Lots of Dickheads Here

Why are there so many dickheads on this forum?

I mean....I just came here like a month or so ago and I've talked to quite a few nice people, but there is so much cynicism and **** that goes on here as well. I just wondered if I was the only one who noticed.

From a person on the outside looking in I can tell you that this place can be very uninviting. I don't take much personally so it doesn't bother me that much...it's more of a minor annoyance.

I hope you're not referring to my post about the french comment you made in the other thread, you brought that comment on yourself man. You personally attacked my french heritage. I wasn't a dick about it either, I allowed you to justify what you said and you never did.

Stick around a little longer, maybe you'll get to know a few people in here a little better and figure out who's who. You've only been around for a month.

    Demiurge,
I think I read some were else that you are 23 years old. Well let me tell you few thing young buck. Life is **** and the way we deal with it is cynicism. This place reflect that well, but it also has a few other things going for it. Like friendships, knowledge, and understanding. There are lots of jabs here, but that is the charm of the place. I think if you stick around you will learn more then audio here, and it could help you deal with a lot more rough characters then here.

    OK,
I have been around longer then all of you.I have seen people come and go.Alot of good people nonetheless, some needed to go.....

Dickheads....well I can't argue that.We do have a couple of them.I could be classified as one myself.Maybe maybe not.

As a newer member to come forward and speak what he sees should be respected.Attacking him back I don't feel is needed.

I get along with pretty much everyone except maybe 2 or 3 of you.You know exactly who you are.

It's funny though......Some turn into online friends, some stay at war with you no matter what. The comment about life is really not trivial.Yeah we all have are ups and downs.Life wouldn't be life without I assume........

But this place is an audio forum. Some of you made it out to be alot more...so be it.

What really can be said about these comments....you know if your a dickhead or not.Treat people the way you wanna be treated......Respect I feel is lost alot.

I have a point but really don't know how I want to come across with it.........so I'll just say..Yes there are some dickheads in here, but there are alot of great people in here as well.

yeah a few of them just chimed in (evil smile :D ) Kidding..... lets not start a big dickhead threads all calling people out and mentioning people in a not so upfront way, mantis we know you dispise 2 people, MX we know you don't care for atleast 3 people.. I have problems also and got over it finally.. Lets end this one before 8 pages.. He was upset at the French comment and that is what i think he is talking about.. rightfully so

so lets not all chime in stating how many people we don't like, can't we all just get along?? ;):)

So change the channel or voice your concerns at the time. Don't make a blanket statement like that without stepping up. Sometimes people are in the wrong, sometimes what they post is perceived to be in the wrong, othertimes people are in the wrong to people that have wronged them.

    So what's wrong?

    My feelings are hurt.....

It's concievable that you could lump me in that category. I tend to be short fused and if I have something to say, I usually don't refrain.

However, I feel inclined to point out a few things. As with any group of people from diverse backgrounds, personality clashes are all but inevitable. And if you want to be offended, I'm sure you can find something in here to satisfy that wish.

When the chips are down though, there are a GREAT bunch of guys on this forum. When one of our members passed away, RuSsMan took the lead on making sure that we contacted his family to express our collective sorrow. He also lead the charge taking up donations for all the flowers for the funeral (at a time when he could ill afford it). When a Flea Market deal goes bad or a brother is in need (such as when Bob McGowan's Carver amp was stolen and put up on ebay), there is a certain cadre of forum members who are always looking to lend a hand in anyway they can be it offering to take up a collection of money, making phone calls or however possible. A LOT of new folks get a LOT of good advice and I feel for the most part are welcomed with open arms.

From a personal standpoint, I have forum members like Russ and George Grand help me out with obtaining gear when I got started, GREAT gear, in some cases just GIVING it away just to help a brother out. I've been fortunate enough to welcome forum members into my home and when my travels have taken me in the vicinity, I've been welcomed into the homes of other forum members. In my current situation, deployed to the Persian Gulf for the last 5 months, I can't begin to count the number of emails I've received from forum members expressing thier good wishes and offers of support. Guys like Russ and HBomb have sent me care packages. Russ has sent gear (at his expense, refusing any payment) so we could have a couple of modest audio rigs to enjoy and fly the Polk banner over here. DrSpec, sent us a TON of Genny Beer banners, posters and so forth to give us a taste of home. madmax, being the stellar guy he is sent me a videocamera so that I (and the other troops) can make video tapes to send home to our families. Guys like Tour and F1 and rlw are constantly sending me emails, cds and so forth. The lovely Wendi said she had to go pick up some Lucky Strikes and pistachios so I'm thinking that George Grand is taking care of things at home for me (ha ha!). I've literally got a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes just thinking of all the support I get from the fourm. So, yes, I take the forum personally, some of these guys, I think of as family. Maybe you can't pick that up in a month but stick around long enough and you just might.

I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention the guys at Polk, Micah who has been a real stand up guy and who was a PLEASURE to meet at Polk HQ, Ken who has gone above and BEYOND to help and make things work like new again, Paul who was a pleasure to meet and the rest of the gang at Polk who makes the forum and furthers our obsession

You guys (even Dan who I think deep down is a good person even though I disagree with 99% of what he says) ROCK!

Great post Troy, there has been so much crap going on here that I think it's starting to bleed all over. I know a few months ago things got a little hairy and we had a few posts like this. I think we should all take the effort to get back to the fun place this can be, because I've gained a lot from you guys. In fact my first argument in this forum was with you Troyd, about biwiring RT1000is. I thought you were a jackass. ;) Just goes to show what a little time and posting can heal.

heh, sorry for making this thread....

and no it wasn't anything towards the person who thought this was personal. I think making light hearted jokes and being a complete dick are 2 different things.

Again, sorry I made this topic. I was just reading some threads and felt the need to comment.

All do respect....your apology is accepted. However if you have the need to call people dickheads or any other name. Please refrain from spreading your knowlage all over the boards - it comes off rude and makes you sound like a dickhead yourself. My advice, E-Mail the dude you feel the need to dick with. My 2 cents, Its almost 5 am -- it may sound rude.....but at 5 am.......what do you expect?? Thats my advice, once again apology accepted.

    Demiurge,

I didn't really think it was directed to me, personally and I have pretty thick skin so no worries. I was just trying to explain what the forum is about to somone who may not understand....

    Dan,

I've never said we can't coexist peacefully. If you will note, I don't believe I've ever called you a name or cursed you personally and I've never gone out of my way, for the most part to start a shitstorm. I have said what I think of your ideas, opinions and posts. Just because I don't particularly like a person or thier ideas doesn't mean they are a bad person. Be that as it may, as I said, if you poke me with a stick don't be surprised what comes your way. Let's just leave it at that.

Good thread Demi... always helps to clear the air every once in a while. And this is posted in the proper area as the entry warning clearly states, “put on your flamesuit…”. A lot of the time it seems to me that posters in “Off Topic” never bother to read that.

As for the rest of the forum… friction almost always arises from two things: disputes over facts and the degree to which a poster holds his opinions as gospel. In other words, it is just like the real world.

    TroyD,

Nice man.... very nice. This forum brings us together in one place to discuss what we love more than anything audio, music, electronics, Polk Audio... etc.

I don't know of any other forum which does this by any manufactuer that has this high level of participation. It's to the credit of Polk Audio as a company, the people who work there and those of us in this forum that support them, that makes this forum work.

Thanks for reminding us what a good hearted group of guys (and some ladies too) are on here.
