I'd love to see someone using a DenonLink setup plug in a Cat5 ethernet cable and say if it works.
Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, etc. all can also be shielded; UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair), STP (Shielded Twisted Pair). STP is more expensive than unshielded but not that much.
Without seeing a Denonlink cable in front of me--I would SWAG that they are probably not wired the same as Cat5, etc (568a/b) just so they can call it a proprietary cable. I can't see the image detail enough. Of course there is a reason for the wiring pattern in Cat rated cabling, but since the distances from your DVD player and the AVR is likely not a couple hundred feet away.....Man can you imagine how much that DenonLink cable would be? And then to have to get a plenum rated braided jacket....sheesh.
Crimping RJ45 connectors is easy enough, and cheap too-No need to buy cripmers or even connectors-just talk to your network administrator (if you work in an environment that has one)-They might even crimp it for you. Of course you could just go to just about any store and get a network cable-Heck even Rite-Aid carries them.____________________

You really gotta check out some of the reviews for this cable at Amazon:
Especially the Most Helpful review...No there are quite a few good ones there
Sweet potato pie, ...... gawwwwwwwdddd daaaaayimmmm, but those are good reviews !!!
My favorite:
If I could use a rusty boxcutter to carve a new **** in my body that's compatible with this link cable, I would already be doing it. I can just imagine the pure musical goodness that would flow through this cable into the wound and fill me completely -- like white, holy light. Holding this cable in my hands actually makes me feel that much closer to the Lord Jesus Christ. I only make $6.25/hr at Jack In The Box, but I saved up for three months so I could have this cable. It sits in a shrine I constructed next to my futon in Mother's basement.
I only gave it four stars in my review because I can't find music that is worthy enough to flow through this utterly perfect interconnect.

Those guys in Denons marketing department must have an over/under bet going on the sales numbers on this one. What do you think the number is?The world is full of answers, some are right and some are wrong. - Neil Young -
I hate to say this, but everything Denon sells (from their DVD players to their AVR's and now cables) is overpriced. I used to be a big Denon fan, I still believe they built excellent equipment, but overpriced. This does not suprise me.Monitor 7b's front

Seriously, who NEEDS $12,000 speakers cables???
The guy who NEEDS $90,000 speakers. -
All the CAT6 cables I make I test and certify with this device:

I'm sure my Ethernet cables will perform as well as this 500 dollar cable!
And mine only cost me around 80 cents

Yeah, but are your ethernet cables .... UNI-DIRECTIONAL ?
Denon must have gone to a lot of trouble to incorporate nano-diodes in the precious copper wire.Sal Palooza -
This seems a little beneath Denon. Monster we all would expect it from, but seems odd for Denon. To me anyways.

Shoulda bought one at Amazon while you could. None left, but somebody is selling an upgraded model for $999 in the marketplace. Will the madness ever end?

I have to give a "Tip o' the Hat" to Waltmarkers, the seller of that upgraded cable.
Here's that add (note his comments, highlighted in yellow):
"I bought one, and then upgraded it by wraping the whole cable in platnum foil. In fact I used the excess foil to make this nifty listening hat that also improves sound quality. Hat is optional."
God bless audio junkies !

Cables always a hot topic.
Some are worth spending some extra money on, and some are not.
Ethernet cables don't get better, they only work or not. Once they work you can't improve on it. T568a and T568b are the standards. Once you met them you can't make it any better. I can make a 500 ft cable that will work just as good as the Denon cable and it will cost less then 100 bucks.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time.
