I have the Onkyo 805 & used the Audessey calibration & dont really like the sound,if I set the Onkyo volume to 0 & calibrate each spk to 75db with a test tone will it override the Audessey or is there a way to shut off the Audessey?thanks
My HT set-up Panasonic front proj, 120 in ws screen, ATI amp,Integra 9.8 pre-pro, 2 Polk rti150, cp 1000, 4 fx 1000, Pioneer blu-ray 2 SVS sub pb 12-ultra 2, & Paragon popcorn popper. ps 3 Coaster leather HT recliners.

    You can alter the channel levels and still keep the Audyssey equalization. That is what I recommend.

    But before you make too many changes, let me ask: Did you do your Audyssey setup with a tripod and utilize all 8 positions? Did you have the microphone tip parallel with the floor? Did you use positions that are near ear height, but not too close to any walls, furniture, etc? They should be at least 18" from anything that could affect response (sofa, wall, table, etc).

    The trick to getting the most out of Audyssey it to feed it good data from as many points as possible. The points must be close to where you sit. I usually do 3 points to represent the positions on my sofa, then another 3 points about 2 feet behind the first 3, then another two points that fall just about 2 feet to the R/L of the sofa.

    You will almost always have to adjust the bass management manually. By default, Onkyo chooses to make all speakers that can pass below 50hz into "full range" speakers. Most of the time, you want to change this so that this bass is sent to the sub. Usually, you have to set the bass level manually too.

    Don't give up on Audyssey yet.

    Just remember, you will probably still have to ''tweak" the bass management (crossover settings) and possibly the channel levels.

    But, after Audyssey does its EQ, you should find a much smoother response, cleaner imaging, tighter bass, etc.

    depends... look at the firmware for the DSPs... don't remember the procedure tho... go oto AVSForums, look under the Blu-Ray Players subforum... there is a whole section for the DTS HD Master issue...

    Yep, It will more than likely happen at the same time stamp on what ever movie you where watching with your Integra.

    d... Your 805 may already contain the needed dsp&firmware update. Go the Official Onkyo 805 thread on AVSforums for instructs on how to find out...

    I've heard from quite a few folks that their recently purchased 805's were already updated.

    Read the attached PDF file. Its the instructions that came with the DSP upgrade and it tells you what versions you will have after the upgrade.

    Do what it says in step 3 to see if you already have those versions. If you do, then you are fine.

    The instructions are somewhat vague. The button presses all have to be on the receiver (not the remote). After you press the standby/display combo, you have three seconds to make a selection. This is where you press the Tone > button (which is the 3rd from the left on the bottom row) to cycle through the firmware editions. There is a Main, DSP1, DSP2, etc.

    It will stay active as long as you press that > button at least every 2-3 seconds.
