Thoughts and prayers go out to all involved, this is tragic and unacceptable. We wre in Tombstone at the Crystal Palace bar when this came on the news--right when it happened. Though we don't support Giffords politically--we certainly are praying for her full recovery.

Extremely sad situation. Best wishes for the wounded to pull through. How quickly we try to align behavior like this with left or right, when most of these people know no political agenda other than the one they've contrived in their head and that belongs to only them or a small group of followers, if their actions were politically motivated at all.

Hey ya doug, if you're possibly referring to me, i will say this much...that 'ole gabby ran quite a smear campaign full if LIES and misinformation. Hope she recovers, but not to the capacity of returning to office. This is my neighborhood and that gives me a little right to speak on the subject. The part that saddens me most are all the innocents that were victimized. Gabby as well, but she didn't do herself any favors by the way she conducted business.

Having said that, i do hope the dumbass 22 year old "boy" is quickly executed for his crimes.

The only part of your comments that I agree with is the last sentence. Nobody cares what kind of campaign she ran, what her party affiliation is or anything else for that matter. This is not about anyone's politics. I wish her a FULL and SPEEDY recovery, and that she regains her full God-given potential. This idiot should not be allowed to have his will enforced upon anyone, and that is exactly what this powerless **** of human excrement hoped to do by his actions. The voters chose her(though you may not have) and they deserve to have her back.

Most importantly, her FAMILY deserves to have her back as she was before this senseless tragedy, though it is certain her life and those other families affected will never be the same. I pray that the Congresswoman and all those injured to be restored to perfect health. For those that were lost, I pray God give their souls rest and that their families be comforted in their time of grief.

forgive me, but was this thread titled to depict it be a momorial? if that was the op's original intent, then apologies i offer up.

let's remember that men/women possess the ability to carry out grave offenses. it can happen anywhere and at any time. due respect is given to the innocent persons that both directly and indirectly were affected by what happened today.

politics will ensue. that's a given. we'll leave that out of this thread and won't be allowed to touch on it in any new one due to the rules. but don't expect everyone to react as though they had just lost a member of their immediate family.

i don't think anyone believes that you have to kiss her butt . its just when you say something like that , it sounds like in some strange way you are siding with the shooter. the only good thing that can come of this ,is that she make a full recovery and gets back in office.this would be a big FU to this kid and anyone who may sympathize with him in any capacity.

But seriously you shouldn't even breathe that you hope that she doesn't return to office - that is tantamount to aiding and abetting the enemy. You should in no way encourage these senseless acts of violence by insinuating that the you hope the person shot doesn't recover her full faculties necessary for carrying out the duties of her office.

It doesn't matter what side of politics she's on or you are on, this was totaly wrong by any account. We can all agree on that. The media and talking heads will quickly lay blame to whatever will further an agenda. Sad, really sad, that we can't just see it for what it is, a senseless act of violence. We can only pray for the speedy recovery of all involved and for those who lost loved ones.
I'm one who probably is as guilty as others posting political crap, I'll admit to that,but here and now is not the time or place for such.

As the OP of record my sole intent was to alert members to the stunningly sad news I came across while channel and CP thread surfing. Unfortunately the channel I landed on was CNN just as they were reporting that they "confirmed" an NPR report of the Congresswoman's passing. Before I learned otherwise, the thread, and its title, was set.
However, no matter my intent your comment was way over the line. To your credit you have walked it back in the face of near universal condemnation and, to your even greater credit, have chosen to go silent.

I agree that CP is certainly not the place. And I agree that now is not the time, but only because the facts are not all known.

That the act was senseless will never be in dispute. However, to leave it at that, to head off informed examination and discussion, if and when additional facts may come to light, cannot happen. I hope we can agree on that….


Clip from neurosurgeon just aired…. The Congresswoman is still in critical condition in intensive care, but she responded to doctors’ instructions this morning.

and quit labelling me as the killer's sympathizer. i said to execute him. i interjected a comment earlier on about not wanting her to return to office. it surely was worded in a strong manner which was not my intent when i posted it. but i do stand by what i said. this thread just wasn't the place for it. sorry that i'm not just a sheep and will now kneel down and kiss someone's feet just because an act like this has affected her life. sorry, won't do it.

anyway, getting back to the supposed intent of the thread, here's to hoping for as best a recovery as possible. and thoughts and prayers go out to the others that lost their lives. i'm closer to this than most of you here as it's in my own city. i've been watching coverage all day yesterday on it and today since i've woken up. don't try to call me out on this. this hits far closer to me than it does you, not geographically speaking, that is.

Thank you Cody for "getting it".

Obviously i feel bad for the victims. One person that sticks out in my mind is the neighbor of the little girl who died. He/she just wanted to show the little girl a little bit of politcs. It wasn't even the parent of the girl who will probably lead an unfulfilling life due to the guilt they will feel for her murder, though the person was completely innocent.
