Budget? Polks only? A few boundaries would help...

As said earlier the simplest choice, and a fairly economical one, for the second pair would be two more 2000's off ebay or wherever. Co-located they should combine with your existing pair and give you a 6 dB bump. And the Sunfire will not mind their combined 4-ohm load.

I was thinking the same thing... maybe Polk isn't the way to go for the volumes you're talking about.

Try Cerwin-Vega or Klipsch. I believe the place you want to be leaves sonic accuracy and detail far behind. You need something that will scream.

    15" woofer, 102dB sensitivity

    http://www.cerwinvega.com/products/homeaudiovideo/eseries/e_frameset_center.html

You could also try moving your listening room to a combine.

    Check out that port...

The Klipsch, as Burdette mentioned, crank out some high volume.

I remember a friend who had the little ones, Heresy or something and he would play them so loud it was downright uncomfortable to be in the room. That was years ago, and the speakers are still alive.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

my polks easily play loud enough to make it uncomfortable to be in the room, u must be blasting it beyong blasting lol

i can't imagine what it would be like to be in that room, my neighboors that live 2 houses away can hear all the lyrics to the music im playin and the bass vibrated a computer desk of mine apart lol.

are you trying to hear music while you are hm maybe cutting down trees, or mowing the lawn? lol

you might wanna look into the speakers DJs use, they play loud and can handle high power, not suggested for home theater use but if ur just lookin to rock the house then maybe u should get those. u know what i mean right? like speakers ud see in a club, im sure u wont find ne polk towers at a club lol. worth a try.

or maybe u have small green creatures living in ur speakers that are purposely breaking ur drivers because they dont like it that loud? i had this problem, some raid got rid of them.

    have fun.

    Do they keep the integrity????

And as for you Mr. Burdette:

I happen to farm soybeans, and I do have a combine, smartass. Guess what's in it??? Some Polk Components (EX3560's to be exact, w/ a 60 wpc Alpine pushing 'em)

    Mantis:

Now thats the kinda **** I'm talkin' 'bout. Who the hell cares if I can hear at 70 yrs. old. It would be nice not to have to tell her "AW, SHUT THE F*CK UP ALREADY, WOULD YA!!!!" anymore.....

    HUH??? (36 now)

    No dude,

I just live in a big, old house. This ain't no 1200 sq. ft. rancher. I added an addition to the house in '96. brought the sq. ft. up to 4500. Well, when i did the addition, i let the ol lady talk me into set up a tv room in the downstairs ( 1 st floor).

Since then I've been bitten by the sound bug. I always liked it loud, but now I'm striving for clarity and quality.

I don't want to come off as though the only defining factor is volume. It used to be, but not now. But when I'm in the kitchen, I'm working, creating, and I like to jam while I'm doing it.

I am trying to set up a system that I can enjoy both with the kids watching Jurassic Park, yet can kick my **** when I feel like kickin it live.

I have to draw the line at one room. All the Plaster is original, and a whole house system in my place would be cost prohibitive.

She don't know it yet, but she might just have to move her formal living room someplace else, 'cause it's the most centrally located room in the house.

don't take what I'm saying literally, it's just sometimes you have to become a jerk off to talk to a jerk off...

Bub, I am not a jerk off, I am going by the way you talk - Wild and Out of Control, I am 14 - and Don't possibly talk like that. I love loud, and I love *sound*. I figured you were an 18 yr old **** wanting to shake the plaster all day. Turns out your 36. Your very nieive though. Not caring if you go deaf. Sad. God speed to you, Klipsch is right up you alley. Jerk off to jerk off that is. ;)

I gave you advice bub. Turn the speakers down.

Buy Klipsch. They are FINE speakers. They are very clear, and crisp and VERY detailed. Infact, their 98db Nominal. If you want to go old style, get the Klipsch Chorus. AWESOME speaker. 102db Nominal. 15 inch woofer, compression midrange. Horn tweet. 100 watts continuous. 1000 watts max. Can you say...BLOCK PARTY?? By the way, I was being sarcastic - If you read my posts, I am very sarcastic all the time. Its my posting style. Sorry if I came off rude. Note the ;) at the end.

Your Welcome, anytime. Enjoy. My Dad owns these speakers. He runs them with a Yamaha 300 watt 2 channel SS amp. He gets about 115db out of these alone.

Hey get yourself some klipsch la scalas ( folded horn ) I had a friend that has since passed away that had some connected to a phase linear amp and I mean to tell you that damn system would rock your world, but also had a great sound at low volume and you do not need a lot of watts to drive them to a frenzy either......just my 2cw.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Alright, everybody take a deep breath and relax.

Amulford, if you truly want clarity and quality may I suggest upgrading your speakers to the LSi series or even better get some used SDA SRS 1.2TL's, which will handle 1000 clean watts. Then grab a top of the line SACD/CD player such as the Sony XA777ES or XA9000ES, perhaps a Marantz SA-14. Then upgrade all your IC's and speaker wires to the best you can afford, look at MIT, Transparent, Acoustic Zen and Kimber. Don't forget to upgrade the power cords, add a dedicated 20 amp line or two and a power conditioner. Your Sunfire will do just fine. Now, you are starting to enter the world of hi-fi. You will find that you're going to hear the music for the first time, but take it from a 46 year old......you will want your hearing ten years from now because the more you upgrade the better the music gets.

    You can try...

I wonder if anyone has ever unsubscribed to a thread they started?

    amulford,
F1 made some nice Polk suggestions. The old SDA flagships are all awesome speakers you'd be proud to own and push... But even your Ultimate would be a tad light for them IMO.

Anyway whatever you choose to do, good luck in your search... and keep the beans coming... BTW, ever use "Bravo"? I used to make it... best contact fungicide in the world...

I prefer intelligent ****.. or perhaps educated ****. Can't tell if you're offended or kidding.. but I was most certainly kidding.... which is why my honest recommendation of CV or Klipsch was first in my post. I grew up in corn, soybean, cattle and hog land... no disrespect intended regarding your occupation. I may have walked your family's beans when I was young.

Sort of a strange metaphysial thing that I recommended a combine and you own a combine!

Hello Gentleman (and I use that term Very Loosely):

I have found this thread to be very informative. As a matter of fact, with my new found hobby, it is a great relief to find a reliable resource to get answers. I do have so many questions.

Please understand that although I do enjoy music at an elevated
dbl at times, it is not a constant.

I have been browsing thru these forums for some time now, and i agree that I have much to learn about my new found passion....

    Mr. Burdette:

Actually I only farm part time, thus the soybeans. By trade I am a union pipefitter (thus my affinty for things made in the USA). It is a strange coincidence though, huh?

    Tour:

Never tried bravo, but we are having one hell of a wet year and I am concerned, where can i get some info?

I was looking at some SDA's and some Klipsch's last night on ebay. Sadly my pockets are not deep enough at this point, for I just laid out a few sheckels on the Sunfire. the coffers will be filling soon enough.

    amulford,
    Here's the Bravo info.
    http://www.syngentacropprotection-us.com/prod/fungicide/bravo/
Product is superior to generics out there. Bravo Weatherstik is the "flagship" product, but 500 is very good as well and actually has slightly better shelf life.
However, Bravo does not address soil born diseases. For that you'll need a combo product.
Consult your local extension agent for more info as well.
