Sacd...?

******I think I put this in the wrong forum on accident, so i'm posting it here. If I knew how to delete/move the other one, i would!******

Ok...I keep hearing people talking about these SACD's. I realize you have to have a special player to play them...

Here's my questions:

1: Are they worth it?
2: What's a good *cheap* SACD player to get started with?
3: Where's a good place to BUY SACDs?
4: Are they worth it?

    I just realized that an SACD post doesn't really belong in the "Speaker" section...so I thought I would get one in here and maybe get the other one deleted or something.

    I only suggested we use the other thread as it already had some replies but this one works fine as well.

    I was just trying to simplify and help. We can still be friends.

    1: Yes if you like high quality sounding music. clarity and almost perfection.
    2: Look into Sony. They have tons of SACD players on the market and they are who built it.
    3: Tower records had a good selection. It's getting harder to find them locally. Look around online, I don't see best Buy having them anymore. There selection was terrible.
    4: Re read #1.

    Bottom line is this. Sacd came and is still hanging around. It's a small market and no one really cares about it except audiophiles. It was marketed poorly and most people like there Ipod. Hell who doesn't. Higher quality audio is becoming a thing of he past to the general public. But we audiophiles hang on and try too keep it alive. I would personally like nothing more then Sacd to release all my favorite music. I would buy it all. Once you hear SACD go, it's dificult to listen to the same recording any other way. Multichannel is awesome as well as 2 channel. If your system is up to 2 channel, it's amazing.

    If you buy a nice sacd player, you have a nice cd player. Can't lose my man.

    1.YES!!!
    2. I personally like my Oppo but I don't have any experience with anything else.
    3. I buy all mine online. Amazon or Ebay.
    4 YES!!!

    For the most part my SACD's are hands down the best sounding CD's I own. There is a night and day difference in my setup.

    Thanks for the responses guys. I can't really justify spending more than $100 for an SACD player to my wife...DAMNIT!

    All I want is a dedicated SACD player...I already have 3 dvd players...

    I picked up a ps3 last night and it appears this thing even reads sacd ! I have a dual layer cd/sacd I bought a while ago and never really knew what the "sacd" part was. Its the stones "Let it Bleed"

    Maybe I will wake the gf with "Monkey Man" blasting at 11 :)

    I guess since its dual layer I can actually do a side by side comparison.

    Was wondering if any of you have noticed a difference in quality between the different record companies that produce SACDs?

    I ask cuz it seems my Phillips recordings seem to sound top notch, some others not-so-much. Given the small size of my SACD collection, this could be a fluke (I'm aware that other factors - primarily original source - major issues)

    but still... Is there reason to lean to a particular record company when all other factors seem equal?

    That will never be the case. In general, they're all different. However, companies such as Telarc or FIM (First Impression Music) do offer better sound quality because they understand their recordings are sold to audiophiles. Both companies also do direct-to-DSD recordings almost exclusively. Otherwise, each title has to be judged on their own merits.

    Danny - thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know. It could be the dealbreaker when confronted with choosing the same piece by 2 different unknown chamber ensembles...

    Which is why sites such as sa-cd.net (see link above) is so valuable. I'd also recommend Audiophile Audition's website for reviews to SACD.
