Oh I've been since spending my time studying accoustics since we've all last spoken. I now have budgeted for 16 full sized 2*4*4" basstraps in both frk and non frk, all diy, also 4 corner "superchunk" basstraps, mass loaded vinyle and accoustic blankets for the ceiling. Sub isolator pads. Possibly some DECWARE diy diffuser kits. My room is gonna be straight.
I've narrowed the equipment choices to these:
mains: GR Research N3 transmission line kit with XBL^2 planar tweeter and two XBL^2 6.5 midwoofers. Will be acrylic painted viper blue with stripes.
These will come with all the upgrades and extras. Sonicaps, etc.
subs: two GR Research/Rythmik 12" paper cone servo sub kits painted same.
Receiver-preamp: Emotiva UMC-1 (so I can run my PS3. Emotiva says it sounds just as nice in stereo).
Amp - uncertain. Probably H/K 3490 as my power needs have shrunk.
CD player: Emotiva ERC-1.
So that's where I'm at. Still probably spending about 5 hours a day reading and in forums. Right now I'm studying paint and finishing stuff. I have to buy a new PC next week and after that it's all stereo. I estimate three months to up and running. I'll post! -
u've reminded me my undergrad yrs, ive owned mx5021 from 2005-2007. they are very good when compare to creative and logitech, the subbox has some amazing upper bass even compare to the very expansive subs. but the mids and his arevery lacking, those shallow satelite arent real speakers, then i upgraded into klipsch iFi 2.1, probably the most expansive 2.1 multimedia speaker i can find (wasnt thinking abt home speaker due to the complexity (needs a amp) and ignorant), the mids are so much better, vocals are more touching and inspiring, sub digs a bit deeper but less controled and not very tight compare to mx5021. last summer i accidientally purchased RTI6 and M10, caught a close out price for 169$ new, and found this wonderful forum, thats where my journey begins. these speakers r now in my HT setup but im sitting in front my pc most time and need a upgrading soon. i think its nice to do the upgrading slowly. the M10s, cheapest speaker polk makes, are night and days when compare to the mx5021 satelite. now ive listened to many different speakers, the M10s i would call it the the bottom line for a real speaker, which creates some comfortable music that make me enjoy. My RTI6s were pushed by the klipsch ifi sub for a while and really doing ok, so im suggesting you take a step back, buy a apair of easily driven booksheves, (like polk M10, TSI100 or RTIA3) and let ur Mx5021 subs handle them for a while, this will make ur upgrading more interesting.Front: Martinlogan ESL
