Hi all,

In anticipacion to getting my new amp, I went and bought an SPL metter at radio shack, it is the analog version since many people say it is the way to go.
Checking the SPL, I found that it has 2 setting for the weighting; an A setting that measures frequencies in the 500 - 10Khz, the C scale would measure from 32 - 10Khz but uniformaly.

My question is any frequencies between 10Khz - 22khz as most speakers will do, are not as harmfull as the lower Freq.

How to properly use the SPL meter?

I would like for this thread to be very educational for future members to reference ... if possible.

Basically C weight, 70 and slow settings and you are good to go. This article may help.

If you want it to accurately track down to 20Hz here is the mod page....extremely detailed and easy. There is even a mod for the digital meter as well , but here is the analog link .

Most everything I've read says use C weighting. It's less sensitive to rapid changes, thus the meter won't dance all over the place. Creates more of an average.

Your SPL meter might be bouncing a bit when you calibrate the low frequency sub, so try to swag the average carefully when calibrating.
