Comcast and Charter both block communications on port 135, which caused some pain at work because we converted to Exchange for our corporate email system. Some of the remote salesmen had one or the other at home, and could not communicate with our corporate email system using their older version of Outlook. Had to upgrade them to a minimum of Outlook 2003 in order to take advantage of RPC over HTTPS instead of a direct MAPI connection.

Not really a big deal in the end, because it means we can close up direct MAPI access to our server. Unfortunately, we had to buy some Outlook 2007 licenses to do it. And, it caused some headaches for me trying to figure out what was going on at first.

Why aren't you using OWA? It rocks with Exchange Server 2007. I had Comcast for 5 years in Michigan. No complaints.

I wonder if Comcast has ever receive a complain letter such as this one.... :D
    Dear Cretins,

I have been an NTL customer since 9th July 2001, when I signed up for
your 3-in-one deal for cable TV, cable modem, and telephone. During this
three-month period I have encountered inadequacy of service which I had
not previously considered possible, as well as ignorance and stupidity
of monolithic proportions. Please allow me to provide specific details,
so that you can either pursue your professional perogative, and seek to
rectify these difficulties - or more likely (I suspect) so that you can
have some entertaining reading material as you while away the working
day smoking B&H and drinking vendor-coffee on the bog in your office:
My initial installation was cancelled without warning, resulting in my
spending an entire Saturday sitting on my fat arse waiting for your
technician to arrive. When he did not arrive, I spent a further 57
minutes listening to your infuriating hold music, and the even more
annoying Scottish robot woman telling me to look at your helpful
    website....HOW?

I alleviated the boredom by playing with my testicles for a few minutes
    - an activity at which you are no-doubt both familiar and highly adept.
The rescheduled installation then took place some two weeks later,
although the technician did forget to bring a number of vital tools -
such as a drill-bit, and his cerebrum. Two weeks later, my cable modem
had still not arrived. After 15 telephone calls over 4 weeks my modem
arrived... six weeks after I had requested it, and begun to pay for it.
I estimate your internet server's downtime is roughly 35%... hours
between about 6pm -midnight, Mon-Fri, and most of the weekend. I am
still waiting for my telephone connection. I have made 9 calls on my
mobile to your no-help line, and have been unhelpfully transferred to a
variety of disinterested individuals, who are it seems also highly
    skilled bollock jugglers.

I have been informed that a telephone line is available (and someone
will call me back); that no telephone line is available (and someone
will call me back); that I will be transferred to someone who knows
    whether or not a telephone line is available (and then been cut off);
that I will be transferred to someone (and then been redirected to an
answer machine informing me that your office is closed); that I will be
transferred to someone and then been redirected to the irritating
Scottish robot woman...and several other variations on this theme.
Doubtless you are no longer reading this letter, as you have at least a
thousand other dissatisfied customers to ignore, and also another one of
those crucially important ****-moments to attend to. Frankly I don't
care, it's far more satisfying as a customer to voice my frustration's
in print than to shout them at your unending hold music. Forgive me,
    therefore, if I continue.

I thought BT were ****, that they had attained the holy piss-pot of godawful customer relations, that no-one, anywhere, ever, could be more
disinterested, less helpful or more obstructive to delivering service to
their customers. That's why I chose NTL, and because, well, there isn't
anyone else is there? How surprised I therefore was, when I discovered
to my considerable dissatisfaction and disappointment what a useless
shower of **** you truly are. You are sputum-filled pieces of
distended **** incompetents of the highest order.

British Telecom - wankers though they are - shine like brilliant beacons
of success, in the filthy puss-filled mire of your seemingly limitless
inadequacy. Suffice to say that I have now given up on my futile and
foolhardy quest to receive any kind of service from you. I suggest that
you cease any potential future attempts to extort payment from me for
the services which you have so pointedly and catastrophically failed to
deliver - any such activity will be greeted initially with hilarity and
disbelief quickly be replaced by derision, and even perhaps bemused
rage. I enclose two small deposits, selected with great care from my
cats litter tray, as an expression of my utter and complete contempt for
both you and your pointless company. I sincerely hope that they have not
become desiccated during transit - they were satisfyingly moist at the
time of posting, and I would feel considerable disappointment if you did
not experience both their rich aroma and delicate texture. Consider them
the very embodiment of my feelings towards NTL, and its worthless
    employees.

Have a nice day - may it be the last in you miserable short life, you
irritatingly incompetent and infuriatingly unhelpful bunch of twats.

Using OWA 2010... it's AWESOME. Totally eliminates the need for outlook outside the business, AND it lets you manage many thing from inside its RBAC center...like modifying distro lists, access rights, etc.

Well as a follow up to my mostly high praise post of Comcast, there is one thing they do that I find particularly disturbing in this crappy economy.

A few times last year we were really strapped from for money and couldn't make all the bills. I called Comcast to make payment arrangements for a month of service payments much like that which can be done with the electric company, water company, etc. I was told that they do not make payment arrangements, have no system in place to for relief of such situations and that if payment wasn't rendered by the 3rd of the month following the skipped months payment that they would cut cable and internet service and give X amount of days to make the payment before cutting phone service. I believe the phone service falls under the jurisdiction of the Public Utilities Commision and they have to abide by their rules thus giving more time to pay a bill before cutting phone service. Geez we are only talking about arranging to skip or partially pay one months bill.

I found that to be a pretty stringent policy again especially considering that the economy is causing great financial woes to many people.

They can't be as bad as Charter Communications Cable.

Charter is the worst. My friend has Charter at his home and at his cabin. The exact same package costs half as much at his cabin because there is a competing cable company there. So because of lack of competition in my market, I'm paying twice as much as I should.

Okay, now I have a complaint. Watching TV last night and the program gets interupted for an AMBER alert. Only problem is the channel showed an Arena football game between Louisville and Harrisburg or some crap and never showed the Amber Alert. You couldn't change the channel, all recordings in progress (History of America) were interupted (lost) and we never did find out what the Alert was all about. Every channel was stuck on Arena football!! This went on for 40 minutes!!

Found out today that the alert was for Newark NJ, 75 miles away from my house. Now, I'm all for catching bad guys, especially when kids are involved, but isn't the person most likely to spot a wanted car a person on the radio in a car. Do they really think a person watching TV 75 miles away is gonna catch a car speeding down the NJTP or Garden State Parkway in Newark NJ? Literally 10's of thousand of people got thier programming interupted for an Amber Alert that was never broadcast, because apparantly they couldn't figure out how to use the system, but we got to see Harrisburg vs Louisville?? Can't they just scroll it across the screen anyway?

I think its hard to pick which is the worst (or even harder, which is the best). I don't have cable, but have Verizon for home phone and DSL and I haven't been real pleased. My home phone line and internet was out of service for nearly 10 days in February before they could get someone here. Yes, there had been some flooding in the area causing big problems, but still...10 days without phone or internet? I'm sure there is plenty of anecdotal evidence for poor service with ALL of the major providers. IN my neighborhood, there is no choice for home phone. Verizon or nothing...so I signed up for DSL to get a special offer. My contract is up this August and I'm considering just doing without the home phone and switching internet providers, but I haven't researched which company might be better (if such one exists in the area)

Oh, none taken. Like I said, I'm all for catching crooks, trust me, I'm not one to walk past screams coming from an alley, but this was just stupid. EVEN IF this car found it's way to my backwoods street clear on the opposite end of the state, it would literally have to drive down my 300 foot driveway and honk the horn for me to come out and investigate. Even then I doubt I would recognize this was a 1980 whatever Buick whatever that was wanted for a car hijacking 7 counties away. There's a better chance that some guy with balloons and a big check would show up at my door than this carjacker from Newark.
You could tell some dimwit on the night shift at Comcast could not figure out how to broadcast this thing.

Verizon stopped laying fiber for FiOS, so if you don't have it now, you won't have for the near future. Of course if you're in an ATT neighborhood, you might get uVerse at some point if you don't have it already. Before you order uVerse, read this thread...http://utalk.att.com/t5/Equipment/Audio-drop-outs-surround-5-1/td-p/57711

1500+ posts on audio dropouts via optical output (the only way to receive DD). I have time warner after dropping uVerse due to the audio problem and I have no big problems. Sure they don't have all the bells and whistles that FiOS and uVerse have but it works nearly all of the time. VOD can be spotty on the weekends though. It's also cheaper the FiOS. Verizon gets you with HD, DVR, receiver, remote, and any other charge they can dream up to increase your bill. In case they can't get you to buy more, they may just increase your bill since you fit in a certain profile!

I used to have Verizon and was kind of pleased with thier CS, but...they got bought out by a new company called Fairpoint....It totally blows.
They are the worst half the time I am telling their customer service how to do stuff.
They told me the reason why I didn't have internet is because the router wasn't plugged in when the Teach guy that came had plugged it in like 5 minuted before he said that...

Well they've alread laid the lines in my neighborhood and I'm still not going there. I was talking to a neighbor on Thursday and he is so disappointed in the performance and CS of Verizon FIOS that he just went on and on.

I'm so glad I didn't switch although I did just get a notice from Comcast that they are increasing my rates despite our contract "due to increased taxes & regulations by the FCC and local authorities." Hmmm sounds a little BSing is going on here or not, but I'm fighting it as we have a contract for a set rate and I don't care what their costs have become for them to do business. There is probably a clause in the contract stating that these types of increases are permitted but I'm not buying into it. My agreement with their rentention department is that my rates are locked in and won't be raised until the contract is up . . . I'm going on that.

Nationwide. They're focusing on increasing penetration numbers for the areas already installed. Don't know the exact reason, but I'm sure it centered around cost.

Oh, it's there... and it's available... and they've been encouraged to use it. But, they can't not have a client on their PC. Or so I'm told. Something to do with being able to access old emails for review if their internet connection is unavailable. These guys are remote sales, so I suppose it stands to reason that they might take their laptop to a store and need to pull up an email, but not have an internet connection.

    Meh, either way, Comcast sucks.
