damn the guy has a 27"TV. Those things dwarf it. That is the goofiest looking setup. I'm sure it sounds great just strange looking with such a small tv.

That's no 27" TV, it's a 34" widescreen Panny if my eyes serve me right. IMHO, I think the guy has his priorties in order, 2 channel first, video second.

He dropped some cash on the system - either go all the way or just have an audio room. Really.....A weak moniter is an understatement....

I know you're into the 8 foot screen, but I'd hardly call his TV weak. Not everyone is into huge screens.

It is not about "being into huge screens". I am just giving my HT point of view - why have a small tv hooked to such a huge sound system. Like putting a weed eater moter on a crouch rocket. Big screens ARE HT. But once again I speak from a HT point of view - nothing personal.:)

With all do respect, it really isn't that small of a TV set (the avg. size in this country is 27") and obviously the guy isn't into HT. Why not send the TV sound though the SDA's, you know it's going to sound great. I have my SDA 2 channel rig (awesome) and TV (small) in the same room and I'm perfectly happy with it that way, but I am speaking from a 2 channel point of view. In my case it's part practicality and part priority, perhaps it's the same for him. You know those weed-eater motors turn some high rpms. ;)

Let me just jump on this for a minute,
With all do respect, it really isn't that small of a TV set (the avg. size in this country is 27")
I disagree, the average TV size now is 36.Today the 27 inch TV doesn't sell at all.Average TV purchase for a livingroom is 42.
Plasma is whats selling now. They go out every single day and getting stronger.Prices are down and sales are sky high.I can't remember the last time I saw a 27 inch TV in a family/living or theater room.I believe that was maybe 4 years ago or so...

Before the craze of the the Plasma kicked into high gear, most people would have a 36 or 40 inch Sony,or a 46 or 55 inch Mitsubishi.High Def rules TV purchases.34 inch HD sets sell here and there.Bigger is better. It's all about the video and little about the audio today. Most people are happy with a 42 inch Sony Plasma with a Home Theater in a box to go with it......unbalanced......of course but thats what people want.Generally speaking.

Audio people are becoming a rare breed. We do less and less of matching systems.Everyone wants a huge tv.The audio side for the most part isn't even hand selected.

    Dan,
I believe F1 is speaking to what the population has in their homes, where you are saying what people are buying. Apples and oranges...

No doubt the trend is towards bigger these days...

    Scott,
Nice to see you bud. Haven't crossed paths in forever it seems.

As for the thread's opening pic. I like the the look of the old hand crank victrola sitting on the far wall. Now that's vintage audio.... :D

    Dan,

Tour hit the nail on the head, more 27" TV's than anything else.
Most people (the majority) can't afford a 42" Plasma TV and (IMHO) once the rest of the population realizes that LCD and Plasma sets have a very short life span there are going to be some pissed off people. Now, as far as audio people becoming a rare breed. What are you talking about, at what level? A dedicated 2 channel rig may not be as popular as it once was, but audio is a part of most everyone's life. I think your comments come from living in a "Tweeter" world and not reality.

BTW, if you want to see a 27" TV in a living/family room I know a boatload of folks that have them and not one of them is poor, in fact quite the opposite.

the biggest TV in my house is a 24" sony trinitron then two 19" POS tvs and an 11" POS, it has nothing to do with money or space but just the fact that people around here dont really have the need or want for a huge TV we are more of an audio family. now i have watched movies on all of those nice expensive TVs and i agree they are nice and alot of fun to watch and i'd love to own one but i have other priorities first. so maybe that guy doesn't give a crap that his SDA's dwarf his TV, maybe hes into audio alot more then video and who cares? to each his own. sorry just my .02 cents

    Air,

Wasn't knocking him. No one was. I think people are getting hypersensitive around here anymore.

But when you first see that picture it's damn shocking how big those sda's are.

LCD and Plasma sets have a very short life span
Is this 100% true? I was under the impression that one of the advantages of an LCD computer screen was a much longer life span compared to a comprable CRT. I figured it extended into bigger screens as well.

That said, I wouldn't buy a plazma simply because I think HD CRTs have a superior picture quality, and most of what plazmas have is the "Wow" factor. My Current Dream TV (within reason) is the Sony 34" XBR Widescreen (drool). I find a 34" to be plenty big.

27- Little? Let me tell you about my house

We have one (count 'em- ONE) 19" TV. This 10- year old 19" Sony serves as our HT screen and has connected to it all Harmon Kardon electronics, All Polk RTi Speakers, Monster power and cabling through out (quite nice 5.1). Let's just say my parents are reluctant to buying a "Big" TV (like 27 inches). That's not to mention MY 5.1 system (all Onkyo/Polk RTi) doesn't even have a TV connected to it. But Hey- it works :-)

I love hearing about these HT rigs with speakers that only have one tweeter and one driver plus a little sub driver. My littlest speaker has 3 tweeters, 6 drivers and a 15" PR which goes down to 12Hz. And all this time I thought I was missing something - woooo hooooo!!! No wonder concert venues are still pulling down hundreds of millions.
