Tweeter Height

How much does this affect listening? I've always heard that tweeters should be near ear height. The Lsi's were almost 50 inches tall, the tweeters being slightly higher than my ears. My new speakers are 34", the tweeters are significantly lower than ear height. Would they benefit any from being raised, or was the speaker purposely designed this way?

Try it and hear for yourself.

Maybe try something a bit more logical and sit at different heights? The human ear is the most important part of any system!

Lol good point. It is a bit hard to sit low enough though. I'll see if I have a crate or something

I prefer tweeters slightly higher. In my set up, when I have the tweets slightly above ear level, I get a taller and bigger soundscape. But that's just me. Other's have their preferences.

Try it and see what you prefer.

It's recommended tweeters are ear-level, or at least 6 inches above or below the ear of your seating position. Whether you want them slightly higher or lower though will be your preference.

    Just a guideline though ;)

If your floor is carpeted, you can lift the speakers by placing floor tiles where the speakers sit, then set the speakers on the tiles. This also tightens bass. My speakers are always setup this way. This will net you about 1"-1.5" more height as well.

Here's my speaks on tile, the tiles are 18" x 18":

I thought this thread question was very good; Polk sells the LSi15 and 25 as being most accurate musically- and the tweeters were situated high.

+1 on what Freddy said. Distance from the speaker has a part to play as well though. The farther you get away, the less it seems to matter.

Let's not forget about "angling" the speakers up a few degrees in the front of the cabinet like Polk did with the Monitor series stands. It's a cheap and effective way to get the HF to ear levels. I do it with a fervor everytime I switch speakers IF needed. It still works.

    Yes ,
This is good advise. It's what I do with every single lower then ear level speakers I do. I also think it producing a bigger sound stage and more focused Imaging.

Proper setup of the front channels is key.

I see Mega buck speakers now with RTA, Mr. Polk was simply ahead of the game.
