I always thought "The Abyss" (1989) was truly great; outstanding acting & the special effects were YEARS ahead of their time.

Also, the surround sound for this movie was fantastic.

The original Terminator was suprisingly good for an early 80's movie. Loved the gloomy feeling pervasive throughout the movie, and it scared the beejezus out of me as a kid...

+1 for Die Hard. I also dig Apocalypse Now.

Kids made me say wow, but it was more like "Wow, that's messed up!" That was the beginning of my unrequited love affair with Chloe Sevigny, but even still... not sure I could sit through it again.

Most of the old Hitchcock films. Simple effects, but all the little
stuff is done right. "In Cold Blood" is also right up there. Real
    storytellers are a dying breed.

Nothing came right to mind, but after reading through these posts, I have to agree with Die Hard. What an awesome movie, even though I must have seen it 30 times. Anytime it's on, I have to watch it.

That's the truth. That was one of those "my parents say I can't watch it so I will" movies that I ended up regretting going behind their back on...

I'd have to add the Magnificent 7 to my list. I know it's a western remake of 7 Samurai, but what an amazing cast.

I guess any movie that for any reason you simply still think is awesome. Some great movies have been mentioned thus far!

If this is the case, why does it have to be 20 years? were there not that many great movies before that time? (Rhetorical question, please don't actually answer :p)

Sorry that I'm the **** of the group, I just found it more interesting to look at the special effects to see if they held the test of time. Most interesting and enjoyable movies with a great story will always hold up no matter how old it is.

Sorry for the "possible" derail. carry on;)
