Is the DVE anything like the Spears & Munsil disk? I'm assuming the same, but thought I'd ask. Also, anyone have any experience or know if a sound calibration disc is helpful or worth it?

Yes, some prefer S&M. As far as sound, I'm 2-channel, you'll have to ask one of the surround gurus.

I have to agree with thsmith. I find after my TV settled in that I don't feel the need to have it calibrated. I use either THX or studio ref and am happy with one for any given source.

Congrats on your new purchase. Looks like the perect size for your room. Now all you need are a few more Carbon 7s so you can go full HT,lol. I'm sure Sean can suggest a center channel to match.

Yes. Gotta order some longer HDMI cables, grab a wireworld cable raceway, and pick a mount.

I found a nice paintable raceway at Home Depot of all places. The speedbump on the wall is so much better than dangling cables.

    Very nice system!

"HD Size 2" is actually correct (1080p) pixel-to-pixel scaling. Size 1 zooms the image 5% (thought to reduce nasties on the edge of broadcast screens). If the setting is grayed out, connect your bluray player to the input, and change the setting to HD Size 2; then reconnect your HDTV receiver back to the input. I think the TV is looking for a 1080p input before it will allow you to change the HD Size parameter, and the DirecTV only goes to 1080i (unless you have a 1080p PPV movie playing).

    Correction

The only way to get a DirecTV HD STB to output 1080i is by setting Native mode to "on."; otherwise everything is output as 720p. If you switch to native mode on, you'll then be able to set the S2 series to "HD Size 2" when you select a 1080i channel--and the setting will hold anytime you select a 1080i channel.
