    I dunno, lot of buzz about it. Who knows?

    My thing is, I've had a couple of cheapie players that were supposedly giant killers that I didn't think were all that hot.

    I say no based on the fact that you need a tv for osd to use any controls, I personally don't want to have a tv on just to listen to music.

    But who knows, maybe it sounds great, wrap it in a billet aluminum chassis and put some blue lights on it, give it a catchy name and you could sell it for a lot of money ;)

    I've seen this on the Internet, and was curious to check it out. Well the I got a PS1 from someone off of Craigslist for $5, it was a bit dusty but powered on properly. So I took it home and dusted it off connected some MIT interconnects put in Dark side of the moon. I used the pure audio mode on my 885 and played Time. I used my Sony BDPS2000ES with another copy of Time to do my comparison, and within a few seconds I noticed that the PS1 was missing tons of detail. It's like a low quality mp3. Test over for me.

    Yes...Sony Playstation 1 (Model No. SCPH-1001). I've only tested a stock one.

    Did you do a blind A/B test and were you able to switch sources in less than 5 seconds? Because otherwise, your testing was flawed and the results can't be valid.

    Yes, switching took place in less than 4 seconds. The sound difference was like night and day.

    You know everyone is looking for the Diamond in the Ruff but my experience tells me it's more like a needle in the hey stack.

    But hey the Ps3 sounds great ripped and playing over digital so anything is possible. It seems like you already got your answer anyway.

    My initial thoughts on this were no not a chance. But after reading the very thorough test done by Stereophile Magazine (July Issue), I must say my thoughts have now changed on the PS1. The most important item I read about was to find one of the 1st.Gen. players with the Serial# SCPH-1001. They are the only PS1's with RCA jacks and the AKM AK4309AVM 16-bit sigma-delta DAC chip. Other versions of the PS1 supposedly perform much worse. I guess due to having an AV only output pin instead of RCA jacks and a different DAC chip.

    I remember one site was saying you had to leave it on, hop on one foot, etc.

    Actually, I think I still have two PS1s somewhere and I know one of them has the RCAs on the back. One day when I am bored to tears I might mess around just for the heck of it. Although, I am sure it is an urban audio legend.

    Can you please give us an explanation on why you think that? Do you use a PS1 as a CD player? Please advise, I'm really quit interested as to why you think that.
