I think it's more about quantity than quality in that thread.

This may have been posted here before, but still funny.

Lucky me - my Metrum Acoustics Onyx R2R DAC fits onto the same shelf as my Benchmark HPA4 preamp B) EDIT: For those interested, there is a balanced/XLR connection between the DAC and the preamp. Now I can more freely switch phono preamps onto the upper shelf B)

Thanks for confirming, gents!

For others who own the Vera-Fi Snubway and Main Stream devices (@bcwsrt and @treitz3): does your SnubWay illuminate through the clear acrylic layer that is flush with the wall outlet? My Main Stream illuminates blue/violet, but my SnubWay does not. Thanks

Yes, and I see you own their Morpheus 2 DAC B) Did you ever try a Metrum DAC, or did you go straight to the Sonnet?

The purpose of this post is to compare the sound of my new-to-me Metrum Acoustics Onyx R2R DAC to my reference Benchmark Media HGC/DAC3, which is a Delta Sigma type DAC. The Benchmark DAC3 utilizes an ESS ES9028PRO chip. Benchmark has its roots in professional studio recording gear; they eventually entered the consumer…

Playing around with a pair of Minimus Realistic 7W (Walnut cabs) along with an SVS sub. Powered by a lowly PS Audio Sprout, with a Logitech SqueezeBox Touch as a streamer source. The resulting sound might make an audiophile reconsider what is important, and/or sufficient.
-
I should be picking up a Metrum Acoustics Onyx R2R DAC tomorrow. Looking forward to comparing it with my Benchmark HGC/DAC3.

When open baffle is a necessity, not a choice.

A streamer connected to your local network will have a local IP address, which you can connect to via your browser, using your TV as a computer monitor. The musical data goes directly to the streamer, but you can view and control the streamer interface through the browser. But, the streamer will need a direct interface…

A friend of mine used to own a bicycle shop, and he always said, "I have to make money off my friends, since my enemies don't buy from me."

There is a thread over on Vinyl Engine where a guy from London has almost 50 pages of comments (mostly just him) where he is experimenting with a Hana ML and an SUT, although the SUT is integrated into his phono stage. https://www.vinylengine.com/turntable_forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=135060

Ha, I do have several cartridges, but actually none of those. The Hana carts have piqued my interest over the years, but I've never heard one. I know they were developed by Excel, and I do have some carts by Coral that were also done by Excel, and I like the Corals carts very much B)

Tonight, I've been cleaning, and thoroughly enjoying, this Harman Kardon 430 from my dad's collection. Not everything he 'collected' was gold, but this HK 430 sure was. different lighting It has cleaned up very well, and I got lucky that the scratchiness in the volume pot was remedied with a quick spray of DeOxit. I…

I have an Outlaw RR2150 in my stable, and although I don't have experience with the Polk R700s, I think it would be a good match. Those Outlaw RR2150/2160 receivers/amps are very versatile, and have plenty of power. So personally, I would not hesitate to try one with those Polk speakers. Will it get "the most" out of the…

Many of us here have been through that, but perhaps not to the extent of yours, with 44 years of marriage. After that long, I can only hope she left you with at LEAST half of your retirement intact. A failed marriage is a loss in psycho terms, which means the various stages of grief come into play. Embrace those stages,…

@heiney9 Knowing that you are familiar with Eastern Electric products: I have an EE MiniMax BBA tube preamp that is gathering dust. I've considered experimenting with putting that between my Benchmark DAC3/HGC, and my Benchmark HPA4 line-level preamp. I'm guessing your initial response is to simply 'give it a go', but…

Still over 167,000 without power here. At least the sun is out.
-
Snow first, then lots of ice here in Nashville. Almost 230,000 without power at one point...now down to a little over 200,000.

Thanks for the clarification, Bill. I think I'm used to seeing images of current R2R ladder DACs that have discrete resistors in a ladder pattern on a PCB. I guess the OG R2R DAC chips have R2R circuitry built into an integrated-circuit (I/C) design. But, I'm not certain about the design differences.
-
Can we designate between R2R and R2R Ladder DACs? I don't think we want to be throwing around absolutes.
-
I suppose the R2R reference here is to R2R Ladder DACs. R2R (non-ladder) DAC chips were actually some of the first ones ever made back in the 80s by Philips and Burr-Brown. SW1X Audio Design uses those old R2R DAC chips in their DACs, surrounded by a lot of tubes, and separate power supplies for practically every different…

Missed it by 'THAT much'...which equates to about nine months.

Bo Nix broke his ankle...out for the season.

Hi Phil, I'm glad that the AHB2 has been a consistent performer for you during the trial period. I personally feel it is a special amp amongst today's options. It is not for everyone. But for neutrality, transparency, and clarity, there is nothing else that compares IMO. In the end, I think some sort of coloration is…

Much cleaner and tighter BTUs.

Oops, I did mean Jaguar Audio... sorry about that. I plugged a space heater into my conditioner during the break-in period in order to get some serious amperage flowing B)
