Stolen Goods in Flea Market?

Has anyone else noticed the number of 'new in box' items that have been appearing on the Flea Market? Normally I wouldn't be concerned, but these tend to be new technology pieces, that if purchased legitimately, could simply be returned to the store they were purchased from for a full price refund.

I'm not doubting that some stuff is legit, as we all have things we've purchased and never opened, but I have a hard time understanding why folks that have barely over 100 posts would be listing 'new in box' items and selling them here at a loss when they could just drive to the store they bought it from and return the item for a full refund.

The only good explanation I have is that they're unloading 'hot' items. I'm not going to link to anything specific....its all there to be seen if you look.

Thoughts?

You've never lost a receipt before?
Received a gift on your birthday and didn't want it?
Sometimes it's less of a hassle to break even or lose a tad just so you don't have to deal with customer service.

    or

Prostitutes are now taking audio gear as payment.

The same person sure loses lots of receipts and then comes to Club Polk of all places and gets just over 100 posts to list items.

I've actually wondered about that, but have decided I'd personally never buy from that person anyway. If they appear to be a thief, I don't trust them to honor our transaction, so I won't do business with them at all.

    Hah.

It's the price you pay when you buy used. I bought a TV a few years back at a pretty darn good deal... I can't say for certain if it is stolen (and don't much care), I just don't think I'll ever call about the warranty.

Unfortunately, I've never seen a public registry of stolen items by serial number. I don't even know if they have one for guns. Buyer beware, and all that.

I agree, something fishy with those sales and I'd personally stay clear.

I usually don't buy from someone anyway when their only real activity on here is buying and selling things, I prefer to deal with people who are an active part of the community here.

And on top of that, the prices aren't really that great...

It really wasn't about shocking anyone. This is a relatively new thing with the frequency I have noticed it happening. I'm trying to make sure nobody gets screwed by bringing it up for a discussion. I guess if something is stolen, ignorance is bliss for the buyer, but its thieves that will do other underhanded things and are driving up the costs on goods for everyone else. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

The Flea Market is still a big deal and should be protected.

I agree. And as Assimilated said, the prices aren't that great anyway. I'd rather the pay the extra and buy from the store myself. And you're right, the FM is a big deal and should be protected.

More likely is somebody has an inside link to closeouts or lost freight, etc.
Buy cheap and resell. Just like fleabay without those pesky seller's fees.

Even at places like Best Buy etc I know for a FACT that there are certain items that they would never get a discount on certain things (for example a PS3 or of that nature) because Sony etc don't want things to be bought there then sold for profit and those things have a fixed cost.

I have to agree that it seems highly odd of why not just return it, etc. I did sell something new in the box but it was due to being past the return time as I forgot when I purchased it and wanted something different. Oh well that does happen but every other week is strange.

It's about a 2 second search to find.... The fact that he hasn't spoke up to defend himself is disconcerting.

Its a positive thing that the discussion would come up. By maintaining a higher standard we know the flea market will continue to be here. (I know I have upgrades that I need to accomplish ) Potentially this sorts itself out as there is now light on it..........

There is no proof. The title of the thread has a question mark. "Stolen Goods in the Flea Market?"

It's simply asking a question. "Hey, notice several FS ads selling new in box merchadise? Seems a little fishy to me, what do you guys think?"

No one has said, "______ is selling stolen goods in the Flea Market."

No real proof I would guess. But IF you Google that seller you will see he does this on MANY different forums. To me CP is giving him free advertising space for his "business" to sell. And as already said that email me don't PM me thing is a red flag to me.

We have other members here who make things and sell them, using Polk for free advertising. Why not jump on them?

Those curcumstances are completely different and you know it.

Those are guys who have built a reputation and who participate outside of the fleam market regularly.

We're talking about a guy who really only shows up to sell stuff...
