Using a different Microphone for MCACC

I am unsure if this is the correct forum to post this question.

Has anybody tried using a high end microphone to calibrate the Pioneer MCACC ?

    I havent, but I dont think a high end mic is needed. the mic should only be measuring sound level, not the sound to a detailed degree, just the spl right? unless I am missing something

    I thought the MCACC microphone was already omni-directional? At either case I wouldn't brother changing out mic., doing so may mess with the operation of the EQ in the setup of.

    yes, it has a factory omni-directional mic with it.
    I just want to fun experimenting and observing the results.
    I do expect it will have a different eq result

    Actually you can. the Mcacc is calibrated to the given mic. I suggest writing down you spec's or keep around the factory mic. I don't see any reason to use another Mic.

    Mantis, you are right this what they were telling me. I just intend to experiment.

    I found an audio technica onidirectional condenser boundary mic.
    I just place an on line purchase for this mic, I should have it next week.
    I will run my experiment the weekend I receive the mic.

    Why? sheer bordom? Well if anything have fun with it. I find it to be a waste of time.

    Tomasito, it would be interesting to hear what your results were. Both good and bad results are interesting.

    I'm not expecting the sound to be better than using the calibrated microphone, but if the difference is small I might as well save myself the $38 + shipping + customs charges for the original microphone. :-)
