Cat likes drivers.

I just moved back into the parents house for the winter break and I moved the LSi's out of storage. My parents have a kitten, he seems to like to destroy mesh things, so I have removed all the grills. Problem is, he seems to like messing with drivers (scratching at them). He hasn't gotten to the LSi's yet, but I'd like to avoid any problem. Does anyone have any working methods to stop cats from messing with things?

A Shotgun or put the grills back on, your choice.

    Sorry I couldn't help myself.

Well, he destroyed the right sub grill... so I removed them. I guess the drivers are more expensive than the grills, but still. I kinda want to stop him from doing it.

I don't hold with cruelty to speakers. In my house soemthing would have to give, and the cat would be the first to go. Fortunately, my cat is terrified of my speakers. Every time my animals got to sniffing around them, I would crank the volume until they got the message.

It should fit in the garbage disposal ! Nah,JK Try to put some aluminum screen material if front of the grill cloth or soak something with ammonia and put it in front of the speakers.

A little extreme maybe but you can get one of those small shock mats they use to train cats and dogs and lay it in front of those cones, he/she will get a harmless shock when they step on it and that should take care of that.

Yeah. I found a pair (sans one woofer) at the dump, and very inexpensively acquired another pair to serve as organ donors so I made out fine. The driver in the photo was restored by a local fellow (another AK member) to use as a replacement in a later Alllison (CD6, IIRC) that he was restoring.

The Allison Ones are nice, nice sounding loudspeakers, by the way...

EDIT: A mug shot of the culprit.

I like the idea of the shocking mat... as long as it isn't too hard on a 6 pound cat. I'm not gonna declaw the poor thing... that's cruel. The cats are my family, I treat them as such.

Yeah, i don't agree with de-clawing either which reminds me of another idea...i have the vet attache what are known as "soft-claws" which are plastic sheaths which go over a cats claws..no more scratches, you have to go back 4 times a year to redo them but.....

This reminds me of a time much earlier in my life when I had a pair of Cerwin Vega AT-15's, which have a large port in the back......

I had a cat that loved to go into the port and sleep in them......And when I caught it in there, it was time to crank the system up. Needless these speakers had some very serious bass. It would take the cat several seconds to make it's way out and I can't describe the look in her eyes:eek::eek:

Mix some strong drugs and alcohol and you may come close to the look. The stupid cat took a while to learn, but she finally caught on and left them alone....

Maybe not the best thing to post, but it was funny at the time.

Got a tuxedo cat also. I keep her claws clipped. That mitigates a ton of problems. Also sour apple spray.

I don't think declawing a cat is necessary. You just have to put in a little more effort. I believe in the EU it's illegal.

Got my first cat declawed because I didn't know better. Read into it for my 2nd cat, and realised it's essentially cutting them off at the first knuckle. My 2nd and 3rd cats have both retained their claws. The 2nd cat liked to scratch the grills, and I couldn't get her to stop. Luckily, she went with the ex. 3rd cat has had no interest in scratching the speakers. She does like picking at the carpet and also at one old armchair in the house. I tolerate that, as long as she doesn't go after the speakers.

If you keep their nails trimmed, they can't do as much damage. Even once a week just to keep them from getting a tip on them is enough. Don't have to take much; just square them off.

Have a cat's front claws removed saves your furniture, and does no lasting damage to the cat. I had both of my cats declawed and they lived long HEALTHY INDOOR lives. Tami made it to 20 & Oscar made it to 13.

What's cruel is letting them wander outside to possibly get into fights with other animals, get run over, get fleas, etc. It generally shortens their life spans a great deal.

They can still jump, they have no problem catching mice, I lost count of how many Tami brought me.

This is the best solution to keep your gear safe & your cats.

My friend's cat decided to knock over one of his new monitor 50's, he found it laying face down when he got home from work. After scaring the s#!t out of the cats with the new sub I built for him, he said the cats haven't been back in that room lol.

I love cats, I have 4 in the house and 10 I feed outside. plus two dogs.

We just had a bunch of work done to the house and the dogs and the cats except one have not been allowed back into the main living area of the house. we have them locked up in our laundry room which is heated and has windows and a couch with all their beds.

One cat, Jackie is allowed around the house with us because he's very good but at night he gets put back into the laundry room.

So either lock away the cat or close the door to the room with the speakers. I have done the later for years and I am tired of it.
