Okay, I haven't read much about this one, but judging from the myspace promo photo thing, it's going to be lame.

http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.viewcustom&friendId=171184815&blogId=537114926&swapped=true#pm_cmp_con_ent_ftop_tp_thorblog

Odin is not Santa Claus! There's a comment from me in there somewhere to that effect. I'm alright with Thor and Loki being goofy ****, since they basically were, but Odin? Really?

I'll probably still go see it; hopefully it plays out much better than the photo would suggest.

New trailer, different details than the Super Bowl ad spot.

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/uHBnrJowBZE&quot; frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It'll probably get yanked down from YouTube though so see it while you can.

Personally, I've never been a fan of the whole Thor franchise. I always thought it was a stupid idea for a "super hero". Probably would have worked better as a graphic novel like Hellboy or Constantine, not a member of the Marvel Universe.

As silly as I think it is though, I gotta admit, this flick looks like a fun ride. I'll probably end up seeing it mostly because the GF is all excited about it.

I always loved the more "cosmic offerings" by Marvel when I was a kid. The Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, the Mighty Thor, Galactus, The Beyonder, Mephisto, The Watcher, etc etc...
It will be interesting to see what they do with this.

Not Marvel... but I'm still holding out for a Sandman offering. I think if Asgard is represented well here, there may just be hope for somehow capturing the Endless on the big screen.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Interesting Trailer. The GF wants to see it? Wow! I guess that's cool. My wife can't watch anything fantasy or Sci-fi related and my daughter has to be cajoled. Between the two of them there are almost four decades?

For full disclosure. I was a fan of Thor and all the others Zombie listed above. But I'm also interested in comparative religion and mythology among other things. And my ancestors had a bunch of gods that lived on a mountain?

Went to see the "straight" version this afternoon (no 3D for me). Good movie...didn't blow me away...but I can recommend it, so I give it a solid B. I will definitely watch it again when the DVD comes out.

I broke down and saw the 3D version. I liked this movie alot and it far exceeded my expectations! The 3D effects were very cool. Excellent casting as well.

Sit through to the very end of the credits for a definite setup to either Thor 2 or Avengers.

This is where the movie fails me most, the casting. The dude that plays Thor just looks, and acts (in the trailers) too girly. He just does not look like "the god of thunder". I dunno, just not impressed at all to bother with this one.

Saw this in IMAX 3D today on the full sized screen. I enjoyed it. 3D was excellent in some places, but as with most conversions there were places that it missed. I am glad I saw this in IMAX 3D though. As far as the plot...there's only so much time, so the romance was rushed. I can live with that. When Thor was in action, it was pretty awesome, I wish there had been more of it...let's just say that the God of Thunder when it's hammer time is visually very impressive. The back and forth Earth/Asgard scenes worked for me. Most of the humor is on the Earth side. It was a nice lead in to the Avengers, but since he'll be sharing time with the other supes there maybe be even less Thor in all his glory. I could have done with another half hour to continue with the story and maybe flesh out the relationship with NP, but we'll have to wait for more. This one is close to Iron Man, better the IM2, better than the Spidey's and the Xmen franchise 1 and 3...probably a wash with X2.

I didn't see it in 3D ('cause I can't), but other than that, I agree with just about everything Ron said. When Thor goes to Jodenheim and starts swinging Mjolnir, I was like, "DAAAAAAAAAAMN!" I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Actually, most agree that Hemsworth nailed it. What you see in the trailers are a few slices on Thor's moral journey. Starts out as an arrogant, entitled and reckless, basically kind of a punk, then through the story learns humility and becomes the character we expect. I'm not saying it's an epic story. This transformation is on a rail from point A to B, but Hemsworth did a good job.

We watched it last night and enjoyed it alot more than I thought we would. I love when people go see a movie like this and then complain about the plot. Really??? Its a comic book movie, wtf did you expect???

Visual effects are good, did feel a bit rushed and could have had more action, but overall I agree with shack's assessment, a solid B

Watched it tonight via RedBox, I'll be adding it to the collection. Good, solid flick.

My only gripe with the film was, what I like to call, the "George Lucas special effects", very cartoony. Compared to other Marvel films this one's effects were poorly done, not realistic at all. I sure hope this doesn't become a trend with Marvel.

Your bar is set pretty low then for what constitutes a good movie. I will agree on the B grade though. Better than I though it would be, but also not as good as I wanted it to be. Maybe it's me, but I compare all the Marvel flicks to the one I hold up there, Iron Man, the first one.

Saw it last night. OK but nothing great. I agree, some of the effects are too CGI. The problem with that is that the 'world' we live in is not always in pristine focus with 'perfect' lines. Take the architecture in Asgard: it looks like it was drawn by an artist not built by individuals.

Chris H. does really look like the quintessential Thor character though...good casting there. Natalie Portman is given a fairly brainless acting role and spends most of her Physicist time fawning over Thor--(not appropriate for an actress who, is obviously, capable of much more).

On the positive side...it is pretty good 'escapism' for a late weekend evening.

I'm still waiting, though, for the official Mike LoKeiko review! lol
