Niles SSVC 2

I'm helping a buddy put together a home system. Here is the receiver he's getting:

He will have a 5.1 in the main room. For zone 2, he will have a pair of speakers in the pool room and also a pair of outside speakers....probably never using both at the same time. What do you think of this solution with the Niles SSVC 2 instead of going with a 3 zone receiver?

On a side note, I like this receiver because it has Pre Outs for when he wants to add a little more power to the system.
