Took in a stray today...

Found a dog wondering around in the snow...

Pitbull mix -- looks like he had a gunshot wound in the leg, very infected...

But malnourished - gave him some food... gave him a bath -- took some stuff the vet gave me for my dog to put on his wound -- left the medicine swab there and taped it in place on his leg --

VERY docile dog, sweet as can be - partially trained already seems like --- going to take him to the vet tomorrow...

Why do people suck?

Not sure - at this point, getting it taped up with that medicine was a pita - he was whining and crying the whole time... tons of pain

    Here is a pic

I know the kennel is wayyyy to small for him - but I dont want him sleeping in my dogs kennel. If it turns out he is staying an appropriate size kennel will be purchased for his sleeping endeavors

I hate that. We have 2 adopted dogs, and have placed 2 others. I will never own a 'bought' dog, as there are so many out there that need good homes. I don't know how many friends have called me to say their dog has been shot, seems like a real issue. Can't say I've had the best of luck though, one has a 'woman issue' ;) and needs to take a pill every three days or so, the other one has to be fed a narcotic twice a day to keep from a seizure killing him! Ugh! BUT we love them both the same, as they we're our kids.

Where are you in NC? I may be able to help you with a larger kennel. If I can't, I'll volunteer any Polkies house/apt in nearby NC as your dogs kennel, that should be large enough. :)

From what I can tell, looks like you did a great job wrapping his leg, I wish you two the best of luck, and hopefully a great addition to you family. Dogs work better in pairs!!

    I appreciate the offers ---

I will know more in the next few days... whether or not he will be staying.

Wonderful dog so far - hard for me to understand how someone can harm or abandon such a creature

    Why do people suck?

You don't suck  Good job rescuing the little rascal. Wish there were more people out there like you.

If the dog doesn't stay, be real careful where he/she goes if you elect the "shelter" route. Don't want to give the dog a death sentence. PM me if you want to ask some questions.

Because people are a$$&*%@s and don't look at humans as animals therefore we're superior. I just say we're domesticated and evolved more, but very much equal to other species. I am an animal lover and respect anyone who could do what you're doing Trey.

My dog was taken from a friend of my girlfriend. He was barely a year old rat terrior mix of some sort, completely untrained, hyper as alllllll hell and this guy was just gonna put him down if he couldn't find anyone. He was working 50-60 hour weeks and living in a small apt so he wanted a buddy to come home to. luckily we got him because he is the joy of my life. We've trained him to mind us, do some fun tricks and he's the lover we are so we all cuddle a lot. He's softly between my legs as I'm typing this now. Great dog. Love him as my son.

Good on you. That's a good looking dog, and you know if you keep him he'll be the most thankful dog in the world. I wish I were closer (I'm over in Chapel Hill), since I have a big kennel that my dog doesn't really use anymore...

Keep us posted with what the vet says.... used to work at one actually back in high school and was always surprised how resilient dogs are. Injuries that look like they should kill a dog seem to heal up nicely with some good treatment. Good luck.
