it's not as if the censoring prevents people from knowing what the word is. It's pretty simple to take the context and the surrounding words and figure out what the word is. Swear words and insults are part of the English language. I don't know why people take such offense to it.
The word "****" is just a word. It can mean MANY different things. From "**** you, you ****", "this is **** annoying", "I don't give a ****"...all the way to "I want to **** you". It's a damn word just like any other word.
****=****.
If someone calls you a ****, they are calling you ****. Why should you be offended because they're simply stating what you are? Yes, **** is generally used as a derogatory term...but if you're offended by it, you really need to find something better to do. Somehow words like "redneck" or "cracker" tend to be excepted from this type of reaction. People for some reason don't feel that being called a cracker is as bad as being called a ****. Why should one be worse than the other? Redneck can be a very offensive term too...if you allow it to be.
People really need to quit being so sensitive. When someone insults you, it simply means that they're trying to make themselves feel better about themselves. They're trying to somehow put themselves "above" you...and in doing so, they basically put themselves below you. Taking offense to it only justifies the fact that they're calling you that. If **** people quit being offended by the word "****", people would eventually stop calling them faggots, once they realized that it wasn't offending anyone. Think about that the next time you get offended over somebody calling you something.
One of my best friends is ****. I call him a **** on a daily basis. When he meets someone new, he will commonly tell them that he's a ****. He doesn't say that he's ****, or homosexual or anything like that. He tells them that he's a ****. He takes no offense to the word, and nobody else should either.
Like I said, taking offense to a name only encourages people to keep on using it. If **** people would quit getting so worked up and offended over people using the word ****, the people trying to insult them would quit using it for the most part.
I'm a bit of a redneck. I'm a working class male from a lower income bracket, and I work outside all the time. I've got a bit of pink in my neck. There have been some times that someone has called me a redneck intending to insult me. I just laugh at them. I don't let peoples insults get to me though, unlike some people.

Brett stated at least a thousand times that he doesn't care about the song in particular, just your (and others) assertion that no one should be offended by a word.
Comparing something like "****" or the n-word to "redneck" is totally missing the point. "Rednecks" aren't a group with a history of being strung up to trees or stoned to death or exiled for who they are. If you go to school in the south, EVERYONE'S a redneck, so you're not being picked out, are you? Not that rednecks go to school, of course. Try finding a **** guy in a school in the south. Who do you think has been terrorized more by name calling and being ostracized?
It's a lot more than "hurting someone's feelings." There's a lot of backgroudn there you are completely ignoring, because, again, middle-aged straight white guy. You (or I, since I'm the exact same) have no idea what it is to be a true minority. And I'm not saying this like we should have a pity party for everyone in some kind of minority, just tha tyou have to understand that for some people "a word" might have a little more resonance.
Yeah no one should let name calling get to them and blah blah, but at least you have to acknowledge that certain "names" have MUCH more power behind them than others. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
It's offensive, don't use it, move on.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.
