Ever had a bad beer?

So my wife calls me a 'beer snob' cuz when I go to BevMo I'm always coming home with some strange new beer.

Hey - I like variety and want to try new brews.

Sometimes I find a beer that I really like.

Sometimes, the selection is so off the wall or 'special' that it goes on my 'won't buy that ever again' list.

Ever buy one of those?

My favorite brew is a good Porter - one that never lets me down is Fuller's London Porter.

So, I tried a new Porter today - Payback Porter.

Echhhh...tasted liked aged black electrical tape wrapped around a dirty frayed power cord.

Wish they would pay me back for trying their beer...:(

I got a beer once that tasted like a dirty gym sock. I can't for the life of me remember what it was, it was something exotic over at Sunset in Allston.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Lmao you might be getting paid for something you did in a former life perhaps. I rarely drink, in fact I cant even remember the last time it's been so long, but I do remember buying a beer from New Zealand that was so friggin bitter that I could barely swallow the swill I believe I paid $5.00 for it which at the time was a lot of money and I was determined to drink every drop of it for this reason :p

    REGARDS SNOW
Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

For whatever reason, I can't stand Heineken or Becks. Maybe it has something to do with the green bottles, but I feel that both taste like skunk sweat.

I'm with Zombie on the green bottles. I've NEVER had a green bottled beer that didn't taste like a skunk's rear end.

I know about beers being light struck and whatnot, but there still seems to be a consistent pattern with those green bottles.

In my beer drinking days I came across lots of skunk, sour cheese, and nasty yeast beers.

My all time favorite is Pilsner Uquell!!! Great beer and the only true Pilsner.

+1 on beer snobbery! There's nothing wrong with refining one's tastes. ;)

That being said, if you like porters you should try Foothills People's Porter and Founders Porter. Smuttynose has a very good porter also - very dark, robust and has hints of chocolate and coffee. Cheers!

Now now....this thread is about *bad* beers! :D

[although, I would give a nod of approval to both of the Pils above]

you want a nasty tasting beer. Take miller, bud light, whatever cheap beer you have, and leave it sit in a garage for 2 years, in the heat of the summer and then the cold of the winter and then put it in the fridge for an hour and then drink it.

Yeah I did that and wanted to barf, most terrible beer in the world, I would rather drink ram's piss.

Funny you should say that. On my Birthday (I don't drink anymore) my son who is truly a snob of beer snobs got a 23 oz ice cold glass of Blue Moon and I took a swig, well a couple and I thought it was very good. It had a very nice aftertaste and was a good eatin beer.

    I got a few of orangutan piss beers for you oldtimers that really sucked;

Ballantine Ale- 4 quarts for $1, stunk out loud! Tasted like the above.

Ortlieb's Beer- take one packet of Fleschman's dried yeast and pour it in your mouth haaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Out of Pittsburgh- Iron City beer . . . UGH! Just the thought of it gives me a hangover.

I was at a "Tilted Kilt" in St Louis - quite the selection....of beer....tried a "Shock Top" - having no idea what that was.

Turned out it was a Belgian "White" from Anheuser-Busch.....not so good.

    Too fruity.....

Man law: "Don't Fruit the Beer"! :D:)

The day the Bavarian Purity Law for beer was repealed, I shed a tear in sadness.....

    you're kidding, right?

    Bass Ale?
New Castle Brown Ale?....two of my favorites.

And since you said Great Britain (not England), that would include Guiness?

The worst I can remember was Tuborg Gold from 1980. It was so bad we used it as target practice with a .22.

Right now I've become a fan of Blue Moon as well. Of course Fat Tire and Sam Adams is always on my favorite list.

    Tuborg Gold

I remember that from my beer can collecting days.

For the record I stick with the mass produced lite beer. The only fancy beer I like is a Blue Moon in the winter with dinner or in front of a fire.
