That car could've had anywhere from a 2.5 to a 5.0 in it (or more if non-factory). If it was the 5.0, I'm sure it could've toasted the factory brakes before it stopped if the throttle was stuck open. A valid excuse for a Toyota driver... no... for a 5.0 driver.... yes.

That's more a function of the terrible brakes that will likely be on a 3rd gen F-body owned by a 19 year old kid, rather than the "huge" power that a weak-**** 305 makes. :p

There's a big difference between doing stupid stuff and deadly stuff, and putting the lives of others at risk. What this kid did goes way beyond stupid.

Apparently those who have prejudged are likely right on:
BEAVERCREEK, Ohio -- Beavercreek police released 19-year-old Brennan Eden of Mason from custody roughly 20 minutes before he sped down Interstate 675 on Monday morning, hit a culvert, and launched his Pontiac Firebird into the Wagner Road overpass, according to a Dayton Daily News report.

The force of the crash broke the car apart and ejected Eden onto the highway during the morning rush hour. He remains at Miami Valley Hospital after suffering serious injuries. The crash closed the southbound lanes of I-675 for five hours on Monday, Aug. 23.

Crash investigators with the Xenia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol have not determined the specific cause of the accident or if alcohol or drugs played a role.

Beavercreek police said Tuesday that they had arrested Eden at 6:13 a.m. Monday on charges including possession of alcohol, drug paraphernalia and drug abuse after he was found with a girl in the parking lot near the corner of Beaver Vu Drive and North Fairfield Road. The officer found an unopened can of alcohol, a trace of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the car.

The girl was released to her father. Eden was cited, given a court summons and released.

Police said Eden was cooperative and there were no indications of him being under the influence. He was not tested for alcohol or drugs because his condition did not warrant testing, said police.

In November 2009, Eden was cited by the Ohio State Highway Patrol for driving 90 mph in an 65 mph zone, according to records filed in the Fairborn Municipal Court.

A message left on a relative's answering service asked callers to continue to prayer for Eden, a 2009 Mason High School graduate.

...and I'm willing to BET, that if he'd crossed over, hit an on coming car and killed someone that the majority of the comments in the thread about this kid would have gone a very different direction.

Yes, looks like the kid already has some "experience". Hope he gets out of this one.

Just for the records, I still stand by my previous comments. We all did some stupid things when we were young (except Ron of course).

Maybe this explains his taste when it comes to movies.

Hahaha, good one Ricardo. I've done stupid things too, just nothing deadly or putting others lives at risk. Like I said, stuff like that, and like this kid did, goes way beyond stupid.

That was f'ing awesome! If he does survive maybe he'll pay more attention when driving.

I don't find it "awesome" at all. It's horrifying. This is one of the reasons I don't like Youtube. That was a real person with family just like you. Was what he was doing stupid? Yes. But who here has never done something stupid? It was endangering the lives of others around him on the freeway but who here has never speeded with others in the car or weaved in and out of traffic? He who is without sin...let him cast the first stone. Way too much of this stuff on the news and Youtube de-sensitizes people and we forget that these "awesome" videos are real. Real people in real situations with family and friends. How "awesome" would you think it was if it was your brother or best friend? Then you would hate that video and think it insensitive for it to posted on Youtube on the the Channel 5 News.

To be fair, there are varying degrees of stupid. Drinking too much and making an **** of yourself in front of friends is worlds apart from getting behind the wheel of a car while blasted (if that's the case here, which seems more and more likely).

Yes, it's sad. But I'll bet most of us here have never driven like that on a crowded freeway, or any crowded road for that matter. We,ve all done stupid things, but not THAT stupid.

I feel bad for the kid's family as much as anything else. He's not old enough to make an intelligent decision, and it's going to hurt his parents more than anyone in the long run.

I may not have sped like that, but I used to drive fairly well in the bag years ago in my wilder years. When you're late teens/ early 20's, you sort of feel invincible; at least I did. Fear was a foreign word to us back then....

Either way, I hate this happened....could of been me or a friend 10-15 years ago.

And for the record I don't drink at all anymore.

This comment has promped me to reflect on my youth in a vain attempt to find stupid things I did in my youth...

    1. Drugs.... nope, not even one time.
    2. Excessive drinking... nope, never ever been drunk enough that I puked or passed out.
    3. Driving at incredibly dangerous speeds... nope
    4. Smoking of anything... nope
    5. anything else that would constitute stupid in the minds of reasonable people(joining CP excepted:eek::p)... nope

Would I be a perfect role model? Of course not, because I did make more than my share of mistakes. They just happen not to be the kind that would have placed my life or the lives of others at risk. I guess I don't know what i missed out on.:)

    WOW.

I can't believe he didn't land on another car in his own lane too. Just insane and I hope he makes it, as I can't believe how anyone could survive a crash like that.

Some people I knew in high school died in collisions.
    1) Driving at night down the highway, veered across the line into a semi. Dead on Impact. One of the nicest people I've ever met. Wasn't known to party.
    2) Driving at night down a straight country road. Didn't stop at the end where it intersects another road, went straight into a tree, died in hospital. Guy was a cocky jock who partied all the time.
    3) Driving down the highway in winter, dinner time, on a slight curve, went off the road into a light-post on the inside of the curve. Seemed like an alright guy. Didn't party that much, had friends from all the different cliques.

Out of the three, which were caused by stupidity, which were fluke accidents, and which put innocent lives in danger?

Regardless of how much or how little information the press gives us, there is no way to know, until the cause is known. It is one thing to suspect, it is another to judge and hope 'he gets what is coming to him.' Just sayin'

I've known people who have died on the road from being idiots, from fluke accidents, and as innocent victims from someone doing something stupid. I can understand the ease and desire to instantly assume the driver who causes any accident was being an idiot, especially when considering how the number of idiot drivers is increasing exponentially, but isn't still better to reserve conviction and sentencing until as much information as possible is available?

My group was a little crazier than most. I remember Rick Lloyd had this green Chevelle, complete with 8 track tape deck.

We used to fly down Fenton Rd at about 50-60 mph. I used to climb out the passenger window onto the hood. Looking back, I'm not even sure how I did it. But it was just something most of us in the group did from time to time.:eek:

Then Rick would start weaving around trying to throw me off. I had my butt firmly planted to the windshield and both hands tucked under the hood, palms up, so I was pretty hard to toss off. :D:D

Pretty crazy stuff. I have some other stories but don't want to get arrested. :p:p
