Netflix Poll

I was thinking about this the other day and thought about starting a poll.
This poll is for Netflix user who use there mail service.

The question is: How many times have you ended up with a broken disk due to there flimsy looking mailer.

You have to set it up as a poll for it to be a poll. ;)

I've received literally hundreds of discs from them, and have had only one broken disc. Ironically, I've had more broken discs out of a few dozen RedBox discs that comes in the hard shell...probably 3 or 4 out of maybe 50.

I mostly stream everything to the TV but of the 30-40 actual discs I've received I've not had a single cracked disc and only 1 had a small issue with playback that never caused the movie to stop or freeze.

When I rented from the local video store a few years ago (before Netflix) it was about 50/50 whether the disc would play all the way through.

I've never received a "broken" where it was actually cracked. I have however had about 4 or 5 in the 300+ I've gotten that have been scratched so badly you miss big parts of the movie during playback. My most recent experience was a copy of Avatar that looked brand new... no fingerprints or anything on it and it simply wouldn't play in any of my players. We reported it damaged and a new one was shipped that fired up just fine.

I've received 1 severely cracked disc and 1 unplayable for an unknown reason (had the new disc 2 days later both times and both worked.. I've probably received well over 100 discs from netflix.. so technically my percentage is <2%, probably not <1% =)

Netflix is awsome for finding rare movies you would never get a chanced to see unless you paid for them

Never had a broken disc, and only one scratched disc that had to be exchanged. I was on the two at a time plan at the time (pre-streaming) and the extra couple days delay was not a major issue.

P.S. -- DVD and Blu-Ray Discs are incredibly flexible. The only way they're really going to crack is if they're brittle (cold) and something gets dropped on them.

I'd be very surprised to hear of anyone having a major issue with broken DVDs or Blu-Rays from any mail service.

Well I've not really come across broken ones but I did vote 1%. Mostly they do need to be cleaned or else the lazer locks up.

I have had one broken disc. Most are in excellent condition with few scratches. Many need to be cleaned. Netflix will ship the replacement out without receiving back the broken disc so less than 2 days are usually lost if you happen to have a damaged disk.

I have had some disks that didn't arrive. I live in a long line of similar 4 plex's, and so I believe they have ended up at neighbor's houses. I just report as missing and a new disk is sent. Usually within one week I get a notification from Netflix that the missing disk has shown up! I guess wherever they go, after watching they end up getting returned. I live 100 miles away from the nearest video rental. Netflix Rocks!

^^^^ I live very close to a Netflix distribution center and have had the same experience (except for the broken disc) it's amazing how they mail it on any day and I received it the next including ones that were lost in the mail.

I love that outfit. Great Customer Service too!

I joined Netflix in 1999 when I bought my first DVD player, and it came with a coupon for 10 free rentals. In those days the contract was 4 DVDs a month for around $20, but they later cut it back to 3 a month.

Also, back then they were going through an experimental stage with different types of mailers ranging from hard cardboard to the current paper envelope. Personally, I have not had a broken DVD, or an incorrect DVD, for maybe 5 years now.

There was a period right before my current good run started where I was either getting a broken DVD, or not what I ordered, even though the sleeve was correct. I quickly learned to inspect the DVD as soon as I received it so I could send it back ASAP.

I really got pissed one night when I put a DVD in and some BS movie started playing. I told them if it happened one more time I was quitting and going to Blockbuster. They gave me 2 months of free rentals, and I have not had a problem since.

This is what I love about CP, you ask a simple honest question and get a boot load of honest answer's.

I think you guys have talked me into giving Netflix a try. The only reason i asked the question was because I'm a BIG movie freak (I'm pushing over the 500 DVDs mark) and my cable company (coughcomcrapcough) has crappy service and is getting obscenely expensive.

So thanks a bunch guys you have all come through for me again. :)
