Haha it all started with opening them up and seeing those cheap **** parts...

    The rest is down hill...

If I do anything with the preampe it will be a while... I emailed Alex at Odyssey to see what he would do.

Do you buy through Madison Sound for Clarity Caps or somewhere different?

Face is a good resource --I read a post of his somewhere, and IIRC I got my MR series caps from a place named Caps N coils,, took about 2 weeks to get em,, but very reasonably priced.
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

Are there major differences between Sonicaps and Clarity?? (price and performance)

Just ordered Diffraction be Gone + No Rez to put on the inside of the cabinet.

Going to trick these things out for sure

Wow, thats cool dude. I've never cracked my Tylers.

Tell me more about this Diffraction be Gone + No Rez and how it would improve the speakers.

The Diffraction be gone is supposed to make the cabinet disappear and make the tweeter sound alot more open and cleaner - not really something I think needs to be fixed but something I wanted to try.

Ty only puts poly fill in the front of my speakers -- so I am going to line alot of the back and front of the enclosure with no rez to help cut down on standing waves and so forth in the cabinet

Also apparently the Hovland Musicap is a very bright capacitor and with those new resistors - while it all sounds worlds better has unleashed the brightness...

So I cant wait to drop in those Clarity MR caps.

Ern if you would be up for it - I would like for you to crack open your speakers just to see what kind of parts Ty used on the inside of your speakers...

I gotta be honest seeing the cheap parts he used my overall enthusiasm for my speakers dwindled - at least for his brand as a whole.

While I always thought they sounded good - Ty advertises top quality parts in the important signal paths... this is not the case.

Either way - take 400 bucks and throw it at the crossovers... resistors and caps and expect a whole new speaker.

    Exactly what is he using?

He uses Bennic capacitors (Pieces of **** capacitors that you find in bargain bins) on the woofers...

He uses Eagles Resistors... which I guess are ok - judging by how much of an improvement I received with Duelund resistors I would put them right with Bennic...

The Musicap by Hovland is actually a decent capacitor but if you look them up mostly guitar enthusiast use them are more known for electronic use than speaker use... and people who use them in speakers coin them as very bright and brittle and are very picky with the tweeter you put them with...

So I think the Clarity Caps will really compliment the tweeters.

Everything really opened up by replacing the resistors and putting the Clarity Cap SA series on the woofer network

I am converting these to external crossovers...

The tweeter network will be in one box, the woofer in another...

2 boxes would be overkill. A single box would work fine as long as all your coils are orientated correctly: http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/coils.htm

I know its overkill lol - I went with two because I found two boxes at 5 bucks a pop, the ones that would house everything was way to much lol

Between the SA caps, the resistors, the MR caps, the binding post to do this, the extra wire, the boxes.... can you OUCH

You can do better than that; make your own boxes.

I dont have the time to make my own boxes lol

I just ordered some hand made cigar boxes that are unfinished for the woofer network and I got a plastic smaller one for the tweeter....

The woofer network has 3 inductors I want to make sure they have adequate space...

    Will do George...

Swap out those resistors - it really sparks new life into those speakers, not to mention getting rid of those crappy caps lol

Parts list that is on the way

    1) Clarity Cap MR for tweeters
    2) 40 Ft of DH Labs wiring
    3) Binding Post for the enclosures - in and out per box
    4) Enclosures for the crossovers
    5) Misc resistors (Eagle and Mundorf to adjust the tweeter - then will order the correct value in a Duelund...
    6) Rubber dampening feet for the enclosures

This is going to be fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm thinking of starting(possibly) with the Taylos Reference Monitors,, they have a Hovland cap in line with the tweeter,,,but a couple of Bennics and two (to be determined) resistors elsewhere,,supposedly they are not critical,,however an upgrade could not hurt,,at least in my mind,,I need to investigate further,,thats why I'm interested in your work.Unfortunately,,I would have to order 10 of the MR series to get a 5 uf value(custom,,according to the dealer).Keep us posted, please sir--best of luck.
