Jumpers

Would I see any difference if I used jumper on my monitor 50s instead of the brass plates that came with them?
Just curious for peoples onpinions.
If so...what kind should I get?
I am currently running monoprice 12 gauge wire with monoprice nanner plugs.
Thanks.

You may see a difference, but you won't hear one.

Yeah, I have like 30 or so feet of it...I only made about a 9 foot run for my cables for the speaker....
Do I just....like....twist the positive and negative of them and wrap them around my terminals or do I have to use a positive for one and a negative for one?
Just curious how I am suppose to do this.

The brass plates are crap. They are not even good conductors. When I purchased my 1.2TLs they came with really lousy jumpers. I bought a spool of Radio Shack pure stranded copper 12 gauge wire and connected the binding post by using the hole in the post to thread the wire through and then tightened the heck out of the nuts.

Did I hear a difference, well, I wasn't listening for one. I was just satisfied to have a better connection between my high freq. and low freq. posts.

Oooh. So in other words just take a couple cuts of my 12 gauge wire.... electriacl tape them together strip like... an inch of each end and just twit the crap out them and stick them in the holes?
Like how many cuts should I use of the +/- to get a good connection?
I mean I do have plenty of electrical tape and plenty of 12 gauge wire left over...

If you have the materials just laying around, seems like a no brainer to me. I'm not sure why one would crap an idea when no money is being spent....oh well.

Twist the wire very tightly and thread them through the holes and then tighten the nuts down as best you can without breaking them. Of course bananas would be easier.

Well. I have banana plugs in the top terminals the poke right in the top of them...then I have the brass plate...
So just take like a 4 inch cut or wire twist both the +/- into a tight strand untighten the terminals and put them in the holes where you can put bare wire in...tighten down and stick my nanners back on top?
That should be enough? Or should I use 2 cuts in one... so like a + - + - twisted....

if you want to get fancy, buy some heat shrink slide your two cables in there and Bingo! or kep them seperated. Just be sure to remove the brass ones. How about this. make a pair put em on one speaker leave the brass ones in place on the other speaker, play some music see if you can tell a difference. But as Doro said, why not try it, it's free and easy....doesn't get much better than that!

Yeah I think I will try that.
Would it matter if I just used one speaker cable on each or would I benefit from using more wire...
Just curious... how big are the gauges that most jumper cables use...the best ones anyway.

I have tried to attach a picture of what I did.
Just seeing if I did it right?

I'll see if I can find some spade connectors for it maybe... See if that will do the job.
I imagine I can pick some up fairly cheap.

I would suggest searching for "jumpers" and you'll see many posts with very nice pictures showing jumpers others have made and how they were connected.

So, you take a short piece of speaker wire and connect each strand just like hooking up a speaker. Or take two short pieces and twist them together and use 'em like that. It really shouldn't matter and should be better than stock. Just don't kill too many more brain cells worrying about it. :) Yes, it really is that simple.

    haha. Ok cool. Thanks guys.
If I don't win the jumpers I am bidding on I will probably make some fancy ones myself :)

Curious how much would be too much for some jumper cables.

Yeah. I have found some nifty looking jumpers that some people have made.
One guy shrink tubed his cables, wrapped them in something nylon and they looked pretty sharp...
I may try that...problem is finding spade connectors that don't cost a ton of money that are good quality.

So I have looked around and basically what I will need is some Shrink tubing, some techflex to make it look sharp and then some spade connectors.
Does anyone know what size shrink wrap I should use and what size techflex I should use as well?
I plan on covering my speaker cables with techflex as well and shrink wrapping the ends to make them look high end.
    Thanks for the help guys.

Okay this is the grand finding.
The supplies I will need are.
1/2 inch of techflex and then some Cable pants I was thinking 11mm I was going to braid my 12 gauge wire 4 strands and banana plug 2 strands to make a super thick fancy looking wire...
Or would that be way to much?
It would equal out all in all to be about 190 strands of copper per banana plug
Then for jumper I was going to do the same but just buy some spades and twist two of the cables buy a little 6mm shrink wrap and a 1/8 inch techflex for the jumpers...
I want someone to run my numbers for sizes and see if I am going to do this right....
all in all it will cost me about $60 to make my cables look super nice.

    Already got some ideas.
    I am getting
    Cable pants 11mm 10 count
    1/2 inch tech-flex cable 25 feet
Gold spade 8 awg 1/4 in connectors (2 pairs)
6mm (about 3 feet worth) heat shrink to finalize all the ends on my connections.

    I plan on doing this.
I plan on taking two cuts of twelve gauge wires both 10 feet. Then I am going to split them in half making 4 wires. I want to braid those wires to make one big wire leaving about 4 inches at the end. I am going cover those with the tech-flex then I am going to attach the cable pants split the wires so that there are two wires out of each "leg" I am going to shrink that, then I am going to attach my banana plugs and put some of the 6mm shrink on those and the wire and shrink that off.
I plan on having it look fairly nice.
For my jumpers I am going to do the same thing but without the cable pants part. Just strait up twist the wires, the attach the spades shrink the 6mm tube wrap on the wire and connect.

The result I am hoping to look like super expensive audio wire.
    :)
Anyone see any flaws or does this all look like it should work...
I plan on placing the order on parts express should cost me $35 all said and done...plus my time haha

I plan to post pictures when I am done...get some opinions on whether I did a good job or not.

Lot of good opinions above. What you're doing is petty much a no brainer! Just connect the two ends to each set of terminals JUST LIKE THE JUMPERS that Polk already gave you. Will you hear a difference on M50s...probably NOT.

But have fun anyway. There are lot more 'interesting' things you could/should be doing instead of replacing Polk stock jumpers for M-series speakers that are already 'adequate' for the task assigned to them. Now if you had a high end pair of speakers...they'd probably come with some higher end wiring! So you wouldn't have to worry much there either...?

How did a thread about this..get so looooonnnnnngggggggg??????????

The best jumpers I've ever used were part of the main cables. Stip off about an inch of the sleeve (plastic wrap) about 8" from the ends. Wrap that bare wire around one terminal and finish on the other.
