Lou Reed Wont Let Boyle Sing His Song

Snow,
Lmao " Now your trying to make me look like a bad guy for not berating Lou for his actions"
I asked if you were cynical, Snow, that's all. No one's tried to make you look any way.
I'm serious. There's no double hand here, I've tried to speak with you on the subject. I was surprised by your take on Boyle, so I asked if you were cynical.
I don't want you to berate Lou for his actions. I don't need to be agreed with. I'm hoping you don't either. You had a different take on this. That's all.
"And I said what I said about your description of Lou because as far as im concerned it isnt relevant to the main point which was his refusal to allow her to sing his song."
And I appreciated hearing this.
The poster who thought TMZ was hardly trustworthy has it right.
All the way through this thread at the back of my mind I wondered if another shoe would drop.
We wouldn't have a thread if everyone agreed.
And Snow? I don't want Boyle to 'grow up' as you said. (not that I'm concerned with her) I'm glad she's not like everyone in the music industry.

Rev Hayes;
"You all seem to be saying that he will suffer as a result but.........".
That isn't my take on this- I think he's already been 'punished'. That's not the face of a happy man.
You're right about the sales and publicity. Boyle looks much happier than Reed.
The two pictures, side by side, said a lot.
Does anyone know for certain now if TMZ got the story wrong?
OK, CBS reports- (if I can believe them)
I have a question for the audiophiles here; How long is a copyrighted song out of reach for another singer? -

Snow, no kidding, the overall general knowledge of this forum is about the highest I've ever seen on the web. Doesn't surprise me at all you know the DSM lV
Go to electronics, they're pulling the guts out of amps and reassembling them- they know STUFF.
Go to Movies- they're discussing sub genres of film in the last 30 years and know actors, directors, writers, artists and the kid who brought the burgers in from down the street. They know STUFF.
Go to Speakers- they're reproducing the first known speaker using a water buffalo hide and a bone skull...they know STUFF
Snow, I don't know the DSM lV. It was the DSM lll when I read it. That's tells you how long ago I was a counselor. You've a good eye. Or Ear... Well done. -

I think Reed is just petty enough to NOT want a true, natural talent, to flourish and succeed. Not only succeed, but knock 'em dead. Overnight. Something that with all the hype, hooplah, and ****, Mr. No-Talent has been trying to pull off for 40 odd years now, with a minimum of success. Knock 'em dead Mr. Reed? Not in a million years. Rock ODDITY? Yes.
He's a jealous punk, with quite an ugly countenance.
I'm not a big fan of hers either. But I am a big fan of seeing millions of people made happy. Mr. Reed is not a fan of that. -
I could care less about all this. I thought Lou Reed sucked back in the day and I'm even more convinced of it now. I do thank him for penning "Sweet Jane"...as long as only Mott The Hoople performs it. Of course that is totally offset by "Take A Walk On The Wild Side"...which is total crap...and like fingers on a blackboard every time I hear it.
As far as Boyle is concerned...(I don't watch any of the reality "talent" shows)...from the snippets I've heard of her, she may have the best voice of any of those that have covered "Perfect Day". Maybe therein lies the rub. Maybe if she were to sing it, even more people will realize just how bad of a singer he was/is.
Either way...I don't care. I just think the whole thing is funny...plus it was a good opportunity to bash Reed."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

All I know is that Lou Reed sucks BIG and FLAT out SUCKS! That's all!Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin:

uh....messiah, those aren't man ****. Susan Boyle is a woman.
Snow,
Life was OK, until I actually clicked on the thumbnail sketch....Had it REMAINED the size of a postage stamp....
"But I am a big fan of seeing millions of people made happy. Mr. Reed is not a fan of that." George Grand
That's it- music should be heard- music made available everywhere. They wanted to hear Boyle sing Perfect Day- let them hear.
I'm not convinced CBS got the story right. maybe they did, but that also sounded a lot like cover was being provided by the music industry to their franchise star.
shack- have you heard the Cowboy Junkies version of Sweet Jane? -

Yes. Mott The Hoople's is better."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

"Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago." - Bernard Berenson -
OK. Then I'll have to hear that some time. I remember Mott the Hoople, but haven't heard them in years.
I'm in a minority here, because I thought Lou Reed did some fine work. He did a lot of shlock, too. -
This thread is all kinds of awesome.
Doro, I know that similar requests have been asked and denied before, but I really think there's a critical mass here that'll support the creation of a "Lou Reed sucks" subforum here. Talk to your peeps, use your enviable connections and make it happen!
I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who's posted in this thread (excluding this worthless contribution by me!) for a good chuckle. Politicians can't get a mandate, but we've got one here at good old Club Polk! All I need for total happiness is one more apoplectic explosion by Zombie Boy.

I think you and I are the only ones thus far who have posted that think he did do some fine work but you are correct about shlock. One LP I can think of that was pure crap was "Berlin!" but many, many other bands who are really great put out a clunker or two also.
Although he's done some fine work he was and now still is a jackass. However there are many, many artists who are too. Love the music, hate their BS.
Hahaha I just remembered I didn't even buy "Berlin." I won it on the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ.
Whoops I just noticed Willow is also a part of our minority! As the latest member of our minority Bro I'd like to welcome!:D
I have a copy of Reed performing "Sweet Jane" live. His guitar intro is five minutes long and it is absolutely awesome.
Steve, I love "take a walk on the wild side" the bass in that is really a bass lover's dream. -
Never been a avid fan nor hater of his music.
You could use Metal Machine Music as a good album for burning in new equipment, though, as long as you're not in the same room!
I've always been a big fan of his wife's music, though.cristo

Jesus. I woke up this morning and realized Lou Reed was probably singing in the shower... or making an egg and bacon sammie... or kicking a puppy... or just breathing heavily.
It annoyed me. So I hit the snooze alarm.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. You need a rock band. You're writing pure poetry.
Hearingimpaired- Berlin was one of Reed's attempts to do a masterpiece. He was angry the critics didn't see it his way, but many thought it came close to being one.
I always liked the Blue Mask, one of the songs is about as close to an explanation of the DT's as any rock song ever was; an interpretation that was spot on. Based on experience, I assume.
I liked the banana album and songs for drella
Someone here must like the New York album
Zombie Boy, I'll be putting a Reed CD on later today- let me know if you can hear it. -
I always considered Lou Reed the other John Lennon...
 NOT!!!! -

I'll assume you're playing it at this very moment. I can't say that I hear it. I can say that my ears are vomiting blood.

Write a story, write something. Is 'sir' normally capitalized? If it is then I was not provided the appropriate sir. -

I think if it came to listening to Lou Reed singing or the Teletubbies talking......god help me I would roll with the Teletubbies. I'm not saying I'd be happy with it, but lesser of 2 evils here.
