That is awesome. All these kids and their parents should be very proud for what they did here. My applause to them all.

That warms the heart. Thanks for sharing that.

This is just plain awesome. I think I heard a story about him before doing all the drills ect and being able to be on the team but getting to play and get a touch down is just wonderful.
He just wants to play and its great to see a school support him and let him play. I know there is a lot of other places out there that wouldn't even let him be on the team but this is just really awesome of everyone. -
This is amazing not only will this kid remember this the rest of his life as will the other kids on both teams.Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)

You play sports to win.
That's the American way.
If you can't play find another activity, there are many things for kids to do.
They probably don't keep score either.
No wonder we are in the mess we are in.
Make everyone equal, everyone passes and no one fails.
Hmmm.
Let's face it, the little guy isn't going "pro" in his lifetime, what's the problem with letting him have a moment in the spotlight? Would you feel the same if that was your son?Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

really? if this isn't trolling I don't know what is.
You are saying that they shouldn't let him play? wow...
Reported, I'm getting sick of this stuff. This thread is here to show the goodness of people and how they can let anyone play. NOT that everyone wins and turn this into some stupid political thread or the downfall of society. -
Most leagues have tryouts. Or is that a thing of the past too?
So if you disagree with something, that is trolling?
Learning to be competitive is a very good thing and is an important lesson from sports.
We need that in our society, instead of a sense of entitlement.
Our values have been turned upside down.
WOW ! Have you ever experienced anything like what these kids will carry the rest of their life ?
I think your description of sports is the problem.
I think you missed the point of what these kids did for a Down syndrome kids.

The game was over (31-0 with 10 seconds left), and the kid in question had Down's Syndrome, and thus likely doesn't understand the complexities of winning and losing and their importance on one's psyche.
In other news, I really hope you get hit by a drunk driver. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
Too bad there was an obvious false start by the offense. The play should have definitely been called back.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Steve you sure know how to raise tears out of an old crusty man!!! I love those kids so much and do a lot of volunteer work with them. They can make you laugh and cry in the same instance. I have relatives who are either mentally retarded or have Down Syndrome.
They truly are God's angels to us on this earth. -

No absolutely not. Three of my children actually played sports at a highly competitive level and did very well for themselves because of it.
Another went into dancing because she was more suited to it. There is something for everyone.
I believe that watering down an activity for everyone does more harm overall than good.
I'm pretty sure you know nothing about what sports really mean. 95% of people who play sports go nowhere "professionally". They play for the joy of playing, then move on to the rest of their lives.
Back on topic - this is a great story, and one I will share with my students and teaching staff here. It shows the better side of human behavior."Dr Dunn admitted that his research could also be interpreted as evidence that women are shallower than men. He said: "Let's face it - there's evidence to support it."Best Buy is for people who don't know any better. Magnolia is for people who don't know any better and have more money to spend.

Good Lord man, I'm shocked to hear this come from you! You call yourself a Christian!?!
This wasn't a lefty make everyone equal moment. It was to make a kid with a terrible disability feel great about himself and in his mind contribute and accomplish something wonderful.
Damn, I wish I didn't peek at this from my ignore list because you just made me sick to my stomach!!! That is a disgraceful post given the circumstances!!! -
I'm surprised with all this talk of winning that you are the picture of a loser.

I can't believe you are that obtuse to think that a special kid has a sense of entitlement because he's permitted to score a touchdown!

Life is one grand, sweet song, so start the music. ~Ronald Reagan -
Youth sports is about real competition, real fair play, and preparing them for the real world.
They learn how to socialize though it. They learn a work ethic and what it means to succeed.
Giving one a sense of false hope will lead to their depression when they find out that they were played on.
Letting him win is a "hoax". It simply isn't real.
The ends do not justify the means.
It may be nice and a feel good moment, but doing it through deception is really sending the wrong message.
You understand the kid in question is mentally disabled, right?
Being someone with an obvious mental deficiency, I would think you'd be sympathetic. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

That's pure BS! Down Syndrome folks would have no idea what false hope, etc to cause depression!
Do some research Mark before you open your big mouth stuff your foot in it.
Yes I'm taking your posts personally as I've been dealing with the mentally retarded and Down Syndrome kids & adults some in my family since I was a child and they are truly special gifts to us from God! -
I have a relative who was challenged. As I said he was allowed to "win" many times as a child. This was destructive when he became an adult. I have seen both sides of the coin on this. As I said, the ends to not justify the means.
How so? Please elaborate. -
This really is a feel good moment. And for the life of me, I can't figure out why anyone would wish anything less for the kid.
Kind of reminds me of this story from a few years back...

It wasn't a happy story so I won't go further.
Hey I'm all in support of the Special Olympics. That is great for the challenged and disabled, but we need to keep all sports honest and fair for all.
Wow man! The game was, for all intents and purposes OVER. Both the teams, the coaches and the parents and the opposing players let this angel have his day in the sun peeking through the darkness he has to live with each day. I'm just sitting here shaking my head. You're entitled to your opinion and I won't even broach that topic but where is your heart Mark? -
Your douchebaggery knows no bounds eh Xcapri? Yea, I said it. I'm tired of biting my tongue here so as to not offend the masses. You sir, are a grade A ****.
Obviously sports should be fair and equal to all, may the fittest survive, blah blah blah, on and on.
The kids on BOTH teams decided to do something very special for this one guy who obviously wouldn't have gotten that experience otherwise. How you can find fault in these HS kids having a huge collective heart is beyond my comprehension.
You sound like the very act stole every kid on the field's chance to play college football or something.
Get over yourself and your high and mighty "I hold everyone to the same exacting standard regardless of the circumstances" attitude. Good for you. Way to judge 2 football teams for their kind treatment of 1 disabled person. If you honestly think their "high school football accomplishments" outweigh what they felt/learned from this act of kindness, you're a more sad individual than evenI gave you credit for.2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ

Yeah, I just thought he'd have something more humane to say for once!
I'm very forgiving and don't hold grudges. They cause me more harm than the person in-which the grudge is held against. -
