Agreed Brock. Some of these "opinions" are transparent (at best) and disgusting (at worst).I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

So I'm playing the devil's advocate to some extent, but there's no need for the large bold type, which is tantamount to virtual shouting. I'm not judging anyone's intentions, I'm just stating that there may be a whole lot more to the story than meets the eye, and these kids may not have had the most honorable intentions, in which case they disgraced the American flag by using it in a dishonorable way.

I couldn't agree with you more Kex. How is wearing an American t-shirt flag to school and posting American flags in random people's yards in any way a valid comparison?
I'm really not trying to bash you in any way, but I see this stuff everyday where people argue on forums and try to validate their claim from a comparison thats not even valid?
I'm going to give everyone here a great tip for debating...here it goes:
If you're debating with someone, and you think you have a comparison, put yourself in their shoes...would said comparison actually make them rethink their position, or is your comparison off enough that it would actually make it worse because not only are they going to invalidate your comparison? This is going to make other stuff you said questionable, AND the other person is going to start smelling blood because you are having to make such outlandish comparisons (or even somewhat outlandish) because you dont have anything else to go off of.
And that is your daily tutorial, courtesy of Exalted512.
Have a nice day....and lets just say that we all agree to disagree and start to wind this thread down, eh?

Let's assume you were to drive around a few streets where you know Mexican Americans live, and plant American flags in their front yard. Even though they are American, maybe even second or third generation American, that action could easily be misinterpreted as an invitation to "go home, you're not welcome here".

Unless it goes against the school policy (which according to the report it didn't), they have the right to wear whatever they want to school. However, it would be absolutely naive to believe that those flat billers wore American Flag clothing on Cinco de Mayo for the sole purpose of expressing patriotism. It is pretty transparent that they were trying to start trouble. Look how quickly the local news was called. Notice how when one of the kids was interviewed he made sure to point out the Vice Principal's ethnicity as a subtle hint that the VP is anti-American. I'm not saying he is or he isn't. Just pointing it out.
But, at the same time, shame on the school for taking the bait. Let the kids make their point and wear the American Flag clothing (I actually thought the shoes looked cool). -

Brief and simple question for Kex et al. And TRY, just try to be honest with yourself when you answer.
If, on the 4th of July, a group of Mexican children wore the Mexican flag to school, and were asked to go home because of it, how would you react?
Would you defend the principal for sending home antagonists? Or would you cry RACIST! and criticize the principal for suppressing the freedom of speech of those children?
If you say the former, I say you're a liar.If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
How naive can some people be?

Were the kids wearing the flag antagonizing any other kids? If so, then they were in the wrong. But, from what I understand, they just went to school and studied. It seems to me the principal was reacting to possible violence being instigated by students other than the flag wearers as a response to a sign of love for our country.
Are you saying the Flag flown even in silent protest on certain days is antagonistic? -

The original idea of the Clubhouse section was to discuss fairly harmless events, that fall outside of audio/video subjects, on a daily basis. It wasn't intended to be a forum for controversial, deeply felt social subjects. It is possible that this section could be eliminated if it doesn't return to a less hostile breeding ground.
Catch my drift?

Rosita's in Dallas, best Mexican food I've ever had in any state or Mexico. It is or was if it's still there run by a Mexican mamma that was four feet tall by four feet wide and she was just the life of the party at the restaurant. She would have complimentary full bottles of homemade mescal on the table and I can tell you after drinking it you swore you were on mescaline or peyote buttons.
Also when you asked for the food to be hot, you were taking your life in your in your hands and needless to say your heiny too the next day.;) -

Good point, except that the 4th of July is a national holiday in America, so the schools would be closed:D:D:D
But, I do see what you are saying. If I were at a 4th of July parade, picnic, etc. and someone showed up wearing any other country's shirt (not just Mexican) I would be very upset. But, I would also think that the sole purpose of them wearing whatever country's shirt was to antagonize. If they wore a British shirt, I would just make fun of them.

If you want to see how these type of things play out in the supreme court look to Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District. As long as the said child didn't cause "substantial disruption" then they are entilted to whatever speech they would like as per the case it made the precendent that children are allowed free speech even past the door step of the school.
In Tinker students wore black arm bands to school in order to protest the War and got in trouble due to this. In order to have a case the school would have to state how this wearing of the flag would have to come across as "vulgar and offensive" to the other students, which is really IMO can not do as someone is not going to protest saying the students are offended by the flag ect. Now if it were the MANOR of the way they did it that is a different case. If someone is trying to provoke a reaction out of someone and getting them to cause a stir, then the tables change. Its all dependent upon the context and the way things are done.
I am not saying what way I side or anything like that but that is some back ground of whats happened so far in cases like this. -
Unless this sense of fashion has been expressed by the same individuals on other days than the 5th of May, it's impossible not to see it as an antagonistic maneuver. Plain and simple.
What I happen to find particularly funny is the fact that most Mexicans don't even celebrate this day. They chose to pick a battle that wasn't even there and got exposed with their pants down. Four inches and all.....I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Forum members,
It seems as though everyone has, pretty much, expressed their opinion on the subject, correct? Do you think it should be closed and everyone move to another subject? Maybe about weekend plans? Vacation plans? Visiting a new city? Helping a friend move?
Thanks for stepping back from the brink!
