I am looking to connect my receiver to a 5 channel amp. What is the best way to do this? What brand cable like Audioquest or Monster that is rated as a high quality connection.

Thanks!

    do you need balanced?

    or unbalanced

awesome cables but probably not the price range you were looking for. It normally helps if you state a budget.

Kenny, welcome to Club Polk. The way to connect the pre-outs on a receiver to the inputs on a separate amplifier is to use a coaxial cable with an RCA plug on each end. This cable performs a very simple function in providing a shielded(from outside electrical interference)pathway for the electro-magnetic wave traveling down its outside to the amplifier. The only mistake that's likely to be made on this is to spend the ridiculous amounts that some try to charge the gullible. There's no correlation between sound quality and price in this area and you can't do better than something like these from MonoPrice .

Come on John you have stooped even lower than usual with those craptacular cables. Again buy something decent used. If you don't like what you hear then sell them and you have lost nothing.

Ben, thanks for your kind words. When I got a new sub(about $1100) four years ago this was the exact cable that I got(12' length)and have used since.

    Correction:
There's very little correlation between sound quality and price in this area when using entry level gear. However, I only know what I read since I have no experience with either good gear, or good cables.

I'd also ask what speakers and speaker cables are being used as well.

The more I read and listen for myself - the more I agree that there is some thought needed for targeting system synergy across all components - which includes cables - all of them.

Thanks everyone for your expertise. The equipment I am setting up is as follows:
Denon AVR3311, Emotiva XPA-5 amp: LSi 15, LSi9, LSiC and DSW Pro500. I figured for speaker cable the Belden 5000 series 10-gauge - I have to run 50+ feet. I really want to do this right and with the amount of cash I already put out, I don't want to compromise with the connections. I am using this for both HT and music.

    Again, THANKS MUCHO!

I'd go with the warmest cables you could possibly find on a budget. Signal or Audioquest would be my vote. Signal or Audioquest Sidewinders if you want to keep the hit to the wallet to a minimum.

I would skip the 10AWG and stay with 12AWG - 10 is pretty difficult to work with. Also, think about running the 12AWG Belden for the surrounds only and something a step up for the center and fronts - Signal 2 or Silver maybe.

Agreed. While I like 10awg for everything, it's a bit non-compliant when it comes to tight corners, like surrounds. You have to keep in mind the shielding, wrap, winding and sheath which increases the thickness even more.

Kevhed's suggestions are solid and I prefer the Signal Analog2 but I'd skip the Signal Silver Resolution option for anything HT.

HT is easy and the cost savings in regards to silver vs copper are large and the sonic benefits are small in this application. YMMV.

I got a good pair of Signal's type 4's for my fronts. I will be using Monoprice 12g. for my surrounds ,and Monoprice interconnects. The way I see it, if I dont like them I can upgrade easily as they are inexpensive.

That is some pretty decent equipment. Did not your sales person have any advice? Spending about 10% of your total investment on cables is a good guideline. depending on budget Monoprice can get you going. Unless you over extended yourself buying your equipment I am sure you can do better. Monoprice leaves a lot to be desired. I don;t think there is anything of lower quality including stock interconnects. I would be a plus 1 on the signal cable, supporting a small U.S. company works for me.

I have had many years of excellent performance in many setups with these. I own about dozen pairs.

Type 4's are Audioquest, not signal. They are pretty decent entry level cables.

Monster is mostly crap. They have made a few good products over the years, but I refuse to buy anything with their name on it because they are a bunch of d-bags.

You can also ignore anything John K says in a cable thread. He's just jealous that he can't afford good cables. He also hates Christmas, slaps babies, and puts ketchup on hot dogs.

I am pretty happy with the Kimber Kables that I've been using, but really want to try out the MIT's.
