Help identifying resistor.

Can someone help identify these:

Look like resistors to me but not sure if the values, 1 watt is easy but what is 150j?

Trying to repair my old Yamaha AVR I found bad solder joints and a burned resistor, thread here: http://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/168638/halp-yammy-rx-v3000-clicks-off-immediately#latest

Thanks!!!

With that green end it doesn't look like any resistor I've ever seen, could it be some kind of a thermistor ?

You really need the schematics and parts list to be sure.

  • Agree, do small ceramic capacitors get made like this? Googling tells me an upper case J denotes Joules...and 150 Joules equals 1 watt/second....But that may mean nothing....I did buy some 1w 150ohm resistors ****-u-me-ing that might be it, but I really don't want to blow it up by guessing.

Know of a source for the schematics/parts list?

Or if anybody knows what this little guy is and where to get more?

Here's a link to the service manual. Looks complete.

That is probably a 1W metal film or metal oxide resistor, what is the part number on the circuit board?

  • Oh you are good Gimpod...my google powers need work, I just kept finding regular manuals.

I'll take a look at it close tonight.

Nevermind. I thought it looked like a custom 105J cap rated at either .15 uF or 15 pF. Looking at the your photo of the power supply, it looks like a power resistor, perhaps 150 0hm?

    what is 150j?

Letters are used to indicate the tolerance. J would be +/- 5%.

I agee with Ken that it's a metal film or metal oxide resistor. So, you need to replace with the same type. The value would be 1 watt, 150 ohm 5% tolerance.

  • Awesome. Progress. I'm up skiing all day, hopefully have time to check those schematics tonight. And I'll post pics of the resistors I got, hopefully they're the correct ones. :#

From the service manual, they are R404, R405, R413, which are apparently 15ohm 1w Metal Oxide Resistors...So I'll be making another trip to the store...Everybody agree here?

Since you pulled 4 of them, measure them. Some should be close to what you think the schematic states..

Finally getting back to this, they were in fact 15ohm, grabbed some new ones and went to it. Quite a bit larger than the factory parts which I'm fine with...took just an ounce of creativity to fit them in the same space and the foil on the PCB had dela
minated requiring a little point to point wiring.

Also took the opportunity to clean up the volume pot so it works again and repair a bunch of other poor looking solder joints including a bunch on the display, bringing all the dead pixels back to life.

Glad to have it back. I prefer the the sound of the LSi's on this amp over the stand in Marantz SR7001.
    Thanks for the help everybody!
