Kinda silly. But is it any wonder why Verizon's FiOS is kicking Comcast's butt in the areas where it's available?

I have Comcast and it doesn't surprise me one bit! Why do you think they are pushing the new brand name Xfinity? It's to disassociate themselves from the name Comcast. Same company just a different name. Just like Ameritech changed their name to SBC and then finally AT&T. Ameritech was a horrible company, SBC was the same company with a new name and it eventually became the "new" AT&T.

The last time I dealt with them was in 1986, when I told them they would never get another penny from me because their service was the worst I had ever experienced. I'm not surprised that they still suck.

Cable companies are always a huge target of complaints because they deal with our leisure time, and any interruption to that is considered sacred to the consumer. I've had both Comcast and Verizon w/Direct TV. In all my experience I'll take Comcast over Verizon setup anytime. Besides, far more of my $$ stay locally in my area.

My only complaint with Comcast in the very long time that I've been with them is price. But they are all expensive, so it's more of a complaint with the industry in general. Comcast's service, for me, has been excellent.

Comcast was/is crappy company. bar none. period.

The only reason they survive this long is because they monopolize the cable access in a lot of regions.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I am not unhappy that I canceled Comcast about nine years ago and went with Direct, Direct is no great shakes but I do like them over the Comcast service I had.

Seems to me there does need to be more competition for all sorts of things in our country, seems to have been many many merger approvals granted in the name of good, but who's good???????

    No good.

I have them and I hate their service and are overpriced. Plus, most of the time when you call for service they use contractors that do not know how to troubleshoot or check signal level, they push certain brands of inferior cable modems that suck and are never on time. Now I have a new receiver with DVR/HDMI that haves problems but they cannot replace because they say they have none in stock! They are terrible. But they have a monopoly in my area and other than going with a dish I have no choice:(
BTW.... they can remotely check your signal level at your modem/receiver but they never let you know that you may have a weak signal because they do not want to replace cable runs.Plus, I know for a fact that their contractors install/replace cable modems with cheap inferior models.

They can't be as bad as Charter Communications Cable.

We have Charter 'cause they're the only (cable) game in town... only internet (I won't pay money so that I can watch commercials on TV; I am just funny that way) but actually the service and support have been more than adequate so far (something like 7 or 8 years now).

Based on anecdotal data from folks in this general vicinity who use Comcast... Charter is considerably better all around.

Everyone in my area that had Comcast and can get Verizon Switched That I know.

I personally got it the day it was available here and I would never go back to Comcast. The Price is the worse , they are so much more expensive it makes me sick. Verizon gave me a sweet deal and I'm saving over 100 bucks a month.

I have had Comcast for 20 years, basically because I didn't have many choices. In recent years I call them every 6 months and renegotiate my contract. I have gone from $160 per month to $91 without any loss of service and actually many more channels.
Just never wanted to go through the hassle of switching to a dish etc. The internet is not the fastest, but it's okay.
Vios is not available in my neighborhood for some reason.

I've had Verizon Fios for 1 year as of last week. Not one, single problem with them. I pay $145/mo (month-to-month program) for very fast internet (20/5 I believe), TV with 2 boxes and all phones, long distance included. Great service at an ever greater price.

Well I'm going against the grain here. I've been using Comcast for high speed internet and cable TV since 1998, added their phone system when I moved here 4 1/2 years ago. Besides the one problem I had when them when moving into this house, which I had posted a thread here a few years back, they have been very good to me.

Recently I had a phone problem which they took care of that day but they had to reset my voice mail and thought they did it without notifying me. Here they sent me an email with all the instructions on how to get everything back like it was BUT I MISSED THE EMAIL. I called them up and they told me about the email and sure enough it was there with all the pertinent email and they apparently had told my wife that they would send an email with the info instead of mailing the info so we could take care of it right away but she never told me about. After listening to the "generic" voice mail message they put on after the reset I decided it leave it there to through off all the telemarketing callers who ignore the "do not call list".

When my email address got comprimised they caught it right away and notified me by telephone and snail mail and got the hacker nailed before he could do any damage. Had me change my password and all was well.

I've never had one virus get through to my computer because they always catch them before they get out on their network.

Their customer service has become steller and I get to call a local office here in New Castle county and get to speak to someone who speaks English without the 5, 10, 15 minute hold times. We had a new line installed in my son's room recently and they were johnny on the spot getting installed, plus gave me free inter access to his room off my moden. Shortly thereafter my goofy son screwed up the cable box. I called and they were out the next day, replaced the modem with no service or parts charge. They also gave me another free highspeed internet for his computer.

Every two years, one month before my contract expires I get a call from their retention department and they notify me of the expiration and negotiate a new one with me and I can tell you the cost of my service hasn't increased in three years.

One day we had a guy from Verizon come to the door with the Fios internet/cable TV and phone service offer trying to get us to switch. They were going to give me a deal where I would pay $100 a month lock, stock, and barrel with almost the same set up except they would only include one DVR (we have two). I told them to come back the next day. I called Comcast CS, they transfered me to their retention department and I discussed with them all the "perks" Verizon was offering and asked them to match the price and I would stay with them. The told me to ask a number of questions to the Verizon salesman. Sure enough, after that year offer was up, the phone, the cable TV and internet would DOUBLE! Comcast sent me an email and gave me free access to all the popular pay channels for six months because of my call. Also, I few of my neighbors switched to Verizon and I hear nothing but compliants about outages, bad service, distortion etc.

So unless things spiral downward with Comcast and me, which I again reiterate their customer service has improved greatly, I'm still hooked. BTW I have HBO, Starz, two DVRs, two high speed internet setups, long distance even to Hawaii, on Demand, and a lots more that I am probably unaware of for $148 a month.

    FLAME ON!!!!

Second that on Charter. I can't stand them, but they are the only ones in town. Even Consumer Reports recently rated them last amongst 15 cable companies.

Comcast service is fine with me. I just get tired of the ridiculous pricing. Every few months I have to call and threaten to switch and they'll lower my bill to 90 bucks or so. Then over the following few months it inches back up to $145 and I have to call again and the cycle starts over.

Comcast and Charter both block communications on port 135, which caused some pain at work because we converted to Exchange for our corporate email system. Some of the remote salesmen had one or the other at home, and could not communicate with our corporate email system using their older version of Outlook. Had to upgrade them to a minimum of Outlook 2003 in order to take advantage of RPC over HTTPS instead of a direct MAPI connection.

Not really a big deal in the end, because it means we can close up direct MAPI access to our server. Unfortunately, we had to buy some Outlook 2007 licenses to do it. And, it caused some headaches for me trying to figure out what was going on at first.
    Ludicrous gibs!

their stuff works great (once you get it working) but their CS is TERRIBLE. took me three months, 2 out of town trips and 75 dollars worth of service fees just to get an HD box. they are a bunch of morons. im not to happy about them paying random people to sit in on the discussion of net neutrality though so all the sits were filled and no "real" people could come in and listen. if they f*ck up net neutrality, ill drop them like a radioactive substance.

I have Comcast for my internet service, and couldn't be happier with it. It's really fast, very reliable, and I've never had a single problem with it in all the years I've had it. There are a couple other providers in my area, but Comcast is consistently rated the highest...and I agree. They are, by a wide margin, the best IP in my area.

As far as TV/cable/satellite goes...I don't watch it. I don't have cable or satellite, nor do I have any plans of ever getting either of them. Broadcast TV is ridiculous...I can't even watch it anymore, and never do. I turn it on and feel like I'm getting dumber by the second.

I might get myself one of them newfangled digital antennas sometime though. I'll be able to pick up about 4-5 channels here. That'd come in handy for the 2 hours worth of TV watching that I do on an annual basis.

I've actually seriously considered just getting rid of my TV, and not even owning one anymore. Currently, I think it's been about a week since I even turned my TV on...lol

I'll still keep it around though, I suppose. I like to watch a DVD movie once every couple of months...and I watch TV shows on DVD 1-2 times a week or so.

I also watch a few music DVD's a month, which would be my only real reason to not get rid of my TV.

I don't know, last time I visited our son...he's in Boston. He had Comcast running. The TV looked OK, the internet which I used while there was not BLAZING fast but good enough. We have Time Warner up North where I am. No PRIZE there. I REFUSE TO use their INTERNET service....sticking to Verizon DSL when I return...I think?

I was with Comcast for about 2 years and got laid off. I got behind on my bill and couldn't get anyone but a machine to talk with. It went to collections and that's when I realized I needed to understand and speak more than 2 languages to survive in the corporate world.
I paid them off and went to DirecTV. It was a lousy install on my dish pole and couldn't get a picture. They came out 3 times and told me my TV was the problem.
I had 3 tvs and they all had the same issues. "NO SIGNAL STRENGTH".
I had Dish Network come out, they drove the pole in the groind another foot deeper and I had no problems until my neighbors 7 year old tried to swing around on my dish.
Dish came out, put on a new dish, charged me $99 and it never worked since. The installer/repair person never checked to see IF I had signal.
I called them and they wanted another $99 to come back out to fix their work and I've been running "rabbit ears" since.
BTW, I called the Indiana Attorney General's Office and they sent a letter to Dish. I received full credit for the time my dish was down and refunded my $99 service fee.
We do have recourse against the Corporate bottom feeders but have to go the extra mile to find it.
